About the property

Dixie's River Retreat is a unique and beautiful mountain oasis perfect for your next North Cascades vacation! Tucked along the Skykomish River, surrounded by trees and lush greenery, it's the ideal location to relax and unwind from your city stresses and cares. Step inside and be greeted by the gorgeous fir floors, high end finishes, and spacious light-filled layout. The kitchen is a work of art, from the large apron sink to the new granite countertops, and offers plenty of space to prepare family-style meals for your whole crew. Also on the main floor, you will find a spacious living room/dining room to seat everyone in comfort, with an enormous wall of windows to let the light pour in.

The living room offers a flatscreen TV, plenty of board games, and a huge movie collection with something to please everyone! There are two cozy bedrooms downstairs, one with a queen bed and the other with two twins. A fully refinished bathroom and laundry area are situated nearby as well. Upstairs, in the spacious open loft, the master bedroom resides along with a beautiful ensuite bath with a large walk-in shower for ultimate luxury and comfort. A full-size futon completes the master bedroom loft space and brings the total guest count to a maximum of 8. Note: this master bedroom space is not enclosed.

In addition to all the fantastic amenities, Dixie's River Retreat features immediate access to the Skykomish - with new custom-built steps leading right to the river - and breathtaking views of the mountainous surroundings. While Highway 2 is close to the property and there is occasional traffic noise (see our photos to view proximity to the Stevens Pass Highway), a fully fenced dog run in the yard allows pooches to play freely, and the view from the back of the home over the lush yard towards the river is as serene and peaceful as it gets. No neighbors are within view of the home, so you will enjoy the privacy as well as the beauty that this mountain cabin has to offer. Perfect proximity to all the nearby recreation - skiing, snowboarding or mountain biking at Stevens Pass, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at the Nordic Center, river rafting and rock climbing in Index, and all the best hikes in the region - is another huge plus that your friends and family will love. The Baviarian village of Leavenworth is also just a little over an hour's drive away, which makes for a quick and easy day trip! All in all, this home has the luxury, comfort, and prime location you are looking for in your next mountain vacation.

Traveling with a bigger group? Another beautiful cabin - Sky River's Edge ( is only one-tenth of a mile away!

***Please Note: Dixie's River Retreat is located near Stevens Pass along the Skykomish River, which is an historic area for the Great Northern Railroad. Trains still pass near the cabin to this day (the railroad tracks are located just on the other side of Hwy 2) and this can create some noise, but our cabin owners and guests alike find it to be a charming aspect of the home and the area.***

Train too loud, too close

  • 2 of 5

the house was very nice, clean and had beautiful views of the river/mountains. the only thing we did not like was 1) route 2 is a very busy highway and less than 100 yards from the home which created a lot of noise day and night. 2) there are train tracks <300 yards from the house and the train runs day/night, several during the night in fact which last as long as 5mins. in the winter I don't think these are issues as you would have the windows closed and the noise would not be so bad, but in the summer time since the house has no A/C you need the windows open. at times the traffic and train were so loud we could barely hear the TV must less carry a conversation. we ended up leaving 2 nights early cause we could not get any sleep ( supposed to stay 5 nights). the rental company tried helping us but were unable to refund the amount of nights we wanted, so we ended up leaving even though we had to pay.

Owner's Response: Hello Brian! Appreciate the feedback and I'm sorry the stay was less than ideal for you. We do include the following information in the listing, as well as labeled photos of the train/highway proximity: "Please Note: Dixie's River Retreat is located near Stevens Pass along the Skykomish River, which is an historic area for the Great Northern Railroad. Trains still pass near the cabin to this day (the railroad tracks are located just on the other side of Hwy 2) and this can create some noise, but our cabin owners and guests alike find it to be a charming aspect of the home and the area." We definitely want to be transparent that road and train noise is possible while staying at the home. Again, we're sorry you departed early and we would love to have you back at another cabin in the future!

Good place for a mountain getaway

  • 3 of 5

Beautiful house, grounds and view. Great location. Well-stocked and clean. Be aware that there's no wifi or landline and limited cell service. The river access is not swimming friendly but there's a fantastic swimming hole half a mile west on highway 2. Overall a good choice for a mountain getaway.

Best place to relax and disconnect

  • 5 of 5

I chose Dixie's River Retreat for an annual guys getaway because we needed to find a place big enough for all of us and my dog Arnold and our snowboarding gear. It did NOT disappoint. In addition to the place being pristine upon arrival, there was plenty of space for all of us, and the bedrooms were even bigger than expected. The kitchen was great for cooking big group meals; it was well stocked, well designed and the appliances seemed practically brand new. If you're looking for a place with great views of the Skykomish and surrounding mountains, that's close to Steven's Pass AND is also dog friendly, then this is it!

Ideal location for our mountain adventure

  • 5 of 5

We rented this cabin for our yearly spring trip up to Stevens Pass and are so happy we did. The dogs so loved the fenced dog run area and our kids loved exploring the river banks. My son is crazy for trains so he was thrilled every time he heard them go by, maybe twice a day. It couldn't have been more convenient for skiing and there seemed to be plenty of great hikes nearby as well which we will have to check out next time. Loved the Bigfoot themed espresso stand close by as well, forget what it was called but worth checking out. There were games to play, everyone had their own space and that view was just incredible. We will definitely be back!

Overall relaxing stay with only a couple of setbacks.

  • 4 of 5

Upon arrival to the home we were very impressed with the look, feel, space, size, cleanliness, and furnishings. However there are some things I wish I had known. The house was 45 degrees inside when we arrived at 4pm. We were expecting there to be firewood because I had read something in the terms that mentioned firewood would be provided in homes with indoor fireplaces/wood stoves. However the wording actually stated that it would only be provided in homes that had indoor fire as the only source of heat. We found the thermostat and turned on the "central heat". They were these modern style wall heaters that did not do a whole lot. Luckily we found space heaters that we were able to turn on. Around 8pm we were absolutely freezing (by this point it was still only about 55 degrees inside), so we wanted to go get firewood. The problem was that we had no cell signal and no wifi to see where the nearest open store was. There was a huge storm going on outside and we were not really wanting to drive around aimlessly. We ended up just heading up the highway and found a store. Once we got the fire started the house heated up much quicker. By 9pm it was 59 degrees.. woohoo! The wifi was not a deal breaker because it was actually kind of nice not having the 13 and 15 year old that were in our group on their phones the whole time, but it would have been nice to know that there was no wifi, so we could have planned our days out better prior to arrival. I was; however, expecting that there would be no cell signal. The house was pretty well stocked with games movies, and kitchen stuff (there are no measuring cups or spoons, so if you will be needing those plan ahead, we winged it). The views from the home were beautiful. I loved opening the door and listening to the river. The train across the street was bothering pretty much everybody in the house but myself at night. It was pretty loud, but I thought it was kind of cool. I guess that's because I sleep like a rock. All of the light sleepers were not as impressed as I was. Really the only issue that we had was the fact that the property manager didn't turn the heat on prior to our arrival and it took 6 hours to get the house even remotely warm. But that is why I am writing this review to let people know that in the winter months be prepared with firewood upon arrival.

Owner's Response: Hi Christy, thanks so much for being our guest at Dixie's River Retreat and sharing your experience! We're delighted you enjoyed the cabin and those views. I agree with you that the train is a charming part of the experience and we are sure to let guests know in advance that it passes close to the home so there are no surprises. With regard to the heat in the home, we touched base with our cleaning team as the heat is not supposed to be left below 60 degrees at any time. Generally they are very good about making sure of this, especially in winter, and we are very sorry for the oversight! Glad you were able to locate firewood and get the home nice and cozy. We would have been happy to run some over to you as well. If you stay with us again in the future, and we hope you do, just give us a call and we'll take care of it. We enjoyed having you as our guest, many thanks again! Cheers, Mysty Mountain Properties
