Experience Alaska In Your Very Own Private Log Cabin Built By A Former Mayor!

Bedrooms 2
Space 700 sq ft
Property type cabin

About the property

2 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Fully-Fenced Yard Located In A Downtown Neighborhood

Located in downtown Anchorage, the Mayor’s cabin was built in 1946 by architect Maynard Taylor, who lived in it with his wife and three kids while he was Mayor of Anchorage in the 1950s. The cabin is constructed of solid logs and still has its original metal roof but has been fully renovated and updated, with new wiring and plumbing up to modern code!

The cabin has two bedrooms, a living room, one bathroom, and a recently renovated kitchen. Please note the bathroom is only accessible through the master bedroom. Newly redecorated, the cabin is a fun mix of modern and traditional Alaskan styles. Enjoy the fully-fenced in yard and deck space -- perfect for summer BBQs, or building snowmen in the winter. The Mayor’s Cabin gives you a unique and authentic way to experience Anchorage and Alaska. It is a perfect place to stay while in Anchorage for pleasure or on business. It offers much more room and comfort than a sterile hotel room or modern apartment. The Mayor’s Cabin is a fun resting stop on your way out of town or your own personal retreat.

The cabin has bed space for up to four guests. The main bedroom features a queen size bed and there are two additional very Alaskan (see pictures!) twin beds in the separate second bedroom. The kitchen is very well equipped and the living room is both very comfortable and good for working. There is both Apple TV (with Netflix) and fast WIFI. The cabin is cozy!

The entire cabin and the fully fenced yard is yours. Both the front and back doors have secure keyless entry locks with the code provided prior to arrival.

We may be able to accommodate access to laundry. Please message for more information.

Street parking is readily available. Anchorage is not a walking town, or really a biking town (although there is a great trail system), so having a car is highly recommended.

We are fully compliant with all municipal regulations. We are registered as a business in Anchorage and we pay the 12% occupancy tax required by the Municipality of Anchorage. This tax is included in the rental fee. We are fully insured as a rental property.

About Rebecca (Becky) Lipson

Originally from outside Chicago, I moved up north in 2012 after graduating from law school. I've lived in Illinois, Maine, Michigan, and California, and feel very fortunate to call Alaska home. I purchased and renovated the cabin in 2015 and can honestly say it's one of the most fun and historic spots to stay in modern-day Anchorage! Please feel free to message with any questions. I am always happy to provide advice on restaurants, hikes, and fun activities!

Tastefully restores historic cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is a delightful surprise when you step inside. The exterior is all original and the interior is tastefully updated. Lots of cabin charm yet all the modern conveniences you need. Excellent location within walking distance of everything downtown. The one bathroom is through the master, but this shouldn’t be a problem for families or close friends.

Location Independent

Exactly as seen as in the pictures.

  • 5 of 5

This is a great property. Exactly as seen in the pictures. The house was cute, clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The location is very convenient to downtown Anchorage.

Becky was a pleasure to work with. She was extremely responsive and was a great resource for restaurant recommendations and any information we needed. Plus she has amazing design taste. :)

Great location close to the city center. Really a unique place

  • 5 of 5

Rebecca was a great host. Checking in in e-mail during our stay. And we god some great advise on where to eat from here as well. The cabin has a good standard and the four of us who stayed there for 4 nights agreed this must be the coolest place to stay in Anchorage.

Cozy cabin in the busy city

  • 3 of 5

This place is super cute and cozy. The decorations and upgrades are very nice. It is located close to everything in town. We really liked the cabin feel in the middle of the city and there is lots of room. The kitchen is fully stocked with all the dishes, silverware, etc... The owner also had great communication prior to our arrival.

The reason we gave it a 3 stars is because it is right off of the road. It is so noisy at night (through all hours) it was hard to get to sleep and stay there without a motorcycle racing by waking us up. Also the master bed was very uncomfortable. We ended up sleeping on the couch the second night. We also felt like the neighborhood was a little sketchy.

This would be a perfect fit for people who want to stay in the city and aren't bothered by traffic noise.

Owner's Response: Heather, I'm sorry to hear that you found the location to be noisy. The windows are all triple pane, which blocks most noise, but there's not much you can do about the occasional motorcycle (except this is Alaska so most of the year is not motorcycle weather)! The cabin is located on the corner of a smaller residential street and a two lane street going into downtown. The neighborhood is safe and residential, but maybe different from where you're travelling from. This is the first complaint I've received about the bed and had you informed me, I certainly would have tried to help accommodate. For instance there is a memory foam pad I would've been happy to provide if you found the bed too firm. I am always happy to try and accommodate guest needs to improve their stay, but unfortunately can't do much after the fact! Becky

Cute, convenient, & clean.

  • 4 of 5

Nice little unit that was charming and very clean. It was very close to downtown for the restaurants and still very convenient to the airport.

We only stayed overnight.

My only negative would be that it was pretty close to a main road into town and was a bit noisey. But it wasn't oppressive.

Great location and comfy

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the cabin for 2 nights. The location is great. Walking distance from downtown, where we walked around, as well as rented bikes and rode the Coastal Trail. The downside of being so close to downtown is that the cross street is a bit noisy, but when the windows were closed it didn't bother us. Becky is flexible and friendly and accommodated all our needs. She also decorated the cabin very tastefully. The yard is fenced-in, which gave our little kids a chance to run around (at 10pm, when there was still light outside...).

Overall, had a great time in the cabin and would definitely recommend it! Thanks, Becky!

The cabin is perfectly situated in a residential neighborhood just a few blocks walk to downtown. One block from New Sagaya City Market with a full-service Kaladi Brothers Cafe, the cabin is also less than a five minute walk from Fire Island, Anchorage's most delicious artesian bakery.

The cabin is less than 15 minutes from the Ted Stevens International Airport and approximately one mile from the train depot in Ship Creek.

--Less than a five minute drive or a fifteen minute walk from Westchester Lagoon and the coastal trail.

--A 20 minute drive southeast to the Flat Top parking lot and the Chugach Mountain trailheads or 20 minutes southwest to mountain biking and cross country skiing in Kincaid Park.

Saving the best for last: there’s a reindeer in the neighborhood! Star the reindeer is just two blocks north on the corner of 10th and I.
