About the property

Located On Historic Jackson Street. 9 Bedrooms. 8 Bathrooms. Close To The Beach.

The Brandivor Beach Manor. First built in 1882 as the George Hildreth House, this home is the perfect combination of Victorian charm and modern amenities. Formerly Poor Richard's Inn, a very successful bed and breakfast. We have decided to turn this amazing house into a home.

This home features a large living room, a large dining room, a large back parlor, 9 bedrooms and 8 baths (mixture of double beds, queen, single beds, and one king), all richly decorated. Shaded porches offer relaxing spaces for reading, watching the horse-drawn carriages go by or enjoying the summer breezes. The 2nd floor porch has a lovely view of the ocean. Our location is in the heart of Cape May's historic district, placing you within walking distance to all the great shopping, restaurants, art galleries, miniature golf, arcades and, of course, our wonderful beaches. There is a large backyard with 2 twelve foot picnic tables for BBQ, games, family gatherings and more. Also there is an outside shower. Our kitchen was renovated in 2016 featuring quartz counter tops, stainless steel appliances, and custom cabinetry.

This home has everything you can possibly need for your enjoyment; WiFi throughout, a TV in every bedroom. Perfect house for extended families, reunions or corporate events. Come and make your own Cape May memories at this beautiful vacation home.

Brand new gas grill and picnic tables for your outdoor enjoyment located in the backyard.

Sorry no pets.

Off site parking nearby-- permits for 9 cars. Once you park you will not need your car again.

The beach is only 3 doors down (300 feet away)!!!

Fabulous weekend in a stunning home!

  • 5 of 5

I rented this property for my husband's 50th birthday to celebrate with 18 friends and family. Communication with the owner was easy and helpful. I was blown away when we walked into this warm and comfortable home. There was plenty of space for everyone and it was very conducive to a large group. I couldn't be more pleased with the location, considering it's April and the weather was chilly and rainy. We were so close to restaurants, shopping, bars, and beach. Everyone in our group raved over the living spaces, bedrooms, and bathrooms. I would recommend renting this house to anyone and hope to go back for our next huge family celebration! Thank you for making my husband's birthday extra special!

FUNKY OLD HOUSE WITH GREAT CHARACTER NEAR OCEAN AND IN THE HEART OF TOWN

  • 4 of 5

Pleasant welcome from Gigi (I think was her name) who let us arrive an hour early when we requested it. Best parts are the front porch with rocking chairs, large dining room with great long table, and modern kitchen (though you might want to bring a sturdy metal spoon for stirring in large pots --the ones there are plastic and flimsy.) Rules of the house seem to have been written by a third world dictator! Large fines galore for various infractions, so read them VERY carefully. (We wished we had taken pictures of furniture placement because it's $250 for each piece not in its starting place and we panicked when we read that.) None of the fines are in your favor! We decided they were probably written for groups of single, young party-ers, and not elderly bores like us. Bathrooms galore. Shower in main bedroom was broken. Painter working outside on the upstairs porch, but sure that was a one time thing. Very close to a great beach (which you can see from the porch) and all the touristy shops. Right next door to the Mad Batter which serves a knockout brunch. Getting to parking lot and back to inn is very confusing and not close by. And don't loose the town tag--another $250 fine. But you don't need a car once you've unloaded. Traffic in the center of town is the pits. HUGE cleaning fee, so figure that in the final cost/price. And if you don't bring linens, you have to rent them and it ain't cheap! Think of it as a bare bones boat rental. Beds, pillows etc are there. But you'll need to bring hand soap, shampoo, towels etc. And a reading light if you read in bed. Very dim lighting in bedrooms.

Fun neighborhood to be in for watching the world --and horse and carriages--walk by, and the multiple police actions on a late late Saturday night were an entertainment bonus. All involving drunkenness. We found it amusing to watch the sobriety tests etc. Even answered a question from a foot cop who wanted to know which direction someone went.

So, go knowing it is a good big house, great for sitting around and chatting with a large group of family/friends, that it is an old house (people stop and take pictures of it,) that it is centrally located and wonderful for people-watching, and that it is quiet in the bedrooms. I am writing this before deposit is returned, but believe it is about to arrive. And we received no fines!

Owner's Response: Thank you for choosing our home for your weekend. So glad you enjoyed the house and its location. Again my apologies for the one shower not working. It's an old house. We have made huge strides updating it but occasionally issues do pop up and in this instance we were not successful in finding an immediate remedy. Your review was a bit confusing so I thought I would address your issues to ease concerns of future renters. As you can imagine our house rules were written to avoid past experiences from occurring again. I have read the house rules of others in Cape May and do not think ours any different. Our rules are a copy of our friend who has a home on Howard St and has been successfully renting her home for over 10 years. Maybe it was laziness on our part to copy hers but it's worked thus far. The fees might seem crazy but it deters people from doing things. Luckily we haven't had an issue with furniture or lost passes yet (and, as you know, we sent back your entire deposit). It's a $25 fee (not $250) for each item of furniture being moved. Our friends have had people move couches and beds to different floors and she's had to hire movers. She placed those fees in the house rules and it never happened again. That's why we have it too, to avoid situations like that. Also you were mistaken about the $250 amount for each lost parking permit. It is $100 which covers the

Fun long weekend

  • 5 of 5

Big house that comfortably fit 22 of us. It rained all day one of the days we were there so we were mostly confined to the house, but it was very comfortable with the large common areas. Michael was easy to communicate with, was very helpful, and understanding. He has these huge tables outside that made it very easy to have big family meals. The house is half a block from the beach and 1 block from the center of town. Very convenient. Would love to stay there again.

Amazing home! Central to all that Cape May offers! Hop, Skip & Jump from Beach!

We went with 5 families plus parents, thoroughly enjoyed the home. Very spacious. Contemporary renovated, still maintaining its Victorian charm. The owner was always available should you have any questions throughout your stay.

My entire family loved the house and the location. The unloading parking spots were very convenient. The parking lot for permit parking was also in walking distance and also convenient.

We had four generations staying at the house and every group enjoyed the activities that were available. We all really enjoyed our vacation and look forward to a vacation there next year.

The house also had everything we needed. Thank you!

  • 5 of 5

We all loved this place (n=13) plus a couple cousin visits for a night or two. Plenty of room for everyone, very well kept with beautiful features old and new. A great location with lots to do within walking distance. Just sitting on the front porch was a treat! Thanks to Michael (owner) for being so attentive... this vacation was an awesome experience for my family :) Cape May is a beautiful place.
