About this property

Enchanting & rustic Artists Chalet. 4/2, dog friendly. 200 Special rate!

This unique and eclectic and rustic home has many of the owners paintings and carved and painted furniture showcased throughout the home, as well as many local artists paintings, artwork, and antiques gracing the home. It also features an expansive entertaining deck to enjoy the tall pines. There's a fenced back yard for Fido.

This visually enchanting Artist's Chalet is a perfect Flagstaff retreat. The home is located in Kachina Village in a quiet cul-de-sac with 8 other homes, and 8 miles from historic downtown Flagstaff, 5 miles from west Flagstaff and 23 miles from Snowbowl skiing.

Relax on the deck in a swinging chair, or enjoy the outdoor firepit. Firepit may not be available in winter or during fire restrictions. Upstairs skylights and lots of windows provide plenty of day light and an evening star filled view.

An outdoor paradise, is surrounded by amazing hiking trails, excellent cross country skiing, world class mountain biking, and canyoneering. Just minutes from historic downtown Flagstaff, you can find native culture, fine arts and great restaurants and epic winter sports activities at the Arizona Snowbowl and Flagstaff Nordic center. Great adventures and memories are just a short trip in your car! The red rocks of Sedona, Monument Valley, Wupatki National Monument, Painted Desert, the Arizona wine country, kayaking on the Verde river, bumping along dirt roads in the Arizona back country while discovering wildlife, alpine lakes and high desert vistas, and of course, the epic views of the Grand Canyon!

The Artist's Chalet is dog friendly with approval of the property manager. The home has a fenced in back yard that many a critter has played in. Please note that forest is a wonderful place for dogs to explore but don't under-estimate the vastness of this wilderness section. Miles and miles of forest, canyons and steep cliffs offer opportunities for adventure but easy for a critter to get lost (and you too!).

Great location but….
While the location of the accommodation was excellent, offering easy access to the Grand Canyon, we must note that the cleanliness fell short of expectations - even though the description said the cabin was “rustic”. I have NEVER left a review like this, but feel It’s important enough to do so with details. The house showed signs of neglect, with some areas visibly dirty. The upstairs bathroom toilet has black mold, the sink drain was clogged with hair, and the tub was dirty. The stove and toaster oven haven’t been cleaned in a long time. Floor vents were dirty as well. Matt was quick to communicate when we had problems with the thermostat. Despite this, it has great potential, and with improved maintenance, it could provide a more enjoyable stay for future guests. Consideration of a DEEP thorough clean would enhance the overall experience. We also recommend closing windows before guests arrive as the house was very cold, and leave a light on for late arrival.

Nice quiet property
Great location that suited all of our needs. Nice and central for hiking Sedona (40 min) and the Grand Canyon (70 min). The “cabin” is rustic but satisfied all our requirements. Quiet, comfortable bed, and a well equipped kitchen. Downstairs tv is in a rather odd location for comfortable watching, we chose to do tv time in the bedroom. We left out four footed friends at home but this a great spot if you do have pets. Would stay again.

Unique stay!
Our stay was wonderful, everything was clean and Matt (owner) was quick to respond and allowed for an early check in. The home is definitely very artistic and unique. There was 3 of us with our 2 dogs and the home had everything we needed while we had to be away from our home due to remodeling. Thank you Matt!

I am an artist, outdoor enthusiast and a social worker! This house has been such an extension of all these things.
I've traveled around the world and have had the pleasure of staying in family homes, I'm so happy and to be able to offer my home to you!

Why they chose this property

My former wife and I fell in love with this home in the forest back in 96. I made my name as both an artist and a social worker. The Grandon Art gallery was a fixture of Flagstaff for many years and fostered acclaimed artists of the region. Many of these artists, as well as my own work hang on the walls of the House. The original drive way was in the front and there where no plants other than the pines! This is the first year that the apple tree bore fruit!

What makes this property unique

The adventure starts from the front porch! Whether you are interested in a meandering hike along a seasonal stream, exploring remote canyons, discovering a hidden waterfall, or canyoneering with ropes and narrow chilly slot canyon swims, you can get there, without starting your car. From the front porch Iv'e seen coyote, fox, elk, bear, porcupine and javalina that have snuffled in the flowers! In the winter time, the sledding hills are spectacular for kids, plus cross country skiing or snowshoeing gives you access to a silent wilderness. The mountain biking is outrageous! Tremendous trails for all levels.
Flagstaff is such a charming mountain town with a vibrant arts, dining and music scene. You might find yourself enjoying great bluegrass music sitting outdoors on the patio of Flag Brewing Company chatting with local artists or river guides reliving the epic run at Hance rapid or lava falls in the Grand Canyon. You will fall in love with this mountain town!
