About the property

Beautiful Suite Overlooking Horse Paddock In Private Location

Cedar Meadows Cottage is a one bedroom fully renovated suite with a full kitchen, shower room, open plan sitting and dining area and parking for one car. There is also a sauna attached to the suite. Large windows overlook one of the paddocks and there is a garden area with a fish pond which catches the sun for most of the day together with a BBQ. The garden is fully fenced and very private.

Please note that the property is a small 'hobby' farm and we do have chickens, rabbits, cats, dogs and horses. Our chickens are allowed to roam around the property during the day.

The property on which the suite is located is 5.5 acres and has a horse barn, riding ring and short trail. Being surrounded by forest makes this suite very private for two people. Located on the North End of Salt Spring Island, close to Fernwood Dock and Cafe, which is around a 30-40 minute walk with beach access.

On arrival there will be a basket of fresh local produce waiting for you including milk, bread and eggs from our own hens. In the Winter we provide logs for the wood burning stove to make a very cozy retreat.

The suite is located in a separate building to the main house across the driveway.

About Samantha Clarkson

We are Samantha and Phil and are originally from the UK. We moved to Canada 6 years ago and to Saltspring 3 years ago.

Samantha Clarkson purchased this cottage in 2014

Why Samantha Clarkson chose Southern Gulf Islands

We decided on this property because we wanted to keep horses. It has a riding ring and horse barn and we have since built a chicken coop, renovated the suite and are busy renovating the house. The property has a short trail which is nice to walk or to cool down the horses after exercise.

Peaceful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

The drive to and the place itself is amazing. Great view of horses right from the living room. The animals are very friendly and come and say hi. The drive in to town only takes about 10 min so quick runs in to town are very easy. I highly recommend checking this place out.

An amazing cottage - spotlessly clean and beautifully furnished and decorated. A private outdoor space, with a lovely fish pond, a BBQ and even a private sauna! So great to have a fully equipped kitchen too. I would recommend this place to any and everyone! Samantha personally greeted us, a nice personal touch, and left us an amazing welcome gift basket of goodies - local wine, tea, fresh eggs from her chickens, freshly baked bread and more besides! This place is even better than the pics show. Thank you Sam and Phil!

A Wonderful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in September at Cedar Meadows cottage. It was a lovely, quiet and relaxing holiday. The cottage was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. We cooked many of our meals there and really appreciated the welcome basket of fresh eggs, strawberries, jam and teas.

Samantha and Phil were friendly and gracious hosts. They were there if we needed anything, but otherwise gave us complete privacy.

nice escape to the countryside

  • 4 of 5

This is a very pretty little cottage, with a nice outdoor patio with comfortable chairs and hammock to loaf in. We enjoyed the lovely eggs, bread, wine and tea that Sam very kindly provided. With a bbq and full kitchen this is a great place to relax and read and just stay put. Sam was lovely to deal with - after an initial conversation she just let us be, although she was quick to answer what few questions we had and arrived mid-week with fresh towels. It was too hot to be tempted to use the nice sauna, but it would be a very welcome amenity in the rainy months - the entrance is quite private. Highly recommend a stroll along the water and rocky outcrops in Ruckle park, a visit to the wineries and cidery, Saturday market, and swimming in St. Mary lake.

Lovely cottage!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is well equipped with all that you need and the space is private and quiet. The welcome basket was very thoughtful and generous! The fresh eggs were delicious! We enjoyed looking out at the trees and relaxing in the space. Our host gave us helpful suggestions and was engaging but also gave us privacy. The owner had to go overseas unexpectedly but we were well looked after by her friend!

fantastic getaway

  • 5 of 5

The carriage house is situated on a small farm on the north end of the island. The peace and quiet (aside from a ruffling horse) provided a much needed decompression. The suite is well-appointed, with the kitchen having most everything needed to cook a proper meal (the fresh eggs were delicious!) , and quite comfy. The outdoor space is private, with comfy reading chairs, a hammock, and koi pond. Tranquility is lying on the hammock, reading, looking up at cedars, and napping. I'm already trying to plot my return visit for another recharge!

Owner's Response: Hi Lisa, Thank you for your kind review. We very much enjoyed meeting you and your lovely little dog and very pleased to hear you got the apple trees you were looking for!! We very much look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Oh, and I have taken your advice and added directions from all ferry terminals on the island to our information sheet!! Thank you for the tip! Samantha
