2 Bdrms, 2.5 baths. Beautifully appointed with new quality furnishings.

Don't miss this! Two masters both with king beds and their own fireplaces. The larger master has its own alcove study with a lovely view over the countryside, a vanity and a built-in desk where the Wifi modem siits There's also a built in bookcase. The master suite also has a dressing room that leads to a five piece bath with a sunken tub.

The other master has a four piece bath, and patio doors out to the outdoor living room.

A 50 inch TV (Shaw cable) and a massively comfortable sofa are features of the family room that separates the two masters. The family room also has its own onion domed fireplace and another set of patio doors to the outdoor sala.

A staircase leads down from this level to the flagstone courtyard below where a tiled fountain and lush ferns make this a very private, quiet oasis.

Upstairs the principal room is huge with a huge picture-window view of the domes of SMA and the Parroquia. Other features include an imposing canterra fireplace, a dining table for eight, and two sets of patio doors out to a huge open terrace.

The kitchen is right beside both the dining room and patio. No need to carry your dinner up to a rooftop patio for sunset dining. The outdoor table is 10 steps away. Other features of the kitchen:chef's stove , dishwasher and a view to die for. There's even a fireplace in the kitchen.

Off the kitchen is a large, one-car garage that also accommodates the washer/dryer..

The whole house is very well designed, airy and beautiful. Also well maintained and tastefully furnished.

And you won't believe the gentility and competence of the house manager. He will see to every detail.

Hi! My name is Jean Sonmor and for most of my career I was a journalist--investigative reporter specializing in sports and feature writing. I've also done corporate training,written for magazines and authored four books. My husband Regan Devine retired from teaching drama to sell real estate. After a working life spent in downtown Toronto we retired to a beautiful 1844 cobblestone home on the Grand River in Paris ON. Winters there are pristine, austere and beautiful but COLD, so we head south to San Miguel de Allende for the warmth, the colour and a vibe that is anything but austere..

Why Jean Sonmor chose Balcones

Why did we buy Sunny Days? First and foremost the view .We looked at other properties nearly every winter when we were in San Miguel feeling its the magic . At first this was more pastime than project but it's getting harder to find good rentals and we wanted to have a nice place to live.

The minute we walked into Sunny Ways we knew we'd found what we were looking for. It has huge outdoor spaces two patios and a courtyard).The patio on the lower level is an outdoor living room with a sofa and chairs grouped around a wood burning fireplace. Upstairs, steps from the kitchen is an outdoor dining room which seats six and is surrounded by huge pots of lavender. The key feature here (aside from the feeling you're sitting on top of the world) is a copper weeping wall fountain.

But that's far from all there is to like about Sunny Days. As you'll see in the photos the front door opens to a bridge over the courtyard two floors below. Cross over the bridge through another carved door and you're in a huge (32 foot) livingroom/dining room with a handsome Canterra fireplace and a soaring boveda ceiling. At the end of the room is a huge punch-out glass window where you have an unobstructed view to the Parroquia and the 16th century church domes that make you think of Florence. This room has new furnishings. Persian rugs and a real feeling of luxury. At the other end we have a new dining room table with eight upholstered chairs with another huge rug. Two sets of glass patio doors lead out to the outdoor dining room.

The kitchen is beyond that and has big windows with its own,

quite lovely view.The well appointed kitchen has a door to the garage (and the washer-dryer) as well as stainless steel appliances and copper fixtures. In the corner there's an onion-domed fireplace and breakfast bar . Also on this floor is a spacious 2 piece powder room with a window that opens onto the treetops from the courtyard below.

What makes this house unique

My husband, Regan and I are very excited about this beautiful home we've bought in the wonderful city of San Miguel. We've spent parts of the last four winters here and loved every minute of it. I'm a retired writer and he's an aspiring pro golfer (just kidding) but this place really has it all. A great arts scene including a fabulous writer's festival and very fine golf, cycling, yoga etc. (Did you know your ball goes farther if you're high up? SMA is around 6500 feet above sea level.) It also has a nearly perfect climate. This year because we bought the house and were having furniture made etc. we were back three times in seasons we were unfamiliar with. Late June and early July were fabulous--less busy than the winter with the kind of predictable 10-20 minutes of rain that is very easy to deal with. The temperature never went above 85F. The climate and vibe were almost exactly the same in late September and early October when we were back again. Easier to get dinner reservations but still lots going on.

Notes:
The maid (Teresa) comes Mondays and Thursdays to clean and take care of the house. She works from 9-2 and her basic salary is included in the rent. A small weekly gratuity is appropriate if you are pleased with her work. A gardener, handyman comes occasionally to care for the potted plants and to clean the two fountains. t Our wonderfully competent and bilingual house manager will be available to smooth over any rough patches.

A perfect place to enjoy San Miguel

I am a little reluctant to write this as It is the perfect place to stay in SMA and would like to keep it as our secret! But here goes -

This is not the usual VRBO rental. The home is visually wonderful with excellent furnishings and a kitchen featuring a huge French farmhouse gas range. For any foodies this is your place. Just shop at the mercado on the way home for all things fresh and prepare dinner or just breakfast in the morning. Mornings start with stepping on one of the very large patios and watching the hot air ballons rise above the morning mist. You are quite a ways above the city and the views are to die for morning and night.

The walk to the city center can be a little challenging as it is steep and has the usual cobblestones. We are a retired couple in our late 70's and it was not a problem. Remember you are at 6500 feet and watch where you step. Most days we took a cab back up the hill and at 50 pesos it is a bargain. The exchange rate hovers around 20 pesos to 1$US.

I won't repeat the other reviews news except to say they reflect out experience.

Now just stay away so we can come back for a couple of months next year.

Stunning property with spectacular views!

We stayed here for two weeks and absolutely loved Jean and Regan's fabulous home in San Miguel! What a great way to escape the Texas heat. It is such a comfortable, well appointed, and artistically built home with some of the best views we've ever enjoyed. The housekeeper and house manager are also very helpful. Our only regret was the construction going on immediately next door, but Jean and Regan, who are very kind and responsive VRBO hosts, promptly convinced their neighbors to have their workers do interior work as much as possible while we were there, which helped a great deal. I'm sure that project will be over fairly soon. The house is very quiet most nights, which is rather unusual for San Miguel. The wifi is working very well in most areas, including the terraces, where we spent many happy hours in the perfect weather. This home is on a fairly steep hill toward the top (it's hard to find such amazing views without being on a hill), so we often walked down the hill and typically took a $3 taxi or Uber back up, usually laden with numerous groceries or other packages. The quiet nights and the magical views are well worth it. I did a great deal of research for our second stay in delightful San Miguel, and this home was by far the loveliest available within a reasonable price range. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Stunning views, lovely home

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay; beautifully decorated rooms, great location, everything was exactly as pictured. Walk into town was 10 minutes or so, cobblestones are big which meant pace was slower that our usual, but pleasant to be immersed in real life in the charming city of SMA. Some days we took advantage of well-equipped kitchen so we could soak in the views and other times we ate very authentic Mexican cuisine in local restaurants (many to choose from). Recommend day trip to the pyramid La Cañada de Virgen. Completely safe and welcoming city. Would definitely stay at this property again, a gem!

Gorgeous Home... Amazing Views

We couldn't have been happier with our stay at Jean and Regan's beautiful home. The location was just perfect for us... not too far from the town centre (15 minute walk) but far enough to provide breathtaking views of the city and surrounding countryside.

The house itself is an architectural gem but is also incredibly comfortable, stocked with everything needed for a relaxing stay.

Jean and property manager Manolo were very helpful and had lots of recommendations for us first time SMA visitors.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this fantastic home.

Beautiful house with incredible views!

We had a wonderful stay! This house was beautifully decorated with all the amenities we needed. The views were amazing from the living room and both terraces. The pictures don't do the house or views justice! Jean was amazing with her communication through the booking process and while we were there ensuring everything was as expected. Manolo, the property manager was extremely helpful and always available when needed. The housekeeper was available twice a week to clean. The property is only a 10 min walk downhill to the Parroquia. For those who don't like walking uphill back, a taxi is always available in the main square and costs about $40-$50 pesos depending on the time of day. We were very happy with our experience and would definitely stay again when we are back in San Miguel!

Incredible house!!

The views of San Miguel are second to none and the house had all the essentials. You go to SMA to enjoy the city and the weather. The two well appointed decks have a view of the city that can't be beat and allow you to enjoy the wonderful weather outdoors. Although we had a couple of issues, one being a bedroom had not been properly cleaned (dusted), I brought these up to the house manager & owner and was told this will be taken care of.

This being said, I would recommend this house to friends/associates in the future..............and what more can you say about what you think of a house that you rent.

Balcones is a tiny upscale neighbourhood a 10 minute walk from the main market. An outdoor amphitheatre at end of our cul de sac is used for neighbourhood meetings. The district attracts a lovely mix of American and Canadian ex-pats some retired some not and a few families of both Mexicans and Americans. It's a wonderful safe setting, home to two former mayors of the city.
