About this property

House at only 150m (165 yards) from the beach

The villa is situated at a few minutes drive from the historic village of Lindos with its beautiful whitewashed, typical houses and narrow streets.

But above all the Acropolis which is surrounded by a Hellenistic wall contemporary with the Propylaea and the stairway leading to the entrance to the site, the Castle of the Knights of St John, built some time before 1317 on the foundations of older Byzantine fortifications and the Greek Orthodox Church of St John, dating from the 13th or 14th century and built on the ruins of a previous church, which may have been built as early as the 6th century.

Some scenes of the well-known film, The Guns of Navarone, were filmed here.

For visitors less interested in history, you’ll find original jewellery or handmade sandals and other handcrafts. You can also relax in one of it's famous roof top restaurants or cafes.

There is a range of beaches for any type of tourist near Lindos – the main beach is sandy with plenty of sun-beds and umbrellas that are arranged in front of the sea.

Opposite the main beach, the Pallas beach is also sandy and there are lot of tavernas where you can enjoy refreshing drinks during a hot day.

On the other side of Lindos village you will find St Paul's Bay which is great for snorkelling in its crystal water and also known for the many weddings of non-Greeks taking place there.

As well as being located within minutes of Lindos, the villa overlooks the beautiful Vlycha beach which is at only 150 m. The beach has great water-sports facilities. Perfect for swimming, the water at Vlycha beach is very clear and clean.

There you can find a small supermarket with all the basics and daily fresh bread and the really nice Greek donuts! There’s also a taverna and an excellent restaurant which is part of the Lindos Jewel Hotel. A bigger supermarket is located not far from the villa, just off the main road, and offers a very good selection of everything that you will need, including fresh bread, vegetables and meat. It is called Flevaris Supermarket.

The villa enjoys the most incredible sea views from its elevated position overlooking Vlycha Bay and these are probably most enjoyed in the evening after a day on the beach, or site-seeing, when you can enjoy a drink on the terrace and breathe in the amazing scenery.

If you would like to experience some very traditional Greek villages, you should also visit Pilona or Lardos that are only several kilometeres away from here. You can visit beautiful churches, medieval fortresses.

Every day you will be able to find something new to visit and see.

Another lovely day out is to the famous Butterfly Valley. This is particularly recommended in August when the trees are completely covered with butterflies and you'll be able to relax in the shadow of the forest.

Prassonisi is especially popular among kite-surfers and windsurfers all over the world. But it is also the place where the Mediterranean and Aegean seas meet. One should really see it with his own eyes!

The villa is ideally located for the local attractions and those available throughout the island. His position also offers the most magical of settings.

A car is highly recommended to have the possibility to visit the main attractions of the island.

Vlycha lovely but Villa needs some love
This Villa has seen better times- it was clean, the pool is a good size, the beds were reasonably comfortable and the air conditioning worked well There are some issues that need addressing- in particular there are broken filter covers on the bottom of the pool- sharp edges on which two of us caught our toes (wouldn’t have been very good if it was a child) - in addition the blue paint on the pool wall comes off on your feet- there are cracked loose tiles around the pool edge too. There was only one parasol (but two bases) between the three of us The kitchen provided only two cereal bowls/ compartments for milk and juice in the fridge door are missing so these had to be put in the main part taking up a lot of space / the oven was dirty so we didn’t use it The shower in the downstairs bathroom has a leak resulting in a wet floor - All these things could be repaired relatively easily and would make a big difference to the comfort of guests

Tolles Haus, tolle Lage, alles was man sich wünscht!

Komisch ...

About the host

Both my husband's grandparents are born on the island but moved later on to Egypt. Yannis, born in Cairo, due to the political situation in Egypt at that time (Nasser regime), moved to Athens at the age of 12. In 1980 he came to Brussels, where we met. Lucky me ! I myself am Belgian, originary from the Northern part of the country (Flanders) but mostly lived in Brussels and since 2004 we moved to the Southern part (Walloon), near Waterloo. We have visited Rhodes frequently, especially when our 5 children were young. As most of the children they adored swimming and playing in the so beautiful Greek waters. Having visited Lindos several times, we decided to purchase a house there, having in mind to move in permanently in the future.

Why they chose this property

At the house the main attraction is the private swimming pool and the sea, at only 150 m (165 yards) distance from the beach where you can practice some water sports.

At Lindos beach in the end of a deep gulf, with clear waters, are possibilities of every kind of sea sport.

Still at Lindos, the other point of interest is the hill itself, on top of whom there is a crusaders' castle (dating from the 15th century A.C.), which has been built on top of an ancient Greek temple dedicated to Athena).
The view from the top is breathtaking, (worldwide famous, you can find out in Internet sights: Google Images, Lindos, Rhodes, Greece) especially from the side overlooking the open sea, over steep hard rocky cliffs colored in yellow and pink. When the sun rises and up to 10:30 am, the colors of the rocks are very intense, due to the fact that the sun illuminates them (which is not the case from midday on since they fall under the shadow).

We always visit Lindos in the early morning to avoid being disturbed by the other visitors and to avoid heat.

Although there is a protective wall, since small children can be unpredictable, you should be nearby.

What makes this property unique

There is no road in between the house and the beach (at about 150m or 165 yards only), so children can move freely without the risk of being hirt by a car or motorcycle.
