Lots Of Room In This 1 Bedroom/1 Bath Suite With Fireplace & Mountain Views.

Our newly built 1000 square ft. Terrace Suite with private entrance, is the first level of Pine Cone Lodge, our home. The private outdoor terrace runs all across the front of the Terrace Suite, overlooks the mountains and beautiful grounds, your private hot tub, and is accessed by french doors all across the front. Wake up to the mountain view from your queen size bed. Enjoy the beautiful mist and clouds we have on many mornings. Close the custom built barn door to the living area and someone can use the queen sleeper sofa in the living area. Enjoy a fire in the gas fireplace while also looking out at the gorgeous view...have a beverage at the custom built bar, enjoy cable TV or pandora and just relax. The bar has a Keurig coffeemaker, and refrigerator. Please don't plan to cook, this suite does not have a kitchen, wiring to accommodate kitchen appliances or an exhaust fan. Plan to enjoy the many fine restaurants Dahlonega has to offer. Relax at the fire pit or on the terrace deck in the rocking chairs or swing before heading to the wineries or one of our areas many attractions.. If you want a neighborhood hike, walk down to the pond...the walk back up is steep...a very good work out! We think you will find everything you need to relax and get away from it all....if not, just give us a call and ask.

About Judy Wheeler

A Michigan girl and a Georgia boy decided we wanted a mountain retreat. We built our cabin, Pine Cone Lodge, that we rented to local wedding guests. After falling in love with this area, we retired and moved up here in 2010. My husband, Butch, loves grooming the grounds and has planted many of the Mountain Laurel you see growing. Well, he couldn't keep up 2 homes, so we "downsized", or that is what we thought we were doing. After some time living here, we decided the kitchen was too small, as were the closets and bath. Soon we were knocking out walls, adding a garage and carriage house, sunroom, screen porch, expanding the kitchen and enlarging our bathroom and closets. When the house grew, the decks needed to grow, and they did. After a couple of years, (I was missing the smell of new wood and excitement of construction), we decided to finish the Terrace Suite, the lower level of our home, and here we are....2018, hoping you will enjoy our property as much as we do.

When we decided to do a mountain rental/retreat, we didn't think twice. Then, when the Georgia Wine Highway was designated in the area, we knew it would have a great future. Dahlonega is a wonderful, friendly, small town, full of people from all walks of life and locations. Many are newcomers to the area, so people are looking to make social connections. That makes it easy to participate and feel a part of this great area.

What makes this apartment unique

We loved the views, security and privacy of our property, while still being located near Dahlonega and the wineries. When building we took the views and privacy into consideration when planning placement of the home and windows, to take full advantage of these features. Enjoy your brief time in the mountains in a cabin atmosphere, rather than the hustle and bustle of a hotel, and see for yourself.

Notes:
Hwy 60 is not only Georgia's Wine Highway, it is also the road used by bicycling and motor bike enthusiasts. We are located within 4-12 miles of 6 different wineries. State parks, lakes, trout streams, waterfalls and the Appalachian Trail are nearby. The gold mines and Gold Museum are here because this area and Arauria was where gold was first discovered, and the Cherokee were driven out. Dahlonega is a Cherokee word for yellow, or gold....I'm not sure which. Drive about 3/4 mile past our entrance and you will see a large stone pile. Legend has it that an Indian Princess was buried here, and if you pass by and need good luck, place another stone on the pile. Thus the name of the road to the left, Stone Pile Gap Rd. If you are sitting outside enjoying your morning coffee, you might just see one of the local bears or deer. One of our guests was surprised to see 2 of the bears walking between the lodge and the fire pit.....they felt their trip to the mountains was then complete.

I received explicit directions (plus an offer to call with any questions) and a detailed list of where everything is and how to use it. The view in person is MUCH prettier than the photo. There were lovely wind chimes (the nice ones) that added a nice touch. If you're looking for a beautiful, quiet place in the mountains, THIS IS IT!!! I look forward to my next visit! The property was more than we expected! The entrance is very easily accessible, and is nice and private. It feels comfortable and welcoming like home. Everything we needed was provided and checking in and out was a breeze.

Disappointed...

We rented the basement portion of the home which was nice enough and the view of the mountains was splendid, however, it was not what we had hoped for. There were several issues: we killed a mouse on the 1st night, there was no way to control the temperature (had to text the owner and ask them to turn down the heat), the hot tub was not ready when we arrived and we had to wait a couple of hours for it to heat up (and they wanted us to turn the heat back down after using :( , there was a huge hair ball in the shower drain from the previous guest. Also, there were no plates, cups, etc. only coffee cups and wine glasses, the bed was awful (terrible mattress and squeaky frame), and you could hear every step the owners made upstairs...10 PM or 6 AM...it was so annoying. We would not stay here again. We emailed the owners to discuss the issues but never heard anything from them.

Owner's Response: I want to apologize for not getting back to you before now. We had a medical emergency that night that created all the rapid footsteps back and forth. As you know, i took my wife to the hospital, where she has been off and on for the last 2 months, and I’ve been consumed with her care. To explain some of the issues, we have a monthly pest control, but when living in the forest, occasionally not foolproof. The hot tub was clean and ready, except for the temperature. Had you requested ahead of time, when I sent directions, we would have turned it up for you, as we have for others. The bathroom was unacceptable, and we would have done an immediate reclean had you let us know, just as we adjusted the temperature in the suite when notified. The Terrace is not designed as a kitchen, but coffee and bar service only. That is the reason there are not plates, only cups and glasses, as fully described on the VRBO site. This is the first complaint about the bed and mattress, and we will check this out. All this being said, we are sorry and regret that you weren’t pleased with your stay. We take great pride in our guests having an exceptional experience and thank you for your comments. Butch and Judy Wheeler

We are in the midst of all Dahlonega and the NE GA Mountains has to offer. The Appalachian Trail and waterfalls, easy hikes, fly fishing, bicycling on the 6 Gap route, gold mining and wineries are all around us. Our property adjoins the Chattahoochee National Forest, so you can walk out the door and start your own exploring. Or, hike down to our small lake and feed the koi. Be prepared, the walk back up the hill is a killer! A must and our favorite is brunch at Wolf Mtn Vineyards-make a reservation, they fill up fast. The area vineyards and tasting rooms usually have music on the weekends, and very friendly atmosphere. Give a girl a glass of wine and she doesn't meet a stranger! Don't miss out on gold mining...everyone must try it at least once. Wander into town and check out the Gold Museum, Visitor's Center, and menus and entertainment at our restaurants. Before you visit, check the NGCSU website. They often have some wonderful activities scheduled. The town square is anchored by the Gold Museum, and on Saturdays you will find lots of different musicians jamming. If all of this becomes too much, come back and relax in the hot tub or at the fire pit and listen.....you won't be disturbed by the sounds you would hear if you were staying at a hotel. This is your own little country retreat.
