About the property

An Architectural Jewel With Lush Foliage And 3 Levels Of Terrazas In The Centro

Embraced by towering nut trees, La Casa de las Nueces is a safe and pleasant 3-4 block walk to the Jardin.

The casa is entered via a centuries- old arched canterra doorway, guarded from above by a statue of San Miguel, the patron of our pueblo.

A natural stone fountain serenades the entryway, across from an arched opening that provides a glimpse of the Escheresque stairway to the upper levels.

The spacious living room is graced by a chiminea and open beamed 14 ft. ceilings. A canterra arch dating from the original construction transitions into the dining room. An antique mesquite mesa sits 8 people comfortably.

The well equipped kitchen adjoins the breakfast room, which has the original hearth area, and a sunlit office with Wi-Fi and internet available. A shaded terraza outside the breakfast room invited you to dine alfresco, surrounded by arches and sheltered by the imaginative boveda and cupola.

Two colorful king-size suites are located on opposite sides of the living room. The Master Bedroom is large and spacious, with a cupola skylight & a chiminea perfect for romantic nights.

The Master Bath has a Jacuzzi tub surrounding by natural stone emerging through the walls, and a spectacular stained glass partition separating the tub from the large, well-lit central area of the bathroom. The design is unique, created in harmony with the natural beauty surrounding the casa. There is a separate shower area as well.

The second suite is also quire large and has a chiminea as well as a private arched entrance from the front patio. This suite has a beautifully tiled bathroom with sunken tub, graced by a mural on the shower wall.

Ascending the dramatic stairs, you arrive on the largest terraza, with comfortable conversation areas, surrounded by colorful arches & sheltered by a tiled roof and skylights. The table and chairs under a beautifully crafted boveda create an attractive alcove . This level is perfectly positioned for watching the beautiful birds that visit our trees. Also on this level is a covered kitchen area with sink, gas stovetop and a BBQ grill.

Soaring above the treetops, the uppermost terraza beckons with stunning vistas of scarlet sunsets, sparkling fireworks and moonlit Mexico. Illuminated cathedrals in the Centro are framed by majestic mountains beyond the lake.

A washer and drier are available on the main level. There is protected parking inside the gate for one vehicle and a neighborhood estacionamiento (parking lot) is about 1/2 block away

Additionally, on a lower level of the casa, there is a small casita area with separate entrance, equipped with a comfortable queen sized bed, a fold out futon and a private bath with shower. This area is not elegant but is a great sleeping option for teenagers & overflow guests. This is not included in the current rates but arrangements can be made if the area is needed.

About Sherilyn Webb

After traveling much of the world, we found ourselves returning again & again to the music, color, culture, & art of Mexico.

Attending a MedSpanish course, we had the opportunity to work on the ambulance during the final San Miguelada (Running of the Bulls) with the Cruz Roja & the excellent staff of the local hospital's Emergency Department. Returning a few months later, we purchased La Casa de las Nueces, & remain totally enchanted with San Miguel de Allende.

We continue to work in los Estados Unidos most of the year, living on a farm in the Ouachita Mountains of western Arkansas, and returning to San Miguel several times yearly.

Sherilyn Webb purchased this house in 2006

Why Sherilyn Webb chose Zona Centro

La Casa de las Nueces is unique among the properties we have visited.

We have close proximity & easy access to the attractions of the Centro, but are located in a quiet neighborhood without the constant roar of traffic & smell of exhaust that detract from many of the other beautiful homes.

What makes this house unique

We live in real Mexico, in a congenial community of Mexicanos & gringos, with grandmothers, children, & very nice hardworking people. Many are members of the same extended family.

We love our neighborhood, & have always felt safe there, with friendly neighbors who honor us with invitations to celebrations, fiestas, & neighborhood meetings.

Above Expectations

  • 5 of 5

I typically set my expectations low when traveling so as to not be disappointed when reality hits. But in the case of La Casa De Nueces, I was pleasantly surprised. Value = A+, Location=A, Architecture=A+, support from Sharon (one of the owners) A++. There was some construction noise during the day down the street, but that could not dampen the overall tranquility of the home. My wife and I felt like royalty staying in a very large 300 year old Casa. It met all of our expectation of staying in a significant architectural home in Mexico.

This is a great property that is very well cared for. Close to Central Walking distance to town. Beautiful interior and wonderful outdoor space. We stayed there for an extended length of time, and loved it. Barb Mossman

Perfect Location

  • 4 of 5

We are leaving for home tomorrow after spending a most amazing two weeks in San Miguel with La Casa De Las Nueces as our home . This is truly a special home - location was perfect and the home was fully equipped with all the creature comforts of home plus more. We enjoyed sitting out on the many terraces, the luxury of having a fire to take the chill out of the evening air, the beautiful Mexican kitchen, friendly neighborhood and the easy walk into town.

Highly recommended

  • 5 of 5

Exceeded what we expected even after seeing the pictures on the website. Beautifully decorated, well appointed and located on a quiet cul de sac of a typical, friendly Mexican neighborhood close to centro and the marketplace. The cheerful housekeeper, Lolita, prepared two wonderful traditional meals and kept the house well in order. Would certainly stay here again.

Tours of La Canada de la Virgen, the pre-Toltec pyramids just outside San Miguel are a special experience. These ruins are spectacularly sited, & include ancient astrological alignment features & tombs.

Additional nearby attractions include Las Grutas thermal hot springs, indigenous art at Atotonilco, horseback ridig in the mountains, trips along La Ruta de Capillas, & a beautiful botanical garden on the edge of town.

San Miguel has fiestas too numerous to count, & thriving indigenous communities share their art , music & dancing.

The colonial jewels of Queretaro & Guanajuato are close enough for easy day trips. Transportation is easily arranged.
