About Ryan & Lisa Kingry
Aloha! Before we were full time residents to the Island, we had been coming to South Kona so often we just started calling it "home" the second the plane touched down. During all of our visits, we stayed in numerous rentals, all the while making a list of what we liked and didn't like, knowing intuitively that someday we would have a rental of our own here on this beautiful island. We have since put all of those notes and ideas into Pukalani! We love being Farmers, the Island way of life, growing our own food and living off the land. We also love giving our guests an awesome Island experience - hence giving you Pukalani so you too can experience what (and how) we live, if even for a short period of time. We appreciate your interest in staying with Us!
Ryan & Lisa Kingry purchased this Guest House in 2015
Why Ryan & Lisa Kingry chose Captain Cook
When renovating and putting together Pukalani, our #1 goal was to make your experience seamless from arrival to departure. Since we live on site, we personally take care of, clean and prepare Pukalani for your visit, paying attention to EVERY last detail to ensure your home away from home is everything (and more) that it needs to be. Also providing you both privacy and attentive service at your request. Our promise to you is that whether you are a first time guest or returning soon-to-be-resident like us, our dedication will remain the same and you won't be disappointed with your stay.
What makes this Guest House unique
Secluded and quiet, our site location allows you to rest and relax after enjoying all that our unique island has to offer... The views from the lanai are so amazing you will never forget the sunsets here. Enjoy morning yoga or coffee in the lush ornamental/meditation garden, then drive only 8 minutes to the nearest beach - famous Kealakekua Bay. Travel just a few minutes more and you are at "Two Steps" (snorkeling spot) beside Place of Refuge National Park. Stop off at the farmers market to pick up local fare and cook dinner in your fully stocked kitchen (or grill on your gas BBQ on your patio) and relax in the evening during a perfect sunset. We grow more than a dozen types of fruit on the property, so depending on which time of year you visit and what is in season, you get to share in our abundance of fresh fruit.

The unit was very nice - very comfortable bed. Ryan and Lisa provided a lot of beach supplies - umbrella, boogie boards, snorkel gear, cooler and beach towels. Lots of fresh fruit on offer. :)
Ryan and Lisa were friendly and helpful, but not intrusive.
Best VRBO we have ever stayed
Pukalani was a dream! The attention to detail was amazing! Spotlessly clean. Stocked with anything you could need. Privacy, views, comfortable bed , gracious hosts. Fresh fruit, personal welcome, gardens... the list goes on and on
Wonderful stay in a beautiful place
We had a great time in Ryan and Lisa’s place. The space was thoughtfully and comfortably furnished and equipped, and immaculately clean. The beach chairs, snorkeling equipment etc were all top quality. The sunset views were spectacular, and The garden was a beautiful place for morning coffee. Hope we get to come back.
Gorgeous Retreat - Peaceful and Great Accomodations!
We stayed at Ryan and Lisa's Pukalani house over New Years! The house was peaceful, had ocean views, the gardens/grounds were impeccable, and Ryan and Lisa were extremely accommodating!
The house was very clean, beautifully furnished, and had more than enough space for the two of us to enjoy the residence. Ditch the resorts and head down South to this amazing spot - you won't regret it!
We found all sorts of great spots in the area: beaches, kayaking to the Captain Cook monument, snorkeling, poke, BBQ, and golf!

A BIG BOWL FULL OF AWESOME!!!
From beginning to end, top to bottom, and everything in between -- Pukalani is fabulous and a major highlight of our trip to the Big Island. The property is a lovely piece of paradise tucked away from the tourist/resort areas; tranquil & lush setting with a gorgeous view of the ocean (which is also the view from the bed no less!) -- kind of like a tropical version of Mendocino County in California. The rental itself is comfortable, clean, and well-maintained -- a nice balance of providing quality necessities (the mattress is heavenly) and wonderful touches of spa-like details (e.g. the SoHa Living diffuser in the bathroom -- pleasant & light background scent and not overwhelming). Ryan & Lisa are gracious, generous, fun, and personable hosts; and were very respectful of our privacy. We had a great time learning from Ryan on his tour of the property about the farm, growing & processing macadamia nuts, and the variety of fruits grown on the property -- some fruits we had never heard of before; and all the ones we had the benefit of enjoying were DEEEE-licious!! All-around an awesome stay -- Thank you, Ryan & Lisa!!!
The pictures don't do it justice...just beautiful...
A great place to launch from to explore the island. Really great location and owner was always available for anything we might need. Very peaceful place to stay.
