About the property

Ultimate Couples Getaway with Mountain View!

You don't have to be born in a barn, to vacation in one!! Give yourself a break: Trade in the city for millions of stars in the night sky! Looking for a peaceful getaway?? This is it!!! Located in a secluded, wooded setting, The Red Barn is surrounded by the beautiful hilly country of scenic Brush Creek State Forest! Enjoy nature in luxury. You enter your private property over a custom made, curved-rail bridge, onto the large covered front porch that overlooks Tener mountain, and the spring-fed pond stocked with bass, catfish, and bluegill. The Red Barn is clean and fully stocked with absolutely everything you need - just bring yourself and your food. Master bedroom is 420 sq.ft. with Amish king bed, and a 55" T.V. Bathroom boasts a Rainfall custom-tiled shower, old-fashioned freestanding soaking tub, and washer/dryer. Living room features cedar shake designed interior, cat-napper reclining love seat and custom stone gas fireplace with 43" flat screen T.V. Satellite TV, Free WiFi, and Free long-distance phone service are provided. The fully-stocked kitchen features ample cabinet space, top of the line gas stove, microwave, fridge, and breakfast counter. All linens provided, along with dishes, utensils, pots, pans, spices, coffee etc. Everything is here--just bring yourselves! Grill on either the gas or charcoal grill (charcoal provided), or snuggle up by the outdoor firepit under the stars - Plenty of FREE firewood provided! Bring your friends and their pop-up camper...park and set-up on gravel pad and hook into our electric for just $15 extra per day!

Adams County is a natural "Gem." Re-connect with nature as Golden eagles can be seen soaring above, Kingfishers dive for a meal, & late summer brings the monarch butterflies that visit the purple iron weed (what a photo!). Wild red columbine, and wild Iris,Trillium, can be found, along with morels, and wild ginger, mayflowers, and paw-paws. A short walk leads you into the forest, and hike down the flat road, whitetail and wild turkeys come into view. Welcome to the great outdoors!

The many nature preserves are the trademark of Adams County and are close, and must be seen. Davis memorial forest (4 miles away!), Chapparal Prairie, The Edge of Appalachia Preserve, Johnson Ridge nature preserve, Robert Whipple nature preserve, and the Shoemaker nature preserve (just 2 miles away!), are just a few...all keeping Adams County WILD! Slow down and watch for buggies as you head to Amish country and visit the Amish community of Wheat Ridge. Visit their shops and well-kept farms. And don't forget the homemade turnovers and donuts! You can follow the quilt barn trail, Morgan's raiders trail, or check out covered bridges as you see Adams county from the back roads...the way it should be seen. Head south and see mother natures' Shawnee forest--the "Smokies of Ohio." Fish, rent a boat or...bring your canoe or kayak and explore the scenic Brush Creek! Or if you want wild, fill up the tank and take a slow drive through the secluded wilderness area, maybe see a bobcat, or black bear, or eagle. Then head to the Scioto Ribber, for great steak and yes...ribs. Yum!!

Head southwest for history, and the home of the underground railroad. Reverend Rankin & freed slave John Parker were instrumental in hiding slaves on their journey to Canada. Both homes are national historic landmarks. The proud people of Ripley fought off Morgan's raiders and stopped them from entering Ripley! Eliza from the book Uncle Tom's Cabin was real, and found refuge here. Need more history? Try Serpent Mound and Fort Hill, both ancient Indian earthworks, located near Amish Country. Serpent Mound built at the site of an ancient meteor recently has had crop circles, strange sightings in the sky, and has been reported to be the site of the Garden of Eden (as seen on America Unearthed). It is estimated to have been built 5000 B.C.! (The time of Stonehenge). Thousands flock here in the summer and fall to witness the alignments. And Fort Hill is still a mystery today. We've got it all! See everything or just relax and do nothing in your forest retreat! You decide. Try Adams County's Finest--The Red Barn--and we promise you will return! Bring your canoe or kayak and explore the scenic Brush Creek!

Inexpensive, but there is nothing cheap about the Red Barn--everything is Amish custom-built!

About Deb & Lee Giles

We LOVE the country! And we built this place in one of the most beautiful places in Ohio! Located in Adams County, at the base of Tener Mountain! We wanted something unique, so my husband came up with the idea to build "The Red Barn!"

Deb & Lee Giles purchased this barn in 2015

Why Deb & Lee Giles chose Peebles

We wanted to offer a unique experience to vacationers, and so came up with the idea of a barn vacation rental. Looks like a barn on the outside, but has brand-new full amenities on the inside!! You don't have to be "born in a barn" to vacation in one!

What makes this barn unique

Situated in a secluded, private setting in the forest, overlooking a pond - what more could you ask for???

Build a campfire, and fish in your own acreage--catfish, bass and bluegill are ready. Play corn hole or relax on the covered deck. It's your private retreat! Enjoy!!

All the comforts of home in an amazingly peaceful setting!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, 2 granddaughters and I were fortunate to spend a couple wonderful nights at this beautiful property! The owners, Deb and Lee, went out of their way to book our stay on short notice and kept us notified when severe weather temporarily caused a small problem for our stay. The red barn was cozy and comfortable and the surrounding acreage, wooded with pond and creek, made for the perfect wilderness getaway. The girls enjoyed exploring the woods and creek, resting under the trees in the hammock and our nightly campfires. My husband was thrilled to enjoy the outdoors by day and keep up with sports and entertainment on t.v. in the evening. The beautiful stand of pines where I was able to photograph tiny little Golden-crown Kinglets as they flew between the trees was my favorite part of our stay. Though Adams County has many spots worth visiting, we all agreed that enjoying the beauty and solitude of this rental was the best part of our trip.

Owner's Response: The beauty and solitude of the area is the reason we bought this property. It's wonderful to hear from someone who takes notice of that. Not many people realize that Adams County is home to hundreds of species of rare plants and birds. We're so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for taking the time to submit your review!

Wonderful !

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Deb and Lee. You are wonderful hosts and helpful and kind.

Saw wild turkey and deer. So peaceful.

The limits on internet did pose an issue with our kids bc we had some days when outside was too hot for anyone and we didn’t have cell service so phone data wasn’t an option. Maybe dvd or a gaming system would help get the kids through a rainy day

For the adults the big TVs and dish were plenty.

The cabin was beautiful and very clean. The 2 grills and stocked kitchen were great. The front porch is awesome and you can sit out there during a storm.

I don’t know how they do it but we didn’t have any mosquitos!!

This cabin was enough room for 2 adults and a 16yr and 10 yr old boy. Just be prepared for a rainy or really hot day for the kids.

We did a lot of fishing and they even supplied poles. Coffee, charcoal, towels, bug spray, lanterns , flashlights, shampoo, body wash and blow dryer are supplied. This was so helpful! We will return!

Didn’t want to leave

Absolutely amazing little barn! Beautifully decorated home with fully loaded kitchen. Secluded location, zero cell service, fishing, creeking, and bonfires. Love the wild turkeys, tadpoles, and salamanders. Wished we had stayed longer!!

Loved it!!!

  • 5 of 5

The Red Barn was exactly as it was advertised and more. Lee and Deb has created the perfect get away location. I definitely recommend it to anyone looking to get away and spend time away from the city. The barn has everything you need, just bring yourself and your food. Plenty of sites to see in the area or just sit on the front porch and enjoy the view.

Wonderful quiet area

Beautiful place to stay with all the comforts of home. The area was so quiet. We didn't see another human or car our entire time there. The barn was comfortable and clean with everything we needed. We will definitely be back.

Exactly as described!

  • 5 of 5

My son and I stayed at the Red Cabin following the Christmas holiday. It was exactly as described - clean, fully stocked, and in a great wooded setting. The owners stocked coffee, cleaning items, plenty of firewood, and just about everything else you’d need for a great stay. Despite temperatures being in the teens and low 20’s during our stay we spent approx 6 hours outside each day hiking the area and enjoying a winter campfire. The cabin is located in a beautiful, hilly area. We use VRBO or Home Away for most of our trips and we’ve learned that not all properties live up to their listing descriptions. This one does! We’ll definitely be back. Thank you for making your cabin available for a great holiday get-away.
