Quiet Bungalow in Downtown Salt Lake City

Bedrooms 2
Space 88 m²
Property type bungalow
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

This is a quaint little cottage in a convenient location in downtown Salt Lake City. The cottage was built in 1916 and retains the charm that came with structures from that era, including squeaky floors, wooden doors and windows, a front porch with screen door, and a brick fireplace with mantel. However, modern conveniences are also included, such as, central air conditioning, free wifi, granite countertops, roku TV, and insulation to avoid a drafty feel in the winter.

The two small bedrooms have a king size bed in one room and a queen in the other. A 5th person can sleep on a sleeper sofa that has a memory foam mattress - definitely not your typical sleeper sofa. Bedding and towels are provided. Front-loaded washer/dryer are available for your use.

The location of the property might be its biggest appeal. With the opening of City Creek Center in 2012 and other major property renovations, Salt Lake's downtown is being revitalized and a great place to stay and visit. This bungalow provides you with easy access to everything that downtown has to offer while keeping things quiet and peaceful at night. Our safe deadend street makes all the traffic noise, sirens, and city commotion go away while you sleep at night, but lets you walk to the places you want to go during the day.

A TRAX system stop is only 2 blocks away from the bungalow making a car optional. TRAX provides access to everything within the Salt Lake valley, including the airport, University of Utah, Salt Palace Convention Center, and City Creek Mall. TRAX is FREE for downtown transportation. It will even take you as far as Ogden to the north and Provo to the south. There is also a bus stop very close that will take you to the ski slopes.

Here are some attractions that are close to the bungalow:

* Temple square - 1.5 miles

* City Creek Mall - 1 mile

* Liberty Park - 0.5 mile

* Vivent Arena (Utah Jazz) - 1.9 miles

* Hogle Zoo - 3.7 miles

* Salt Lake International Airport - 6.8 miles

* Park City ski resorts - 23 miles

* Alta and Snowbird ski resorts - 25 miles

Of course, you have restaurants, shopping, museums, and everything else that downtown Salt Lake and the surrounding areas have to offer.

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed here for several days in February. The floor plan and furnishings worked well for both two and four adults. We were able to cook a few meals as well as walk to numerous restaurants. There are three grocery stores within easy walking distance. The house is cute, clean, and charming. We went to a couple of shows at The State Room while there and felt safe walking in the neighborhood after the shows. Like any bigger city, you need to be aware of your surroundings. If you have concerns, we found Uber to be easy and quick in the area--we used it from and to the airport. Do be aware that as an older home, the bathroom is quite small. So, if you are a couple that likes to get ready at the same time or just like the spa-like bathrooms you get in hotels, you will be disappointed with this bathroom.

3.5 Stars - met our needs but....

  • 3 of 5

This is a tough one - I have stayed at so many vacation rentals so I have basic standards that need to be met and for the most part this one did. The house was clean and had super comfortable beds, including the hide a bed, which is really important to me. Sectional sofa was also good for watching TV. Laundry is another huge plus when staying for more than just a few days. It had all the proper working appliances (microwave was clean inside - which isn't always the case) and working heat and plumbing (also not always the case - LOL). They accepted our dog, which was a wonderful thing - it is not easy to find a place that takes dogs. It had a very central location (but still felt safe) which made walking to groceries, trax, and trolley square another big bonus! Communication fine with owner.

However, I had a few issues that were not what I had hoped for. I don't like spending my entire vacation doing dishes. The dishes/glasses/silverware/pans/kitchen tools were really not clean - so I had to wash everything that we used before we used it. I assume the dishwasher there is not that great, so I hand washed everything every meal. There was food dried onto the crock pot (which was great to have - but kinda gross when I pulled it out). Had to go buy a mixer (no blender or mixer there). Bedding was fine and attractive, although fitted sheet for sofa bed doesn't fit. And when I stripped the sheets off at the end of our stay there were large wads of dark hair stuck to the mattress pad which was also an "ewww" moment. The heat was great, but our main bedroom got super warm in order for us to have the back bedroom and the living room warm enough for the kids. Not gonna lie - the bathroom is tight- we ended up putting toilet paper stand in the tub when we were not showering - as there is just no room for it. The wi-fi was pretty slow as netflix was constantly having to buffer while watching shows. The backyard could easily be fenced in, but it's not (I knew that from other reviews) and I would strongly recommend that it be done to make it more dog friendly, along with some poop pickup bags. Parking - we used the spot to the left of the house but it is really tight as others have mentioned and with the ice covered street it made for an interesting time backing in and out - we had a few close calls sliding into the neighbors trash can! Street seriously needs to be repaved. This house was kept up but many on the street are not. Overall grade B-

Loved the master bedroom bed.

  • 5 of 5

A nice place to stay. The bed in the master bedroom was a memory foam delight. House was comfortable. The only downside was the parking. Would stay there again.
