About the property

Quaint 2 Acre Property With 2 Bed 2/ Bath Bungalow overlooking the Caribbean

Walk down to your own dock to swim, snorkel, kayak, sunbathe, or drop in a fishing line at our oceanside vacation home in Roatan. Two small islands just off our property break the ocean, providing a crystal clear Caribbean swimming channel. Explore the beautiful, lush grounds, which include two acres of hibiscus, papayas, bananas, mangoes, almonds, sea-grapes, grapefruit, cashews, and tamarind. One of the best dive shops on the island is just a five minute drive away from our home. One of the best dive sites anywhere, Mary's Place, is just offshore. You're also a swim away from some of Roatan's best snorkeling!

Our two-bedroom, two-bath home comes equipped with everything that you need for a relaxing vacation. Each bedroom has two full-size beds, ample closet space, and an attached full bath. The kitchen has a microwave, gas stove/oven, and a full sized refrigerator. A newly installed water filtration system ensures safe drinking water from every tap. There is also on-site laundry for your convenience.

The home is located outside of the busy cruise ship area, yet within easy driving distance to all the island's best spots. We are in a quiet neighborhood just ten minutes east of Coxen Hole. A 25-minute drive from our location will get you to West Bay Beach and West End. A 30-minute drive the other way will lead you to Jonesville/Oakridge (known as The Venice of the Caribbean) and the famous Hole in The Wall restaurant.

Our central location gives you the opportunity to spend the day enjoying all the best that the island has to offer, and then pass the evening listening to the relaxing sounds of the ocean and watching the beautiful night lights of French Harbor.

About Terry Back

My wife and I are both in the computer software industry in the U.S. and love to dive and enjoy the outdoors. As part of our search for an offshore property where we could enjoy our passion for diving, we visited Roatan. After just a day on the island, we knew it was the place for us. And when we found the "Mango Mansion" we knew this would eventually be home. Until then, we rent it on VRBO so that you too can experience the amazing beauty in this area of Roatan.

A must stay in paradise!

We just returned from a week in beautiful Roatan! This house is off the beaten path, which isn't often mentioned in reviews. You will find a private beach, as well as a bar, all within walking distance! The caretaker Pichi was beyond awesome! This guy will do anything he can to help - day or night - it was like having our own personal concierge! From taking us out snorkeling on his boat, taking us grocery shopping, serving as a tour guide and transportation specialist, Pichi is truly a top-notch caretaker! One thing to keep in mind is that you are in fact in the jungle and yes, there will be bugs! We found that Sawyer bug repellents are the best out there! Rocky and Rambo, the two resident perros, are more than welcoming of all guests! We never had to turn on the a/c units, but the layout of the house is very open and airy and it kept the house quite cool at night. We recommend buying a couple bags of ice to put in the freezer for chilled drinks, but buying bottled water wasn't necessary as Pichi kept plenty of 5 gallon water jugs available for the water dispenser. While we were in Roatan, Pichi acquired a van and he offers his transportation services at a rate lower than the other companies on the island with a driver you know and trust! We rented a scooter and a motorcycle for the week from Captain Van's on West End, and we highly recommend doing the same! In our opinion, it is the best way to see the island and we didn't find any place that the scooter couldn't go! There is no better feeling than falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean and in Roatan, there is no better place to experience that than this property!

What makes this bungalow unique

Fantastic House

We just returned from a wonderful week at Hibiscus Haven, and are already missing it. I fell in love with this house the first time I saw the pictures, and after looking through ALL the other Roatan listings, I kept finding myself coming back to Hibiscus Haven. I dreamt for weeks of enjoying the beautiful blue water from the private dock, and secretly prayed that the pictures weren't better than the real thing. I had NOTHING to worry about. This house is spectacular, and the pictures don't do it justice. The private dock is just a few steps down to the waters edge. The mangrove island really does make a PERFECT, calm place for swimming and kayaking (kayaks provided). Not one day went by that we didn't spend at least a few hours here at the dock. And, when I say private, I mean private. There are neighbors to each side, but we didn't see them one single time. It's like we had an entire ocean to ourselves. The house is so cute. It is kept VERY clean by Sindy, one half of a husband/wife caretaking team. The house sits up on the hill with windows ALL around, so the breeze filled the house constantly. We never had to use the air conditioners. In fact, it got just a tad chilly a couple of times at night (well, for some of us in our party....others thought we were crazy). There are fans, and ceiling fans to help circulate the air if the breeze isn't blowing. Also, something that is nice, is that there is a HUGE assortment of spices, so you won't need to buy any. Bottled water is provided as well. Pichi, the second half of the husband/wife caretaker team, took very good care of us. He took us grocery shopping the first day, and even took us to West Bay for the best snorkeling EVER! Anything we needed, Pichi (and/or Sindy) got it for us. He even ordered pizza for us when we found out our rental car had not headlights and we were stranded.

Paradise on Roatan

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at the Mango Mansion during the first week of October 2016, and can't wait until I have the opportunity to return. I did a lot of research before traveling to Roatan, and must have looked at every listing on the island. The pictures of the Mango Mansion sold me on the place, and seeing the property in person did not disappoint. While the house is charmingly rustic, it is well maintained and has everything that is needed for a memorable stay on the island. The location is one of a kind: a private channel that is part lagoon and part infinity pool, and just a short swim to the ocean. The house sits high enough so that the breeze is nearly constant, but a short walk down the stairs leads to a private two-story dock. I found it to be the perfect place to enjoy my morning coffee or an afternoon cocktail. This is a VERY private and quiet location. While there are neighbors nearby, you'd never know it. The loudest noise I heard during my trip were the various birds singing as the sun rose. I found the Mango Mansion to be the perfect combination of security and serenity. I cooked at 'home' almost every night, but there are excellent restaurants in French Harbor (Snappers for lunch/fish market, Romeos and Gios for dinner) if you want to go out. The house was advertised as having a water filtration system, and I can vouch for its safety. It was really nice to be able to drink water straight from the taps.

The property management company (Ana, Luca and Francisco) made sure that I had all that I needed. They met me at the airport and took me grocery shopping. They were there to help me with anything and everything.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Mango Mansion, and cannot wait to return.

A month in paradise

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I, as well a coming and going friends, stayed for a month at this beautiful spot. It was relaxing and quiet with stunning sunrises. The back channel in front of the house was excellent for kayaking, swimming and snorkeling. We saw barracuda, octupus, rays, lobster, shrimp, lionfish, squid and many beautiful fish right off the dock. It is perfect for an out of the way stay. Owners were excellent providing information and were extremely prompt in responding to communication.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your comments and hope that we see you again. Note: Since this review: * Pichi has immigrated to the US, but we have new caretakers that are very good. * We've purchased this property from Kevin and continue to operate it as a VRBO. * We've made some capital improvements, most notably installing whole house water filtration so you can drink right from the faucet (we do!). We''ve also installed instant on hot water for both showers. * We've also painted the house inside and out. (White inside; Terra Cotta with dark brown trim). We've al
