About the property

White sand Beach-180 views of lake--7 bdrms and 4 decks-Aug 3rd weekend

Due to cancellation, we will reduce rent 1000 for week of August 3rd. Also, price reduction for off season stays that include 4 weekend nights-Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sundays!

Enjoy dramatic winter lake scenes high atop a dune in cosy luxury home. Enjoy beautiful white sand beach, great outlet shopping or the casino while staying in our Arts and Crafts home perched on a dune with a 180 degree view of the lake. Hang out at the beach just across the street and down the path in summer and in winter, listen to the noises of the lake and enjoy the lake views while sipping wine in warmth and comfort. During the off season, we rent the whole house, or the bottom two floors that sleep 13. Rates are in additional notes in rate section.

We built this 6/7 bedroom Arts and Crafts home with interior woodwork by Michigan artist, an imported tile surround on wood burning fireplace, granite counter tops and large soaking tub in 1999.

The beach is clean white sand used only by the few families living on Lake Shore Drive. This is a residential area and you won't have party houses next door (look for houses from Stop 1-7 if you are coming to party into the night). Enjoy the large deck overlooking the beach and the sunset and the sound of the waves with a glass of wine.

The bed is high end with plush towels and fine linens. The top floor has only the master bedroom and bath a second room on the second floor with a washer and dryer and a queen size futon. THe rest of the bedrooms are below so this is a prize space for being a bit off from the pack. Tall pines line the back of the property with woods across on the other side of the street. Our parking is off the back of the house so don’t worry about having to walk up all the front steps with your things. We have 140 gallons of hot water so you'll never run out. Our cleaners are wonderful. You will feel comfortable here the moment you walk in.

Summer, fall or spring-- it doesn't get better than boy the lake and whether you're enjoying the fall foliage, the summer wild flower or the new spring shoots, the hiking is just outside your door. The sun setting over the lake is visible from most of the rooms in this beach home built in 1999. Come in August for blueberry picking and freeze what you can't eat.

People often think we are in Beach Walk. We are 3/10 of a mile down the beach in the less densely populated area. We do not have a pool. If you are looking for a more private, residential area with a beach shared only by a few families and a home right on Lake Shore Drive with a terrific view then we will be a better fit. Check our reviews.

Take a trip to the casino or catch the bargains at a great outlet mall--both minutes away by car. Run down the steep dune behind the house for a great one and a half hour walk through woods and dune land. Bike down the lake front bike path or to nearby New Buffalo, Michigan or the Indiana National Lake Shore reserve just ten minutes away. Play Ping pong on the back deck or watch the kids playing on the swings.

Great restaurants in town and in nearby Michigan along with great antiquing in Harbort County Michigan. 2 large gas grill on decks and full. Take a day trip to Chicago by convenient train or car and enjoy fine dining and theater- just one hour travel time and come back home to the lake. Enjoy your vacation in comfort.

PS: Can offer special rate for parties of 4 or less to use top two floors only in off seasons. Contact me for more info.

About Marsha Dymzarov

My husband and I love to travel. We love Costa Rica and China among other places. We also love to Kayak and bike ride which makes Michigan City perfect for us as we are on the bike path and the lake. We are a retired teacher and lawyer/small business owner and now enjoy quilting and reading and playing Boggle and we enjoy best of all our time when we are home at the house on the lake.

Marsha Dymzarov purchased this house in 1998

Why Marsha Dymzarov chose Michigan City

We picked this lot for the beautiful view. Designing our home became a second job. We found a beautiful Arts and Crafts door in an artisan's shop in Michigan and the rest of was easy. The wood burning fireplace is perfect on a cold winter's night. The views are just spectacular and we can hear the wave lapping on the shore from the deck. The property is in a quieter less populated area of the beach and we can spread out and enjoy our family with the few other families who live nearby.

What makes this house unique

The moment I walk in the house and hear the waves on the lake and see the beach, I feel calm. The beach and checking out the beach houses offers beautiful sights to make walks and bike rides feel effortless. The Lighthouse Mall is as a wonderful distraction as are walking along the lake and the Casino..

Guestbook comments from the owner

The home was incredible! Beautiful location. Pictures don't do it justice.

Great location, large, clean, fun, family house

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay at this beautiful home and we thoroughly enjoyed it once again. The home is updated, all appliances work, beds are comfortable and it fits our entire family. Marsha, the owner responds quickly, is fair and accommodating. The views are amazing as you grill out and enjoy dinner, breakfast or just a cocktail to relax. There is plenty of room for children and adults with swing sets in the yard to beach chairs for the lake. It is a short walk to the shores of Lake Michigan where there is privacy to enjoy the beautiful lakefront and sand. We have been going to Michigan City as a family for the last 7 years. This house is the first we have found that we hope to utilize in many more annual family vacations. Thank you!

Fantastic family holiday rental

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 16 goes to MI city annually for a holiday weekend for the last 8 years. Every year we've rented a different house until this year. We had such a fantastic stay in this beautiful, charming, cozy rental that fits 17, that we went back again this year. And it didn't disappoint. Beautiful space, lots of room, spacious bedrooms, enough bathrooms and 3 decks with awesome views!!! And the owner is very attentive and low key!! We're headed back again next year!

From the well stocked kitchen, amazing views, comfortable beds, easy lakefront access and fun yard for the kids to play....our family of 15+ only wished we could stay a couple of days longer.

This home fit our large family perfectly. And we loved checking out New Buffalo and the best ice cream at Oink.

Already planning to come back next year!

We were all extremely impressed with the property, the cleanliness, location and décor. I can not say enough about how helpful Marsh and her husband were. We would highly recommend this rental to families or larger groups. We ranged in age from 4months to 70 with several teenagers and everyone had a great time. Thank you for allowing us to stay in your lovely home!!

Amazing Getaway Weekend

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about this home, what a hidden jem in the cliffs. The entire house was prestinley cleaned upon our arrival, the kitchen and amenities of this home could not be beat! We had a group of couples that came for a long weekend from Chicago, and two of the men were chefs, they were in heaven with Marsha's kitchen! We had wonderfully cooked breakfasts and dinners with the most amazing views of lake Michigan. We spent our Saturday on the beach with perfect weather, it was such a close walk, and like our own private beach! They had all of the chairs we could have needed waiting for us on the beach, making the walk down to the beach a breeze! It being a four story home made it so nice and remote, when you were on the bottom floor, you had no idea what the floors above you were doing, it was so quiet and relaxing! We would love to make this a yearly tradition, it was truly wonderful, and such a quick hour trip from Chicago! Thanks for making everything so easy Marsha!!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your lovely review. I put my heart into designing the house. Our family has been on the beach since 1936 down the block and I wanted our house to serve not only as a place my husband and I would treasure as our home, but also serve as the old house did, as a place where the extended family could get together. When we started renting the downstairs, we were delighted that others could share also. With the birth of a grandson in Wisconsin, this year we opened up the whole house. It is really affirming to know that you and your friends enjoyed the house as much as we do. Thank-you again for your kind words.

The perfect place to relax

  • 5 of 5

We loved the home and the location. With three decks overlooking Lake Michigan and a perfect view of the sunset what else could you ask for? The home has been very nicely appointed and decorated. This rental is everything the listing claims! The beach is VERY nice; we were not expecting it to be so nice.

Keep in mind that this is a four story home. So older folks with some mobility issues may struggle with all the stairs. But the stairs are very wide with good lighting. The only modest disappointment was the state of the outdoor areas. The lower two decks and some other outdoor areas could use a good power washing. But with mere hours between renters, I'm not sure when they would do that! There were a few more weeds and straggly grass than I would expect for this price point. But these issues are very minor and are far outweighed by the location and the beautiful and spacious interior. We are definitely thinking of coming again next year!

Marsha was VERY easy to work with, PROMPT, and ACCOMODATING. All-in-all an excellent property and an excellent experience.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind review. Yes, there are steps. My husband and I just leave the bottom floor to the kids and spend our time on two floors-bedroom and main floor. There's still getting to the beach. If we're feeling lazy we take the car to the lake side of the house and drive back up to avoid the steps. I think about doing it often, but usually end up walking anyway. I admit, the yard is a challenge. We try to get folks out to keep it up, but it is an ongoing struggle. Someone was there right after you left. Wish it was before. Thanks again for your lovely review and taking such good care of our house.

RESTAURANTS: Trattoria Tonelli is on Franklin and we thought it was worthy of fine food anywhere. Get there early on the weekends. Swing Belly’s is a great place for Hamburgers, perch, BLTs and the like. It is on Route 12 by Karwick Plaza about 5 minutes away. Maxines is on Franklin up from the library for fine dining. The Lakeshore Coffee house across from the Lighthouse Mall has great breakfast and lunches, coffee and sweets. The Duneland Beach Inn is off of Lake Shore Drive going towards Michigan and has a nice atmosphere and good food. There are several fine restaurants in New Buffalo including Skip's Steak House, Terrace Room at The Harbor Grand and Hannah's. New Buffalo is about 12 miles away and can make for a nice bike ride if you have time. There is a wonderful bakery, Truffles, on Franklin Street - the main drag. They sell most of their desserts in tart sizes as well. There is Bridges Lakeside off of Route 12 just before the Casino for hamburgers type food. There are guides to Michigan City and Michigan for your use and the following link has a listing of restaurants with a map.

SHOPPING: The Chelsea Premium at 608-224-1668. We are always happy to help.

Lighthouse Mall has great buys. They have a pamphlet that can save you additional money. line and join the Chelsea outlet Premier Club and get the books for free along with some great additional discount coupons. If you go out 12 heading east to Michigan and the Red Arrow highway, you will find lots of antique stores and art galleries between New Buffalo and Sawyer. There are numerous magazines and pamphlets with tons of other things to do in the area. There is a very nice grocery called Al's -head about two miles east of the house to STOP 22, turn right and follow the road to the light. Al's is to your right on Rte 12 just before the light. There is also an Al’s on the main drag-Franklin St/421. There is a Farmer's Market on Saturday morning near the outlet mall and a health food at the juncture of 20 and Franklin called Nature's cupboard.

RECREATION: If you go out the back door and turn left on the street you will see a path up the dune at the top of the street. If you go up here, there are marvelous views and a great run down the sand dune to a path that winds through a prairie, into woods and finally out onto a street in about 1.5 miles. We usually walk back on the beach. Take the path to the left when your back is to the dune for the long walk. The Indiana Dunes National LakeShore is not far and there are many lovely trails many ending up at the lake nearby.

There is an 18 hole golf course in Michigan City see:

Additional information about rental rates

Property Damage Protection C$75.62
Pass through to Cleaners C$480.64

Explanation of additional person charge: In an attempt to make the house more affordable to smaller groups, we manipulated the fees so that the charge for a full house would remain the same we always charge, but the rates for smaller groups would be less. Its a bit confusing but it works. Please make sure we know your actual number as we set out linens and cleaners need to know who is coming before each booking.

Rent 4 weekend nights (Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) and I will send a special offer reducing your quoted rate by $250.

If you prefer to pay $500 refundable deposit (assuming no damages and we've never in 20 years charged anyone for damages) in stead of $59 charge for insurance, let me know.

Pass through to cleaners for whole house is 375. For tenants of 4 or less using top two floors only, cleaning fee is 185. Linens included in cleaning fee.

Will not rent for less than 800 for a stay.

All holidays are 3 days minimum stay.
