About the property

Swim, snorkel, dive, explore--or simply relax at 1 bedroom 2 bathroom townhouse.

Our newly expanded and upgraded home in the beautiful west of Curaçao is ideal for those who define vacation as setting their own pace, doing what they want, when they want – and not a thing more!

Perched just 40' from the edge of the plateau, we enjoy our small, gated resort's most expansive oceanfront view – 220 degrees of unobstructed Caribbean waters teeming with fish, turtles and dolphins. The lanai is ideal for breakfasts and watching the iguana wake up on the rock wall, while the upstairs balcony opens the view even more. We eat dinner there most nights, nursing our wine as the sky goes from screaming orange and pink to a breathless darkness peppered with silver stars.

We live here a few months a year, so everything from furniture and mattress, widescreen TV and huge fridge, to cutlery and cushions, has been chosen for "home away from home" comfort. Pluses include a 42" flat-screen with Direct TV, DVD, dedicated wireless internet, new microwave, hot water in kitchen and showers, air conditioners & ceiling fans upstairs and down, and large wood balcony dining table. Linens, bath and pool towels are also provided. New wall-to-wall sliding glass doors, along with screened & louvered kitchen entry and side windows take full advantage of the constant trade winds that cool the West without compromising security.

Stairs cut into the coral provide direct access to the sea. A few strokes into the ever-warm water take snorkelers over or divers into a reef that entices adventurers from around the world. It's only a minute's stroll to the resort's salt-water pool, nestled among lush tropical plants – enough to be close, but far enough for peaceful privacy.

Imagine green and yellow parakeets streaking across the sky, the scent of fresh wahoo crisping on the grill and the tang of lionfish ceviche. Then at dusk with drink in hand, you catch the elusive, green flash at sunset. You'll come to say -- "It's just another day in Paradise."

It's all yours at Treasure by the Sea, Marazul Dive Resort 10B. Thanks for checking us out.

Guest Access

Everything at our townhome and in our community of owners and guests from around the world is designed to make your vacation perfect -- from our new, 2nd floor writer's nook where you can email friends descriptions of the fabulous view out your window...the sparkling pool with shady gazebo and sun chairs...the rustling palms and brilliant flowers dotting the grounds.

Interaction with Guests

To ensure you have a wonderful time and take advantage of all our home and the island have to offer, we'll provide a Welcome Booklet in advance with directions, suggestions, etc. Of course, we're available by email or phone most any time to answer your questions. We are also very lucky to have Rene, an exceptionally knowledgeable and extremely personable manager, on site who's always willing to help.

The Neighborhood

By design, 10B is away from the crowds, but we're not isolated. Five of the island's top 5 of 38 beaches are just minutes from our door (exquisite Playa Knip, one of our very favorites, is a beautiful 5-minute drive), as are restaurants that have been rated #1, #2 and #3 – unmatched Sol Food canted out over the hillside across the bay; Landhuis Misje, an epicurean wonder; and elegant but earthy Trio Pinotti. In addition to our world-famous 'Alice in Wonderland' reef, the West is home to two National Parks, including wild, wave-crashing Shete Boka and jungle-like Mt. Christoffel, where a roller-coaster drive takes you to landuis ruins, glorious views, fascinating flora and elusive fauna, and the trailhead leading to the summit of Curaçao's highest peak.

Getting Around

The entire island of Curaçao has so much to offer, you'll want to rent a car to get out and explore (we'll recommend the local agency we use 100% of the time -- it's the best). The West is just the beginning. Farther afield, there's the capital city of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a stunning array of brightly painted Old World-style buildings, the Queen Emma pontoon pedestrian bridge (affectionately known as the Old Lady) spanning St. Anna Bay and linking both sides of the town -- museums, restaurants, and the oldest synagogue in the New World. And don't miss the flamingos, ostriches, wind-surfing, casinos, incredible shopping, history and more -- because there truly is something for everyone!

Note: "The Navigator's Treasure" by D.C. Monahan is available at select locations on the island. You can also purchase the Kindle version on Amazon, and the paperback edition direct from Nubble Mt. Press.

About David and Cheryl Monahan

We're a couple of writers (with two grown sons) whose passion for traveling began in college when we backpacked around Europe for months. After living in Boston, Philadelphia and Los Angeles, we returned to one of the most beautiful places anywhere, our hometown of Twin Mountain, New Hampshire. Then we discovered the sunny Caribbean island of Curaçao, which has become our second home. We're avid hikers, bicyclists, scuba divers, skiers, and recently walked the Camino de Santiago. In addition to writing, we've run large college-recruiting showcases for lacrosse and field hockey players. We often work 'on the road' so we can continue to see new places and return to old favorites. In addition to English, we speak a bit of French, German and muy poco Spanish.

Why David and Cheryl Monahan chose Sabana Westpunt

Marazaul 10B is the polar -- or should we say "tropical" -- opposite of our home at the foot of New Hampshire's White Mountains and Mt. Washington, the Northeast's highest peak. Much as we love to ski, we also love diving into Curaçao's unbelievably turquoise, 82-84° waters in the middle of winter.

Guestbook comments from the owner

David & Cheryl

We had a fantastic time in Curacao and at Treasure by the sea!

My girlfriend's sister's family stayed across the street at (a neighboring property) and there is just no comparison. The view is intoxicatingly beautiful at Marazul. The villa was great even without the view. Dropped your names to Sunshine at SOL food. She was preternaturally nice. Hit lots of beaches for sun and snorkeling. Swam with the turtles a couple times. We took the day trip to Klein Curacao. We purchased some art from Nina Sanchez's gallery. A great week indeed! We hope to be back another year but will definitely recommend your villa. Thanks again

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in 10B at Marazul. The owners provided lots of great information to help us settle in. The townhouse was exactly as advertised, no surprises! We enjoyed several beaches, and snorkelled almost every day. Made some new friends and loved Curaçao. All the residents get together at sunset to cheer the green flash over a glass of their favorite beverage. Turtles were great at the fishing dock and we saw dolphins feeding and playing our last night. We highly recommend this listing and hope to be back again next year. Thanks for sharing your piece of paradise with us. Deb & Reid

Owner's Response: It's always a pleasure when our guests have such a great stay they want to come back again. As Deb and Reid noted, a big part of 10B's charm, aside from our incredible location right on the Caribbean Sea, are the people who come together there, Marazul owners and guests alike. And what a send-off! Dolphins playing right out front -- we couldn't have scripted a more magical last night for you! It goes without saying that you were the best of guests. We look forward to having you back!

Paradise Found at Marazul 10B

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a 12 night stay at Marazul 10B - Treasure by the sea. This was our first trip to Curacao and we absolutely loved it.

Marazul Dive Resort was perfect. It was everything we hoped it would be.

Quiet and relaxed, well maintained grounds and great ocean access to the beautiful house reef with healthy corals and tons of colorful fish.

The townhouse was exactly as described. This unit is situated perfectly within the resort. It is a short walk to the pool but far enough away that you can not hear any noise. The west facing upper and lower decks are ideal for watching the activity on the water and gorgeous sunsets. Everyday we enjoyed the semi-private gazebo just next to the unit for short afternoon siestas and watching the beautiful sunsets. Did we tell you about the sunsets? It is also very close to the stairway ocean entry where we snorkeled and scuba dived right out front of the resort.

Unit 10B was a delight to stay in. It had all the amenities. The beds & pillows were very comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed, including the all important coffee grinder. One thing we learned about the Island is that the water is desalinated sea water and safe to drink as well as refreshingly delicious. It was great to have the 2 showers. We used the one downstairs as a dive locker - which was very handy for rinsing and hanging gear. The additional space in the bedroom upstairs was very convenient for extra storage. We used this area to set up & store camera gear, underwater camera housing and strobes.

We made several new friends while staying here. New dive buddies who we hope to return together with here and some very friendly iguanas. They really like bananas-skins and all.

Although we ate most of our meals at the condo, we can definitely recommend the pizza & brownie desserts at Sol Food.

The owners of 10B - Cheryl and David were excellent. They replied quickly to our emails and answered all questions. They provided an information package which was very helpful with very good directions from the airport and local information.

We are already dreaming of our next trip to Curacao and staying at Marazul 10B.

Fabulous Stay at Treasure by the Sea

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful 9 night stay in 10B at Marazul. This was our third visit to Marazul since 2014, and first in 10B. We loved this unit - it is tastefully decorated, very comfortable, had everything we needed and is well situated within the complex. We particularly appreciated the ice maker in the fridge, as well as the new window that David and Cheryl have had installed on the back wall of the upstairs washroom. It helped to provide that wonderful cross breeze that is so awesome on the ground floor. We never tired of the views from both the downstairs patio, where we enjoyed breakfast every morning watching the hummingbirds, and little yellow birds visiting the colourful flowers at the edge of the patio, as well as pre-dinner drinks from the upstairs deck as we watched the gorgeous sunsets daily.

Marazul continues to be very well maintained with a lovely pool where we spent lots of time reading, and chatting with fellow guests. There is lots of good snorkelling at nearby beaches, as well as right in front of Marazul. We particularly enjoy Playa Grandi where the fishing boats come in - always lots of turtles to see, as well as Playa Lagun where we encountered a very large iguana swimming in the bay right in front of us. That was a snorkelling first for us!

Lastly, David and Cheryl were absolutely wonderful to deal with. They provided lots of information about Marazul and Curacao, were always very pleasant and very prompt to answer all e-mails. I also enjoyed reading their book (The Navigator's Treasure) just prior to our trip. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend their property, and hope to return ourselves.

Great location and exactly as pictured!

  • 5 of 5

This property was exactly as described and pictured! Loved the location and quaintness of the area. The condo had everything we needed including the ideal place for watching the sunsets on the porch or balcony off the bedroom. Loved this convenience!!

The "welcome packet" provided was especially helpful! Cheryl included everything you might need to know once you arrive in Curacao. This packet came in handy so many times!

Thanks for opening up your beautiful home. We truly enjoyed our time here!

A Week In Paradise

  • 5 of 5

David & Cheryl's home is just as described and pictured. Clean, comfortable, and nicely decorated. Knowing that they live there part of the year is what swayed me. We have stayed at Marazul before, you really can't beat the location. Having an entry point right on property makes it even better. One day I snorkeled over to Playa Kalki and back, along the cliffs. So much to see, even saw a river of fish. Never saw anything like that before!

Excellent communication, they answer questions promptly. The welcome booklet is very thorough. I also recommend their book, I enjoyed it.

I highly recommend staying here, we would love to come back.

Owner's Response: So happy to hear you were happy our little piece of Paradise lived up to your expectations. The location in a peaceful, picturesque fishing village at the end of the island is what attracted us there in the first place. And having the chance to share it with you and other like-minded guests makes it even more special. One of our favorite snorkeling routes is along the cliffs around the bay -- we see something different every time, but a river of fish! How incredibly exciting! We look forward to hosting you at 10B again.

Peaceful and beautiful oceanfront location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a 10-day vacation at Marazul, townhouse 10B. I’d visited Westpunt as a snorkeler in 2006 and was excited to return as a scuba diver. Marazul met our requirements for a peaceful/beautiful/safe oceanfront property, near a reputable dive shop, with onsite sea access. 10B is at the quiet end of the resort and has a full kitchen, two bathrooms, and space to store clothes and gear. It is clean, well-equipped, and a good size for two. The louvered windows let the breeze pass through—we didn’t need the AC. It comes with a drying rack which we placed on the porch. With the wind, this arrangement dried things out quickly. The cleaning crew came once to mop floors and swap out bedding/towels.

I’d forgotten how hot and humid Curacao can be; we spent most of our time underwater or in the shade by the pool. We dove twice at Marazul and found the reef to be healthy and filled with our favorite tropical critters. Thank you to whomever planted the markers to help us find our way back. The steps and ladder leading into the water were easy to navigate, with solid railings. Though we’d planned to dive primarily from shore, we changed our minds after meeting the folks at Go West Diving. Their boat goes to the best sites along the northwest shore, and they’ll store your gear overnight in a locked, ventilated room. We also dove their house reef, Alice in Wonderland. We recommend a night dive there!

We ate breakfasts, most lunches, and one dinner at the townhouse. The owners supply plenty of dishes, utensils, pots/pans. The small, flat-surface cooktop took some getting used to, but we appreciated its easy cleanup. Regarding groceries, we stocked up initially at the Centrum near Willemstad and again in Barber. Barber has two grocery stores (we preferred the once closest to the village), and a pharmacy and gas station. For dinners, we liked Rancho El Sobrino (2-minute walk from 10B), Sol Food (open Fri-Sun), and Trio Penotti (reservations recommended).

We scouted out other accommodations in the area and think Marazul is the best choice. For a reasonable price you enjoy private ocean access, lovely grounds with quiet and social spaces, birds and iguanas, and a playful goat. It is also secure—unfortunately, there is petty crime on the island. The beach lots are patrolled, but even so, we saw a broken-into car at Playa Kalki (just don’t leave anything in your car, you’ll be fine).

Happy travels!
