Located on East 62nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue, the Parlor Studio sits on the Parlor level of a 5-story 19th century Upper East Side Townhouse.

One flight above our entry foyer, guests find the romantic studio apartment referred to as the Parlor Studio. The Parlor overlooks a row of East 62nd Street townhouses as elegant as 1871 House itself. Boasting a 12' ceiling, hardwood flooring, three over-sized double pane windows with bamboo shades and lace panels facing tree-lined East 62nd Street, and a classic fireplace mantle, the Parlor, in all its exquisite pre-war detail, extends to nearly 327 square feet (30 m²). The apartment is accessed via our central staircase. There is no elevator. Please note Fireplace may not be used/ornamental only.

The furniture, too, consists of carefully curated, individual pieces: an antique 19th century iron bed, resized to queen, an 18th century armoire from France's Provence region, a stylish slip-covered sofa, and an oriental wool rug. The list goes on: you can keep your clothes in a Victorian-era chest of drawers or leave your purse on a circa 1870 American Empire card table. The walls are adorned with reproductions of the prints of Toulouse-Lautrec and others, with a gilded mirror above the fireplace.

The bedroom is furnished with 1 Queen Bed (sleeps maximum 2). Also included are a flat-screen TV, complimentary Wi Fi Internet & air conditioning. Extras included such as hair dryer, iron and ironing board. Clean linens, towels and pillows provided. Cotton bedding, down pillows and blankets. The kitchen is stocked with a refrigerator, microwave oven, toaster oven, french press, drip coffee maker, and electric water kettle, cups, utensils & plates. The compact galley kitchen is small, but quite serviceable. We’ve equipped it with everything our guests need to make basic meals and snacks. The private en suite bathroom consists of a pedestal sink & tub/shower & toilet.

The house is located in the much sought after LENOX HILL neighborhood of the Historic Upper East side section of Manhattan and a 5 minute walk (0.2 mi) to CENTRAL PARK and some of New York's finest shopping districts. The House's location, a quiet residential enclave for some of New York's most prestigious addresses, enjoys the best of both worlds – serene privacy and un-matched convenience. The neighborhood abounds with tasteful, exclusive boutiques and charming, international restaurants. Yet, the house is only three blocks from bustling Midtown and some of the City's fabulous and world renown Museums & galleries including the Frick, The Metropolitan and MoMa.

The beautiful brownstone building is conveniently located within walking distance to the Met, Carnegie Hall, the Frick Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, Central Park Zoo & Rockefeller Center. Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts is a quick 12-minute Uber ride just across the Park or to TIMES SQUARE by Taxi or subway. We are in a perfect location for NYC Marathon Runners - as we are very close to the finish line!

The East River Esplanade is approximately a 25 minute walk.

Shopping is plentiful including Bloomingdales, Barney's, Bendel's and Bergdorf-Goodman. We are one avenue away from Madison Avenue's most select and high end boutiques. Urban conveniences make living here a breeze, and there are basic living facilities and shops within walking distance, including Whole Foods Market, Duane Reade Pharmacy, a shoe repair, dry cleaners, nail salons, hair salons, Starbucks and much more.

Public transportation around NYC is made easy from this location. Consider using the subway station at 60th Street / Lexington Avenue, which serves the 4, 5, 6, N, Q, R trains and F train on 63rd Street (all servicing up and downtown) (express and local). Bus located around the corner. The subway will take you to the Southern tip of the city (Freedom Towers - 9/11 Memorial) within 20 minutes.

The house is a six minute walk to Central Park and Fifth Avenue, 12 minutes to Times Square by Taxi and 11-14 minutes by subway; Grand Central Station is one subway stop away (take the 4 or 5 one stop from 59th street to Grand Central Station); walking distance to Fifth Avenue and Midtown East with its ubiquitous Corporate Offices as well as midtown Manhattan's exclusive Decoration & Design building (D&D building) and Manhattan Art and Antiques Center. Architects, Designers and Collectors from around the world travel to this area for its concentration of design and home furnishings showrooms and galleries.

The country's best hospitals and medical facilities including Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell Medical College, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, New York-Presbyterian hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery and Mount Sinai Hospital are ideally located minutes away from the house.

MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT = 10 YEARS: 1871 House is a converted 146 year old Brownstone. In that it is an historic building constructed in the year 1871 there is no elevator and all suites are accessed by our central open staircase. Regretfully, this feature (the house's unenclosed staircase) makes it unsafe for young children under 10 years of age to stay in the house.

There's a daily room tax of $5.50 which will be manually edited for all reservations (vrbo technology does not have an way to include a daily fee as part of the tax). Stays under 180 days subject to 8.875% New York State & City sales plus 5.875% and $2/night/room hotel occupancy tax plus $1.50/night (total 14.75% plus $5.50 per night). WiFi is included.
