Overview

About the property

Our guest reviews tell our story better than we can.

Hawks View House in Joshua Tree is located in a secluded canyon 6 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree. Hiking is available right out the back door, featuring back porch shower, fire pit and amazing views in every direction. A short drive to JTNP.

We rebuilt this 1950s Homesteader Cabin from scratch. After jack-hammering and re-pouring the old cement floor, we wood framed inside the original cinder block walls to provide lots of electrical outlets and additional insulation. The cabin features two 10 ft. covered porches, metal roof and metal ceiling, new dish washer, gas stove, refrigerator and state of the art AC and heating. All new plumbing provides good water pressure for both showers (one outside), whirlpool tub and kitchen. Enjoy our starry night skies around the propane fire-pit. Grill up some veggies and steak on the BBQ porch. We have an information center with complementary maps highlighting points of interest and recommended local restaurants, shops, coffee houses, art galleries, theaters, health food stores and our local yoga studio. Our local friends tell us they like to visit because of the unique location at the end of the road near the top of our hill. DO NOT use GPS to arrive at our location. GPS may lead you onto an impassable trail. You must approach our location from the east (Sunburst Road in Joshua Tree). Please allow us to text or email directions along with the front door lock combination for your stay.

Magical & very private getaway

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this little perfect hide-a-way!! It was not only the absolute perfect location with four different views of Joshua Tree area, it also felt so private, even though minutes to town. Paul was great!! He provided us with lots of great information about the area and also gave us the privacy we were looking for. From gazing at the stars on the front porch, grilling out on the side porch, enjoying our coffee on the back porch, and utilizing the outdoor shower as much as possible, it was all perfection!! We will be back!!

Perfect Base Camp

  • 5 of 5

This host has it all laid out. We wanted for nothing and the place is kept nicely. We used it as our base camp for climbing at Joshua Tree. Easy to find, terrific evenings and fantastic sunrises. We loaded up on food in yucca valley and cooked all our meals at the cabin.

We stayed in contact with the host, asked about specific restaurants and such and he was prompt for info. Bed was comfy, heat/air condition option was spot on, near instant hot water and very relaxed feel. Deposit was refunded promptly too. We will keep this in our quiver for later trips to Joshua Tree.

The Perfect Getaway Location!

  • 5 of 5

We’ve stayed in MANY VRBOs and finally have a favorite. Hawk’s View was spotless, comfortably cozy, located in a perfectly quiet desert setting, included all the amenities promised, and came with our own personal guide to everything local. The cabin was prettier than the pictures described. Plenty of room for two with great seating areas out front and back and incredible sunrises. The location is perfect for jaunts into Joshua Tree, and close enough to Palm Springs for easy day trips or drives in for dinner. Paul is the host at Hawk’s View and he was perfect. He knew where to go for the unique foods we requested, where the local artists were previewing, what hikes to take in JTNP, and best of all, he’s a great photographer and his work hangs in the cabin. We’re looking forward to our next trip back.

Excellence and Taste in the Desert

  • 5 of 5

My only regret is that we didn't plan to spend more time here. The desert surroundings are calming and beautiful, particularly during our wintertime visit. The host's arty and tasteful design of the interior and outside spaces encourages interaction with the surroundings. The view from the bed itself is incredible, particularly at sunrise in January. The host is great -- friendly and accommodating, and proud of his desert hideaway. As he should be. We stayed at Hawk's Nest for just a couple of nights during a visit to Joshua Tree National Park. If you can spare the time, it's worth it to work in an additional day or two to enjoy this peaceful desert space.

About Paul Morehead

Paul began vacationing here from the San Francisco Bay Area 30 years ago, fell in love with the place and people and moved here in 2004. Paul is a professional nature/landscape photographer. We purchased this homesteaders cabin built in the early 1950's, and spent a year rebuilding it from scratch. After jack- hammering and repouring the floor, we framed and insulated the walls to provide plenty of electrical outlets, added 2 covered patios, ran a new water line to provide plenty of water pressure for the whirlpool tub and two showers (one outside) and included a night sky viewing area in the back yard. The cabin is on 5 acres, nestled at the end of our road in a private canyon 6 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree. We love to meet new people and share this amazing location with others who share our passion for this beautiful desert area.

Paul Morehead purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Paul Morehead chose Joshua Tree

If you want seclusion only 6 minutes away from restaurants, shopping, art, night life and more, this is the property for you. Hike straight out of the back door, star gaze from the backyard (our canyon protects us from the "city glow"), be amazed from the view under a full moon, view wild life from the front porch. Our first visitor during construction was a Desert Tortoise from one of the many tortoise dens on our combined 10 acres of land.

Your hosts home is next door to provide support when you want it and the privacy you came here for.
