About this property

Large Country House With Spacious Gardens And Large Pool

This is a truly lovely house, very Spanish and full of charm and character. We have refurbished it with style and filled it with lovely furniture, some modern and some antique, with Moroccan and Spanish influences.

The house sits in half an acre of cyprus, olive and almond trees stretching across three terraces. On the lower terrace, partly secluded by trees and shrubs, is the 9m (30ft) swimming pool with spacious stone terrace, perfect for sunbathing or relaxing in the shade. There are sun loungers and umbrellas but for most of the day there is shade in one perfect spot, under the old olive tree.

We have created beautiful gardens which lead to the house and down to the pool, from the formal entrance garden to the stone path with pretty fountain, you will be surrounded by flowers and shrubs. The trees are mature and give much needed shade, but the oleanders, lilies and lantana lift everything with brilliant colours.

The large, bright living room leads straight onto the pool terrace through the french windows and is open plan so the kitchen is at the far end, originally part of the old house but now connected. There's a comfortable 4-seater sofa, with matching chaise-long and armchair - so you can relax and watch the kiddies playing by the pool. There's air-con in the living room/kitchen which also reaches through to one of the bedrooms, Suite Rojo. Next to the kitchen there's a large dining table (seats 8) The kitchen is well equipped for a large group with room to cook in comfort while others relax close by in the living area. A perfect space to watch the setting sun through the french windows and across the pool to the mountains.

POOL: the 9m (30 ft) pool is very private and surrounded by a large terrace with green shrubs and trees. The whole pool area is south facing and gets loads of sun, it's always a big hit with guests who often hurry back from trips to relax here until dusk. There are sun loungers, plus table and umbrella, with a shady area under the generous olive tree.

FOUR BEDROOMS: There are two large L-shaped bedroom suites, both with a curtained area for privacy, both with ensuite bathrooms. Bedroom Suite 1 leads off the living room, it is bright and airy and sleeps a couple and two kiddies. Bedroom Suite 2 features french windows leading into the private back garden, this is at the back of the house and has two patios for relaxing in the sun or shade. Both bedroom suites have room for a couple and one or two children, there's also a cot for baby (optional). Bedroom 3 is a double, it's next to the house bathroom. Bedroom 4 overlooks the pool with large curtained windows for privacy - here there's a single bed with an option for another single. The house sleeps 10 comfortably, or even 12 with some sharing, eg. 3 or 4 young children sharing with Mum and Dad or grandparents in one of the large L-shaped suites. The five single beds (option for an extra bed) have good mattresses and the double and two queen-size beds are in good shape.
All the rooms in the house have fans, with two in the large bedroom suites.
NOTE: in June and September we offer a slightly smaller version of the house, with just the two large suites, sleeping 8 on a sharing basis. With suites have ensuite bathrooms and are L-shaped making sharing easy and comfortable.

BATHROOMS (3) We have good plumbing with extractor fans or windows in the bathrooms. All the bathrooms have been renovated in the last few years and are modern and easy to keep clean. We make sure everything is spotless for your arrival and can provide cleaning services if required during your stay.

GARDENS: There are several garden areas starting with the entrance gravel garden with paths and fountain, the pool is surrounded by gardens and finally there's a large very private back garden accessed from the kitchen and also via the french windows in bedroom suite 2. For a large group this means people can relax in different spaces and have some privacy or quiet time away from the kiddies.

DISCOUNT: The house is suitable for two families or a large group of close friends, we can at a stretch sleep 12, but if you are a family or group of six or less, make this clear and we will offer you a 10% reduction.
NOTE: In June and September, for a discounted price, we close up part of the house, this leaves the two large bedroom suites available with ensuite bathrooms, sleeping 7 or 8 comfortably. Suitable for two couples with children.

Amazing
We have just returned from a fabulous stay at Cortijo Caliz. As a family we love staying in rural Spain and have stayed in many regions and many villas but this has to be the best! The villa itself is spacious, with a bright living area, a well equipped kitchen and huge bedrooms. There were 5 of us most of the time with an additional 2 guests for a couple of nights. We could easily have had more of us without impacting on space. Three bathrooms mean it’s perfect for multiple families staying together to feel like they have some privacy. Efficient air condition kept us cool even in the height of Summer! Wifi brilliant at house/pool/garden The pool was wonderful with plenty of space in the shade or to sit and sunbathe. Access to the property was probably the easiest we have every experienced with only the very last part of the journey down a small windy track, we had a large hire car but had no problems with access. A very straightforward journey from Malaga airport. Orgiva was beautiful with some great option of restaurants and a weekly market full of fresh fruit and veg very cheap! The town has a couple of good sized supermarkets also. We explored some of the surrounding villages which were easy to find and nice for a day out. Tina and Alan were excellent hosts, on hand to respond to any requests both beforehand and whilst we were there. For us it was a big bonus having them nearby with no impact on privacy whatsoever. Looking forward to returning!

Delightful villa
A spacious and well equipped villa, with lots of outside space and a great pool with great views across the mountains. Isolated and quiet location surrounded by olive and orange trees, but a short drive (car is pretty essential) to the non-touristy town of Orgiva with lots of authentic bars, cafe and restaurants. Good location for walking, cycling and exploring the Sierra Nevada, and not too far from the coast if you fancy a swim.

Great Space, Amazing Hosts
The setup of this space was perfect for us. This could work for a family with two kids, another family with one kid, and then another couple. If you are looking for a place where you can just hang out and relax and spend time with the people you care about this is it. The owner is on site. The outside space is nice. Driving the small narrow roads is challenging but once you get to the house there is plenty of space to park. Not much in the town itself, but not too far from some cool places.

Inolvidables vacaciones

We came to Spain in March 2008, having planned for a year to retire here. Tina, a graphic designer, worked in advertising/design, and Alan was a private hire driver. Both animal lovers, we arrived with 2 cats but the 'family' has grown. We love the life here and the days are full. There's a big expat community here and we have made many friends. We want to live creative lives and have run courses here with plans to do more. The garden is an ongoing project and every year sees more planting and new ideas being fulfilled. We are both avid readers and the holiday house is filled with books. We are living the perfect life in many ways even though the Alpujarra continues to be full of challenges.

Why they chose this property

We always knew that when we retired we would come to live in Spain but we were never sure where. Orgiva and the Alpujarra Valley have proved the perfect spot for us, very peaceful and full of character, so unlike the coastal resorts, and a truly Spanish place. All sorts of interesting people have settled here, for good reason - it's a place of great beauty, full of cultural heritage and fantastic landscapes.

What makes this property unique

We live on site which I believe is supportive to our guests, but we are careful to respect their privacy. We are here if needed and hope to be invisible if not!
