About John and Alcida Landry

My husband and I are retired (nursing educator and accountant) and decided to come home after living away and raising our family.

We enjoy gardening, cooking, informal evenings with friends, food ,wine and good conversations.

We spend part of the year in Cheticamp and part of the year with our children and grandchildren in Ontario. We love to travel and experience different cultures.

John and Alcida Landry purchased this house in 2013

Why John and Alcida Landry chose Chéticamp

When we retired, we hauled and renewed an old home onto this property that I inherited from my family. Although I lived away for all of my adult life, my heart and my spirit always belonged here so the decision as to where we would settle was an easy one for us.

We have hosted many friends and strangers (who quickly became friends) who have encouraged us to share our little piece of paradise with others. Our accommodations are exactly what we look for when we travel so we have opened our apartment as a rental for you to enjoy the peace and wellbeing we live everyday.

What makes this house unique

We live next door and are available 24/7 .

We want to provide you with everything you need to make your visit as enjoyable and as memorable as possible while ensuring you have as much privacy as you wish.

Do you need a guide? We will do our best to find one. Do you want an intimate wedding or celebration? 🎂💞💐We can help with that too! Are you looking for privacy? No problem 😉

Relax and enjoy the views, cuddle up to the fireplace, listen to the ocean lulling you to sleep. Hike, run, bike or swim.

Come and spend some time "À la Côte", on the beach where the mountains meet the sea, you will leave revitalized after experiencing what we hope will be a great vacation.

What a beautiful place, in a beautiful location. We enjoyed every minute of our stay here.

  • 5 of 5

The perfect place, in a great location from which to experience the Western Cape Breton Island and begin your time on the Cabot Trail and the National Park. John Landry is a great host, who pulls out all the stops to make your visit wonderfully memorable. We could not have asked for anything more.

John is a wonderful host, beautiful property, fabulous vistas

  • 5 of 5

John was a gracious host. My daughters had fun with horseshoes and croquet. The apartment is so clean we thought it was newly finished. We enjoyed walking the ocean shoreline, walking along the pond, and his beautiful property. He made our family feel welcomed. Did I mention short drive into town or to Cape Breton Highlands National Park; that is 5-7 minutes max. A great Bakery - Aucoin A Bakery Ltd, and Acadian atmosphere. Peaceful and a lovely view out every window.

Add Cape Breton to your bucket list!

  • 5 of 5

Everything about this property exceeded our expectations. From the location to the amenities to the views to the hospitality, you can not find a more perfect "home away from home". The 16 acre ocean front property located down a long, narrow, winding drive feels remote and secluded, yet is only 5 minutes from town. The moment we stepped out of the car we were mesmerized by the views and captivated by the peaceful serenity. The apartment above the garage had all the amenities of a home. Many rentals just have a few basic items but the owners, John and Alcida, have equipped this place to feel like home. From flashlights to wine glasses to full-size washer and dryer, this place had it all! The fresh ground coffee, jam, loaf of bread, popcorn and chocolates were especially nice treats after a long day traveling. And the views! The windows are large and face in all the right directions to see the sunset over the sea and the sunrise over the mountains. Spectacular views don't begin to describe the beauty that surrounds this property. And finally, the hospitality. John and Alcida went above and beyond to make us feel like family visiting from out of town. They pulled out all the stops when they invited us to a home cooked lobster supper out on the patio of their adjoining home. John is an excellent teacher and showed us all the tricks to cracking open the perfectly prepared lobster. Alcida's delicious side dishes and amazing strawberries were the perfect complement to her kind and generous spirit. Seriously, "Aunt" Alcida and "Uncle" John were the perfect hosts with the most perfectly located home away from home. Thank you both for making this bucket list trip one to remember and cherish forever.

We decided to get married in beautiful Cheticamp and we couldn't have been happier that we chose this vacation rental as our destination! The property is perfectly manicured with the most incredible views (from every window), and the apartment is absolutely stunning. The owners went above and beyond what we could have expected. They made sure we had everything we needed and more. We couldn't have chose a better place to getting married !! We will definitely be back and we hope others can experience the beauty this rental offers as well !

A Little Bit of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Our four night stay in the Landry's apartment was wonderful! The location was perfect in terms of accessing the Cabot Trail and enjoying the Cheticamp area, but mostly because of the stunning views of the coast from the apartment and the surrounding land. The memories formed by those views continue to call me back to that glorious area. The accommodations themselves were perfect, a carefully planned and laid out apartment, a kitchen with the best supplied cooking items I have ever stayed in, a huge deck with views to spend time on and a fireplace to warm us in chilly evenings. All that being said, what was a huge bonus was the warmth, hospitality and helpfulness of both Alcida and John, which was offered without being overly solicitous. For starters, after telling Alcida that part of my interest in coming to Cape Breton was to do some exploration of family roots, she suggested meeting with two amazing genealogists in Cheticamp. This proved ever so helpful. Given the time of the year we were there, we were able to enjoy both lobster and snow crab. John secured these for us and invited us to participate in the cleaning of the crab. He also cooked them perfectly for us. How could it be any better?? I highly recommend their place both because of the property and because of the gracious hospitality given.

Owner's Response: Thank you Mary for the great review. We try to make every visit here a bit special so it is our pleasure to do the little extra whenever we can. It was really enjoyable for us to be able to share in the search for your roots and to see you both explore and appreciate some of what Cape Breton has to offer. We look forward to your next visit. Have a great summer.

Cheticamp is a warm and welcoming Acadian village at the base of the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Fishing and tourism are the main industries in this culturally rich bilingual community that maintains a strong link with its french ancestory. Add Irish, English , Native and Scottish blood in there and we have a colorful heritage to say the least.

Depending on the season, dance, music, storytelling, cultural activities and festivals are celebrated. Guided sunset tours and interactive presentations can be enjoyed in the National Park.

Enjoy lobster or crab fresh from the dock or go whale watching. Golf, fish for salmon in the Margaree or Cheticamp rivers, go deepsea fishing or hire a guide to take you hunting deer or moose.

If variety is your cup of tea and you don't need the hustle and bustle of city life.....come and enjoy Cape Breton. We will welcome you with open arms!
