A Home Away From Home in the Heart of Bustling Manhattan 🗽 Parlor Studio 🗽

Our turn-of-the-century brownstone, known as 1871 House, consists of seven generously sized apartment-style suites housed in a classic 19th-century brownstone on an inviting, tree-lined residential street walking distance to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MOMA, The Frick and The Met Breuer Museum. We’re located on 62nd Street between Park Avenue and Lexington Avenue in the heart of the most famous shopping strip of the Upper East Side of Manhattan and a five minute walk to Central Park. The townhouse is located within the Lenox Hill neighborhood of the Historic Upper East Side. We are currently in our 19th year in business!

Located one flight above our entry foyer, guests find the romantic studio apartment known as the Front Parlor. The Parlor overlooks a row of East 62nd Street townhouses as elegant as 1871 House itself. Boasting a 12' ceiling, hardwood flooring, three over-sized lace-clad windows facing tree-lined East 62nd Street, and a classic fireplace mantle, the Parlor, in all its exquisite pre-war detail, extends to nearly 327 square feet (30 m²). Maximum 2 occupants.

*Bedroom with standard queen-size bed and ornamental fireplace; 3 oversize double pane windows with bamboo shades and lace panels; hardwood floors and soaring 14-ft ceilings with decorative plaster detail; crown moldings frame the entire room; 19" flat-screen TV

*Kitchenette w/microwave oven, fridge, drip coffeemaker & French press, toaster oven, electric kettle. The kitchenette is small, but quite serviceable. We’ve equipped it with everything our guests need to make basic meals and snacks.

*En suite bathroom with tub/shower combination, pedestal sink & toilet

*MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT = 10 YEARS due to open stairwell

*Prior to making your decision, consider there is NO elevator at the 1871 House. All rooms are accessed via our central staircase.

The furniture, too, consists of carefully curated, individual pieces: an antique 19th century iron bed, resized to queen, an 18th century armoire from France's Provence region, a stylish slip-covered sofa, and an oriental wool rug. The list goes on: you can keep your clothes in a Victorian-era chest of drawers or leave your purse on a circa 1870 American Empire card table. The walls are adorned with reproductions of the prints of Toulouse-Lautrec and others, with a gilded mirror above the fireplace (ornamental only).

The Parlor's en-suite bathroom is simple and clutterless. A pedestal sink accompanies a full size en-suite bathtub with shower.

The butlers pantry is fully equipped with open shelving, a refrigerator/freezer, microwave and toaster oven, sink, electric coffeemaker and kettle. Dishes are provided. Adjacent to the kitchenette is a round marble bistro table and chair set.

• All suites are accessed via our central staircase. The house is not serviced by an elevator.

• Central Park: We are a six minute walk to Central Park (2 block walk)

• Times Square: We are 12 minutes to Times Square by Taxi and 11-14 minutes by subway

• Our charming brownstone offset on a side residential townhouse block within Manhattan’s fashionable Upper East Side and convenient to shopping and museums. The pretty shuttered townhouse is in a nicely quiet location two blocks from Central Park. The quiet street makes you forget you’re in the heart of the city.

• Elegantly situated on Manhattan’s fashionable Upper East Side, the House's location enjoys the best of both worlds – serene privacy and un-matched convenience. The house's location is a quiet residential enclave for some of New York’s most prestigious addresses. The neighborhood abounds with tasteful, exclusive boutiques and charming, international restaurants. Yet, the house is only three blocks from bustling Midtown and some of the City's fabulous and world renown Museums & galleries including the Frick, The Metropolitan and MoMa. Shopping is plentiful including the 4 Bs: Bloomingdales, Barney's, Bendel's and Bergdorf-Goodman.

• The house is walking distance to Fifth Avenue and Midtown East with its ubiquitous Corporate Offices as well as midtown Manhattan's exclusive Decoration & Design building (D&D building) and Manhattan Art and Antiques Center. Architects, Designers and Collectors from around the world travel to this area for its concentration of design and home furnishings showrooms and galleries.

• Ideal location minutes away from some of the country's best hospitals and medical facilities including Memorial Sloan Kettering, Weill Cornell Medical College, Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital, New York-Presbyterian hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, the Hospital for Special Surgery and Mount Sinai Hospital.

• Excellent access to transportation with southbound buses on Lexington Avenue (62nd Street) and northbound buses on Madison and Third Avenue (63rd Street). No buses are allowed on Park Avenue. The area has two cross-town bus lines and subway stations are two blocks south at 60th Street on Lexington Avenue (Q,N,R,4,5,6) or one block north at 63rd Street (F train) on Lexington Avenue. Grand Central Station is one subway stop away (take the 4 or 5 one stop from 59th street to Grand Central Station).

• MINIMUM AGE REQUIREMENT = 10 YEARS: 1871 House is a converted 146 year old Brownstone. In that it is an historic building constructed in the year 1871 there is no elevator and all suites are accessed by our central open staircase. Regretfully, this feature (the house's unenclosed staircase) makes it unsafe for young children under 10 years of age to stay in the house.

• EXTENDED STAY REQUESTS (MINIMUM ONE MONTH) - please email us with your estimated budget. We can customize monthly rates. Maximum number of guests for monthly stays is limited to maximum 3 occupants.

* Deposits: A deposit of 25% of the stay is required to confirm a reservation. We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover Card. The full balance is due and payable upon check in. Approximately 30 days prior to the reserved arrival date an authorization hold/card authorization is placed for the 75% balance. If your stay falls within 30 days, a hold for 100% of your total will be put on hold.
