About the property

Casa de Milagros ( House of Miracles) is located on the South end of the Sea of Cortez in the secluded, serene, safe, and upscale community of Playa Colorada. It is very near the authentic fishing village of La Ribera which has friendly people, grocery shopping, delicious local restaurants, emergency medical services, and the new Cabo Riviera Marina.

Life has a seductive rythmn here beginning with a meditative moment at dawn and culminating with a dazzling display of sparkling stars in the night sky that is so clear and dark that you can actually see the Milky Way.

Here, the soothing sounds of gentle waves, the briney smell of the sea, and the comforting feeling of warm salt water and soft white sand caressing your feet merge into a perfectly sensual experience. Your mind and body say, "this is heaven."

There is no sound pollution, air pollution, light pollution, or people pollution. You leave all of that behind at The Los Cabos airport and take a scenic 45 minute drive North to an area of Baja known as The East Cape. The East Cape is known world wide for it's world class sports fishing , but it offers so much more that many think of it as Mexico's best kept secret.

On the East Cape, miles of pristine beaches meet a tranquil turquoise sea bordered by stunning mountain ranges. The sea is crystal clear, warm, safe, accessible, and abundant with marine life. There are no rogue waves, undertows, rip tides, or hidden rocks. It beckons swimmers of all ages and ability, kayakers, snorklers, divers, paddle boarders, and surf casters. It's smooth and sandy beaches beg to be explored and you can beach comb for miles and hardly ever encounter another person. All of this is your choice. You can do a lot here , or simply do nothing but bask in the peace, privacy, and pristine beauty that will engulf you.

If you chose to venture away from Play Colorada and all that it has to offer there are many options. You can stay near by and visit Cabo Pulmo Marine Park which is the only living reef in the Eastern Pacific for fabulous snorkeling. You can spend a day on the sea sports fishing or travel to the nearby mountains and hike to a waterfall. Day trips for elegant shopping, delicious and varied restaurants, and restorative spa treatments are available to Los Cabos. Many guests plan to do these things but once they arrive they just decide to stay and be at Playa Colorada. After all, those other things are available almost everywhere but what Playa Colorada has to offer is rare indeed.

Now you know why we built our home here when we could have built it almost anywhere. Let me tell you about the house. Casa de Milagros is a modern Mexican beach house built in the hacienda style which means that it 's public and private spaces are built around an interior courtyard and enclosed within a wall.

This style of building is and was very popular in Mexico as the design is very practical and provides a private outdoor living area in a climate where residents want to live outdoors much of the time. In this case, all of the main living spaces open onto the enclosed interior courtyard that contains a 60 foot lap pool and outdoor dining.

Casa de Miagros is not a luxury villa . It is an attractively designed, well appointed, and very livable beach house made for relaxed indoor/outdoor living. The home contains 2 main bedrooms, a studio apartment, a spare sleeping room, an office, 5 bathrooms, and an outdoor shower near the pool. The main entrance to the house accesses the interior courtyard with the pool and if your turn left, you go to the great room which contains the living room with fireplace, the dining area, a modern kitchen with all of the conveniences of home, a pantry and a full bathroom.. This area of the house also has a separate office with desk, wifi, and pull out sofa bed. If you turn right, you access the two main bedrooms which are nearly identical. One has a bath tub. The 2 main bedrooms contain queen size beds and a private bathroom, one with a bath tub. The studio apartment and other sleeping room are on a lower level and are reached by steps leading down from the interior terrace to the rooms. The studio apartment has a full size bed, full bathroom, refrigerator, microwave, food preparation surface, small dining table and private terrace. The former library room has a full size pull out sofa, full bath, and private terrace. The 2 main bedrooms and the studio apartment are air conditioned and the entire main floor is designed for great cross ventilation. The garage and laundry area are on the first level. You can reach the beach from either the main or lower level of the house on a private 70 yard path leading directly to the water's edge.

Because Casa de Milagros is a new short term rental, we have no reviews. I encourage to read the reviews for the other homes in Playa Colorada as they mostly speak about the beauty and other amenities of the area. All of that will be the same. What is different is the house and our house is the only one with a 60" lap pool. We promise to provide the same quality services including an available and trustworthy property manager, cooking and catering services, and fishing and day trip guides. We encourage you to consider our home as your are going to love it's laid back style.

About Gail L. Weaver

Casa de Milagros is owned by Gail Weaver and Bill Galt of San Diego, Ca.. Gail is the founder of Lifetime Health Centers of San Diego and Bill is the founder of The Good Earth

restaurant chain. Both Gail and Bill have spent their lives promoting good health and environmental awareness. They chose to built their home in Playa Colorada because of the clear air, clean water, access to organic food, and laid back lifestyle. There is no air pollution, noise pollution, light pollution, or people pollution!

Gail L. Weaver purchased this house in 2003

Why Gail L. Weaver chose La Ribera

Casa de Milagros is a real Mexican beach house, not a luxury villa. That means it was meant to be lived in and simply put, you can enter with wet bathing suits and sandy feet.

It is also very private in that it is at the end of the development with a large swath of undeveloped land next door that contains a rare coastal lagoon that is great for bird watching. The other home near it has a full time caretaker who knows the area well and speaks English.

What makes this house unique

Casa de Milagros is unique in that it has a 60 foot lap pool for those days that the sea is a little rough or for those folks who just do not like swimming in an ocean. The views from the front terrace are a unique combination of sea and mountain.

The main attraction at Casa de Milagros in Playa Colorada is the beach and the inviting Sea of Cortez. You can do almost every water activity on this beach except surf. For many, that is a good thing as the sea is warm, calm, clean, and safe. There is snorkeling within a short distance from the house, but great snorkeling is availabe in Cabo Pulmo Marine Park which is a 30 minute drive from the house. The park is really worth visiting as the drive there is stunning. There are also several small beach side restaurants serving delicious seafood and ice cold drinks.

What an amazing trip!

  • 5 of 5

What a beautiful home in a beautiful country. The house is so clean and comfortable. Right on Playa Colorada. I have not researched this, but I’m sure it’s named this because of the colorful sunsets. A short drive to Cabo Pulmo or Las Barilles. We really can have it all.

Owner's Response: Hello Lisa. thank you for your review and I am glad that you mentioned the location as La Ribera is much less well known than some of the other places in the area and that is part of it´s charm. Actually, it is right in the middle of the East Cape with the Cabo Pulmo National Marine a short drive to the South and Los Barilles, a village very popular with tourists, a short Drive to the North. La Ribera does have fewer tourists which makes the entire area more tranquil and authentically Mexican. Most of our guests have really enjoyed the peace and quiet of the more laid back lifestyle. We would welcome you back anytime in the future . Regards, Gail and Bill

Absolutely perfect.

  • 5 of 5

It is hard to put into words how perfect Bill and Gail's home was for our needs, the area, the weather and what we were wanting in a vacation rental. Everything was was seamless - and what I mean by that is that any time I had a question, Gail was available to respond and provide guidance or confirmation.

The house is prefect in every way, there is enough communal space as well as private space - everyone could retreat and shower when they wished. The pool was a great relief in the heat and we were able to have great fun using the pool toys.

The views are spectacular and there are many spots within the complex to hide from the wind and the sun if you need. There is nothing better than sitting on the front deck enjoying a coffee as the birds go about their day and the sun starts to heat up the air. We love this area as at night you do not need air conditioning or fans as the temperature does go down.

The house has enough of everything to get you going and keep you going as you work on mixing drinks or creating meals. Mexico is hard on appliances however at Casa Milagros everything works aa intended and you never have to "make due". The beds are comfortable, not too soft and not too firm and the furniture is in good repair. As Gail says in the house description, this is a beach house - what I would add is that it is a fabulous beach house.

It was so nice to stroll the beach with no one around as well as have a few beach volleyball and football rallies with a few Sols.

Playa Colorada is spectacular, La Ribera is quaint and growing. We can only hope with the new Four Seasons property under construction, Playa Colorada will remain a quiet sanctuary and we can go back.. Hopefully for longer.

Thank you again for sharing your special house with us.

Owner's Response: Hello Elizabeth, Cochrane, and family. Thank you for your thoughtful review of our house in Playa Colorada, La Ribera. I am grateful that you mentioned several amenities of the area that are hard to portray with photos. The view is spectacular but I have never been able to capture it in a photo due to the placement of the house and the angle of the small sand dunes near the beach. The beach is unique in that is pristine, clean, rock free, and safe. Most beaches with these characteristics are crowded with people and the serenity is compromised with music, boats, and jet skis. Not so for Playa Colorada. You can frequently walk for miles on the beach and never encounter anything other than perhaps another solitary walker, shore birds, and the sound of the waves. This is true during the entire year. I am also pleased that you mentioned that the house is a beach house, not a luxury villa. We wanted to create a home that was comfortable, livable, laid back and environmentally sensitive. With that in mind, the entire main floor of the house has great cross ventilation and the house is solar powered with panels that hook into the grid. Bill and I are very pleased that you had a great vacation and would welcome all of you back again. Regards and best wishes, Gail and Bill

Great value for the rate! Pool is not heated and walls between the main bedrooms are paper thin.

Owner's Response: Hello. thank you for the review of our home. I am glad that you enjoyed walking on our lovely beach which is clean, safe, and rock free. The water is also warm , clear, and safe as the surf is generally calm with no rip tides. Our entire home, including the bedroom walls are constructed of concrete which is true of most of the homes built in Mexico as concrete homes survive the occasional hurricane and wood is very scarce. Unfortunately, concrete does not buffer sound very well. However, this was not a problem for our family and we had two older children sleeping in the next room. The pool is not heated but is comfortably warm 8 months of the year. November through February it is cold for most casual users but warm enough for lap swimmers who build up heat while swimming. We have explored heating it but current technology is both cost prohibitive and environmentally insensitive given the size of the pool. The only pools that I am aware of that are heated in the entire area are either very small dipping pools or hotel pools. In the winter, the Sea of Cortez is always warmer than a pool. The average water temperature in the winter is between 68 and 70. This is great for a quick dip but for a longer swim you might want a light rash guard. I encourage our guests to explore the Sea of Cortez as it is still pristine. A day trip to Cabo Pulmo National Marine Park to snorkle or dive is not to be a missed as it contains the only living reef in the Pacific ocean. Best wishes, Gail and Bill

Beautifully Situated Yards Away From a Wonderful, Uncrowded Beach

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about our five day stay at Casa de Milagros near La Ribera. The house is well-appointed with an up-to-date kitchen. The views from the seaside deck/patio were great and the interior courtyard was quiet and very private. The house is spacious and includes an office. The grounds are very well maintained. The beach is a three minute walk away and is sandy, clean and uncluttered.

Owner's Response: Hello Scott. I am so glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at our home in Playa Colorada near La Ribera in Baja Sur. My husband is an ocean swimmer, so finding a safe, clean, clear, and warm body of water with a beautiful beach was a priority for us when looking for the location of our retirement home. However, most locations that met these requirements are crowded with throngs of tourists, jet skis, and pleasure boats. What makes Playa Colorada so special is that it is still pristine and undiscovered by the masses. You have now joined a select group of people who know about and have personally experienced this special place. We enjoyed having you and your wife as guests and would welcome you back at anytime you want to escape the South Dakota winter. Regards, Gail and Bill

Great stay

We had a great stay on this property. Extra special treat to see a Baja Off Road race right near the house. Short walk to the beach, but had it all to ourselves. Beautiful, remote scenery; well appointed house, great for families or groups.
