Additional Information on Prince Edward County and the Village of Wellington:

Prince Edward County, affectionately known to the locals as The County is a large island in the northern part of Lake Ontario, Ontario, Canada. Situated approximately halfway between Toronto and Ottawa and south of Belleville, Wellington is in the heart of the County. Located on the water, Wellington’s crowning glory … guests can swim, windsurf, kayak, canoe, sail etc., fish, walk along the boardwalk, or climb the rocks around the lighthouse. The Wellyside Suite is situated at the corner of Main and Beach Streets and so the Wellington Beach is seconds away. Feel like exploring other beaches? North Beach Provincial Park is a 15 minute drive away. Sandbanks Provincial Park, which features the world’s largest fresh water sand dune system, is also 15 minutes away. A Provincial Park Pass is included for the duration of your stay.

The County’s cuisine is second to none and Wellington’s best eateries are no exception. It’s a 5 minute walk to fine dining at The Drake Devonshire Inn, East & Main Bistro, and Pomodoro. More casual fare can be had at The Tall Poppy Cafe, Duke of Wellington Eatery & Pub, Dari Bar & Grill, or Rock ’in Rogers Pizzeria. For night time entertainment, Stache piano lounge has just opened.

Wellington’s location in the heart of Prince Edward County’s wine region and its 30+ wineries and vineyards makes wine touring very accessible. Half a dozen wineries are within cycling distance, and many others are 5 -10 minutes away by car. Formal wine tours with chauffeur driven limos or buses can also be arranged.

The County is fast becoming known for its vibrant artistic community. Talented artists and artisans from all disciplines have been setting up galleries and studios and making the County their home. From painters to glass blowers, photographers, ceramists and sculptors, the list is diverse and doesn’t stop with the visual arts. Theatre, music festivals, and clubs like the Dakota’s Hayloft Dancehall, Active Arts Studio, The Agrarian, and The Acoustic Grill where many Juno award winners have played their stage, all join in making the arts community an important part of life in the County for both tourists and residents.

Cycling and running have also grown in popularity in the County. The relatively flat terrain and quiet back roads makes both not only safe but a great way to sightsee. Annually, Wellington hosts The County Marathon with its 42.2 km run. If bird watching is your thing the Prince Edward Point Observatory has trails mapped out at Long Point and Point Traverse. Picnicking, hiking, cross country skiing, ski-doing, sea-doing, whatever your interests, visiting the County is the perfect rural setting to unwind and get away from it all.
