"The city of Merida, Yucatan, known as the “white city”, is famous for its rich Mayan history and for being home to some of the most important archaeological sites in Mexico. It is a great center of activities and is very well connected by road and air to other places in the region and the country. It offers all the amenities of a big city, together with the rich history and culture of colonial Mexico. It is a cosmopolitan and picturesque city, with a strong Maya influence; it serves as a starting point to visit the archaeological sites of Chichen Itza and Uxmal.
Merida’s centro historico (historic center) is one of the largest in Mexico and laid out on a grid pattern. Many of the buildings in the historic center of Merida, including those on and around the Plaza Grande (central plaza), were built during the colonial period through the 18th and 19th centuries."

This Lovely Colonial home, "la Carambola", is located only a few minutes walk from " El Centro".
As you enter the home, you will first come through the formal sitting room. You will notice 16 foot ceilings and antique floors that have been well preserved. Original archways and doors are through out the home and make this home very inviting.
There are three bedrooms. Two bedrooms on the main level; each with a Queen size bed and a shared bathroom.
The master bedroom is located on the second floor along with the master bath. You will notice that we have combined "the New" with "the Old" even in the bathrooms.
All bedrooms are equipped with air conditioning. All rooms in the home have ceiling fans.

If you like to cook, the gourmet kitchen has everything you will need to prepare your feast. However, if you do not wish to cook, there are numerous restaurants to choose from.

After a long day of sight seeing , you will be glad to come home to your private pool and cool off and relax.
There is an rooftop patio and a lower patio to enjoy a meal or simply to relax.

This home has a large 2 car garage. If you wish to rent a vehicle, motor cycles, or bicycles, you will always have a safe place to store them.
If you need to have laundry done, the home is also equipped with a washer and dryer.

Perfect centro Merida base camp !
Three of us stayed here for 10 days. It was perfectly located to walk to many of the key targets in centro historic downtown. We also visited the zoo and paseo montejo. We did several day trips to ruins and cenotes. The communications with the owner were timely and helpful! We left the keys by the pool and locked the back gate and locked ourselves out. Another set of keys were delivered and problem solved. It is a quiet retreat to hang out during the heat of tha day and chill out before the evening wander. We hope to return and stay again!! Highly recommended🐻

Merida stay
The home is beautiful. The pool felt wonderful to swim in after a hot afternoon out sightseeing. The home was very clean. The only thing we noticed was that the master bedroom Bed needed new pillows and mattress pad. Close proximity to parks and shopping. Good communication with manager and host. The kitchen was very spacious and great area to cook a good meal. Would be happy to rent this home again when staying in Merida.

Beautiful, clean, and comfortable
This is a lovely, large home. It's very clean and well-maintained. The design and decor are beautiful. Be sure to look in the notebook of photographs from the renovation. The transformation is amazing! The location was perfect for us. We liked being so close to Parque Santiago. It has great food stalls, a mercado with fresh vegetables and meats, and music/dancing in the square on Tuesday nights. The main Plaza Grande is also in walking distance. We had a little difficulty upon arrival. The code given for the lock box was incorrect and the gas wasn't working. However, I was able to reach the property manager by phone immediately. She and her team worked late into the evening to correct the problem. Smooth sailing from then on! I highly recommend this beautiful and comfortable home.

Why they chose this property

My sister lives in Merida and with every year that we visited we loved the city and the surrounding area more and more. There is just so much to see and do!
The Colonial homes in downtown (Centro) are just amazing.
We love exploring, and this home has provided us with easy access to many of Mexico's amazing sights, such as Uxmal, Chichenitza, Izamal, etc...
Long story short, we decided we wanted a home of our own.

What makes this property unique

This particular home needed very little structural change, It was mostly cosmetic. This home is over 100 years old. We loved the high ceiling, old doors, original floors and archways. We wanted to keep the feel of the original home in tact. I think we accomplished that, and hope that anyone who stays in our home will appreciate that and truly enjoy their stay at la Carambola house.
