Charming place but negligence abound

  • 2 of 5

This charming cabin had all the makings of a fantastic getaway - that said, there were several factors which negatively affected our stay. Upon arrival, the cabin had a strong smell of gas. When we attempted to turn the gas fire place on, the gas smell got significantly worse and the pilot did not catch. I called the property management company and they proceeded to walk me through the directions on how to turn the stove on. I relayed to them that we had tried this multiple times and it still was not working and the gas smell was getting stronger. They said they would have to call someone else. We then attempted to turn the stove top to make dinner, but the flame on that was tiny and essentially turned off after ten minutes. At this point, I figured the gas reserve had run out and I relayed such to the property managers. They nicely apologized but said no one could come out until the following day. This meant no fire place and no stove top cooking. We also tried to do the dishes in the dishwasher but apparently a piece was broken and therefore the dishwasher was unusable. We also attempted to play some of the games available, but many of them were missing pieces and unplayable.

The next day the managers determined there was a gas leak outside. I understand that this was not the fault of anyone particularly, but the fact that the cleaners or folks checking on the cabin did not identify this earlier is a little worrisome. In addition, the management company only offered a $50 discount, which I found unfair given the lack of gas. After pointing this out, they offered another $50 which was, "not their typical policy." So again, a charming place with a great hot tub and fun ambience, but negligence abound.

Owner's Response: Hello Annie! Thank you so much for being our guest at Red Hawk Hideaway, and we appreciate you sharing your feedback with us. During the colder months, propane usage does increase quite a bit and our regular servicing cannot always keep up. We are so sorry this resulted in an inconvenience to you and had such an impact on your stay. We will work into remedying this for future winter seasons, and will also revisit our refund policy given your frustrating experience. The dishwasher has been fixed and we will look into replacing the board games with some newer more complete versions. Repairs and maintenance ARE needed at times in our mountain cabins, but we always strive to handle them as safely as possible in a way that inconveniences our guests at an absolute minimum. We're very glad to hear that you still enjoyed the many charms of the property and hope you will give us another chance to provide you with a fantastic North Cascades getaway! All our best, Mysty Mountain Properties
