A piece of paradise in a private farm setting!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived in the dark, due to late flights, but woke up to the most incredible view in a private setting. Ryan & Lisa have made their piece of paradise magical and lovely. They are perfect hosts and we were well taken care of during our stay. The bed was very comfortable, and the whole property is in such a private setting, you truly feel away from it all. Traffic to town was a bit slower, due to highway construction so plan accordingly for travel back to the airport. You will not regret hiding away at this property. And Big Island Bees just down the road is a do not miss apiary and beekeeping museum. Aloha and enjoy!

Restful and comfortable!!!

  • 5 of 5

The owners have created a welcoming and comfortable vacation home where their guests can enjoy the beauty of the Kona coast. It is exceptionally quiet and clean with a gorgeous distant ocean view. The apartment is well stocked with kitchen, bathroom and beach supplies along with books, games and dvds. The furniture is comfortable and the queen sized bed devine. The surrounding gardens attract song birds and butterflies. There are comfy chairs on the patios and in the shaded garden to enjoy the outdoors. Watching the sunset with fresh juice and macadamia nuts from the orchard was a delight.

Ryan and Lisa were warm and generous with their time while respectful of our privacy. Ryan offered a farm tour where we learned about nut and fruit production in the tropics. This dear couple obviously love what they do. As their guests we benefited from their gifted creativity...thank you Ryan and Lisa! Your home tops our vacation rental experiernces. We highly recommend this BEAUTIFUL farm.

Lovely, Peaceful, Friendly,

  • 5 of 5

We had the fortunate opportunity to stay in Ryan and Lisa’s lovely generous studio with sleeping alcove. Ryan and Lisa have done a wonderful job appointing the apartment. We really lacked for nothing. The lovely view of the ocean, the provided beach chairs, snorkel gear, beach towels, made our daily trips to the beach so much more enjoyable. A provided binder of suggestions of the best that the Captain Cook area has to offer informed our stay . With fresh provided Papaya , avocados, pineapples, bananas, fresh squeezed tangelo juice, and macadamia nuts, really what more would someone be looking for? And if that were not enough a very well done farm tour. This is why my wife and I prefer to stay with local people. Incite. Two enthusiastic thumbs up to Ryan and Lisa. Come and enjoy!!! Incredibly Gracious

  • 5 of 5

I booked a week with Lisa and Ryan for my parents to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary after reading so many positive reviews. My parents had a wonderful time and Lisa and Ryan were as gracious and welcoming as the other reviews attested to. They went to the trouble of purchasing groceries for my parents' first day since they arrived in the evening; they prepared a welcome basket of wine and coffee; they shared the bounty of delicious fruits growing on their property. Amazing!

Needless to say, my parents had a wonderful time and were so enamored with their time on the Big Island that they spent much of their vacation looking for a 2nd home.

Highly recommend!

We loved our stay at Good Karma Farm! Lisa and Ryan are wonderful hosts, from answering questions via email prior to our stay, to great recommendations while we were there. The bright and airy apartment had everything we needed to feel at home. The view from the patio is amazing, we watched beautiful sunsets every evening. The location is a great home base to see the island. If you want to be away from the crowds, this is the perfect location!

Loved It

  • 5 of 5

This was by far the best place that we have stayed in our half dozen trips to the Islands. Ryan and Lisa have created a unique and pleasant sanctuary in paradise that is both conveniently close to and yet pleasantly far away from conventional vacation experiences (beaches, local shops/vibe/atmosphere, crowds, etc). If you want to sit on the patio all day with a cooler full of liquid libations enjoying the sounds of nature, the view of the ocean and a good book, this place is for you. Or, if you want to start with morning coffee in the ornamental garden, hit it hard and take in all the island has to offer during the day, and then return home to your private space for a relaxing evening free from the noises of the city, this place is for you too.

We thoroughly enjoyed Ryan's personal guided tour of the farm grounds. It gave us a new appreciation for both the grown products that we enjoy as well as the folks that work hard to provide them for us. Lisa's personality is one of genuine warmth and appreciation. Together, they were attentive to our needs yet intuitively respectful of our privacy.

It is very apparent that Ryan and Lisa put much through into creating this tasteful unit. Quality and attention to detail were continually revealed throughout the unit and our stay. The kitchen had everything we needed and was even stocked with popcorn and popper :). They also provide complete sets of quality snorkel gear, beach bags, grass mats, chairs, beach towels, and even a couple of cozies. We had everything we needed.

Looking forward to our next visit.

About Ryan & Lisa Kingry

Aloha! Before we were full time residents to the Island, we had been coming to South Kona so often we just started calling it "home" the second the plane touched down. During all of our visits, we stayed in numerous rentals, all the while making a list of what we liked and didn't like, knowing internally that someday we would have a rental of our own here. We have since put all of those notes and ideas into Pukalani! We love being Farmers, the Island way of life, growing our own food and living off the land. We also love making people have an awesome Island experience - hence giving you Pukalani so you too can experience what (and how) we live, if even for a short period of time. We appreciate your interest in staying with Us!

Ryan & Lisa Kingry purchased this guest house in 2015

Why Ryan & Lisa Kingry chose Captain Cook

When renovating and putting together Pukalani, our #1 goal was to make it 'top notch' in everything - our "Dream Rental" if you will. So many times you stay at a place that while 'once' was probably nice, over the years of having a caretaker manage it, it just kind of got run down. Since we live on site, it is US who take care of and clean and prepare Pukalani for your visit, paying attention to every last detail to ensure your home away from home is everything (and more) that it needs to be. Our promise to you is that whether you are a first time guest or returning soon-to-be-resident like us, our dedication will remain the same and you won't be disappointed with your stay.

What makes this guest house unique

Secluded and quiet, our site location allows you to rest and relax after enjoying all that West Kona has to offer... We live on site to provide attentive service for our guests morning or night. The views from the lanai are so amazing you will never forget the sunsets here. Enjoy morning yoga or coffee in the lush ornamental/meditation garden, then drive only 8 minutes to the nearest beach - famous Kealakekua Bay. Stop off at the farmers market to pick up local fare and cook dinner in your fully stocked kitchen (or grill on your gas BBQ on your patio) and relax in the evening during a perfect sunset. We grow more than a dozen types of fruit on the property, so depending on which time of year you visit and what is in season, you get to share in our bounty of fresh fruit.
