About Ryan & Lisa Kingry
Aloha! Before we were full time residents to the Island, we had been coming to South Kona so often we just started calling it "home" the second the plane touched down. During all of our visits, we stayed in numerous rentals, all the while making a list of what we liked and didn't like, knowing intuitively that someday we would have a rental of our own here on this beautiful island. We have since put all of those notes and ideas into Pukalani! We love being Farmers, the Island way of life, growing our own food and living off the land. We also love giving our guests an awesome Island experience - hence giving you Pukalani so you too can experience what (and how) we live, if even for a short period of time. We appreciate your interest in staying with Us!

Why Ryan & Lisa Kingry chose Captain Cook
When renovating and putting together Pukalani, our #1 goal was to make your experience seamless from arrival to departure. Since we live on site, we personally take care of, clean and prepare Pukalani for your visit, paying attention to EVERY last detail to ensure your home away from home is everything (and more) that it needs to be. Also providing you both privacy and attentive service at your request. Our promise to you is that whether you are a first time guest or returning soon-to-be-resident like us, our dedication will remain the same and you won't be disappointed with your stay.
What makes this Guest House unique
Secluded and quiet, our site location allows you to rest and relax after enjoying all that our unique island has to offer... The views from the lanai are so amazing you will never forget the sunsets here. Enjoy morning yoga or coffee in the lush ornamental/meditation garden, then drive only 8 minutes to the nearest beach - famous Kealakekua Bay. Travel just a few minutes more and you are at "Two Steps" (snorkeling spot) beside Place of Refuge National Park. Stop off at the farmers market to pick up local fare and cook dinner in your fully stocked kitchen (or grill on your gas BBQ on your patio) and relax in the evening during a perfect sunset. We grow more than a dozen types of fruit on the property, so depending on which time of year you visit and what is in season, you get to share in our abundance of fresh fruit.

A BIG BOWL FULL OF AWESOME!!!
From beginning to end, top to bottom, and everything in between -- Pukalani is fabulous and a major highlight of our trip to the Big Island. The property is a lovely piece of paradise tucked away from the tourist/resort areas; tranquil & lush setting with a gorgeous view of the ocean (which is also the view from the bed no less!) -- kind of like a tropical version of Mendocino County in California. The rental itself is comfortable, clean, and well-maintained -- a nice balance of providing quality necessities (the mattress is heavenly) and wonderful touches of spa-like details (e.g. the SoHa Living diffuser in the bathroom -- pleasant & light background scent and not overwhelming). Ryan & Lisa are gracious, generous, fun, and personable hosts; and were very respectful of our privacy. We had a great time learning from Ryan on his tour of the property about the farm, growing & processing macadamia nuts, and the variety of fruits grown on the property -- some fruits we had never heard of before; and all the ones we had the benefit of enjoying were DEEEE-licious!! All-around an awesome stay -- Thank you, Ryan & Lisa!!!
The pictures don't do it justice...just beautiful...
A great place to launch from to explore the island. Really great location and owner was always available for anything we might need. Very peaceful place to stay.
A wonderful stay.
We spent 6 days at the end of April. Ryan and Lisa could not have been better hosts. From the basket of fresh fruit (from their farm) on arrival, to the very informative tour that Ryan gave of their farm operation for us and our friends, to the lovely accommodations with a comfy bed, well stocked kitchen, and the most amazing binder on all the flora and fauna of the area. They provided a binder with lots of information on the the sites and restaurants in the area and Ryan was around to answer any questions. Ryan even went out his way to ensure we could find the TV channel to watch Playoff hockey. Many options for things to do close by, from beaches, to restaurants, to sites and a few shops to buy groceries. Don't forget to get your macadamia nuts before you go, better than any others we tasted.
lovely and secluded, immersed in wild natural Hawaii
Very peaceful, beautiful place and wonderfully decorated.
Lovely apartment in Captain Cook
Wonderful place to stay - hosts very helpful and welcoming. Clean, well furnished, beautiful view out over the macadamia nut trees to the ocean far below. Couldn’t be nicer.
A piece of paradise in a private farm setting!
We arrived in the dark, due to late flights, but woke up to the most incredible view in a private setting. Ryan & Lisa have made their piece of paradise magical and lovely. They are perfect hosts and we were well taken care of during our stay. The bed was very comfortable, and the whole property is in such a private setting, you truly feel away from it all. Traffic to town was a bit slower, due to highway construction so plan accordingly for travel back to the airport. You will not regret hiding away at this property. And Big Island Bees just down the road is a do not miss apiary and beekeeping museum. Aloha and enjoy!
