THE SPACE

When the house was purchased and rehabbed in 2012, it was originally envisioned to be a writers retreat, which it still is. When Words Count Writers Retreat functions year-round on the property. Because of this, the house gathers no dust and holds a living creative energy.

In the last few years, it's opened its doors to weddings, retreats, reunions, parties, holiday gatherings, seminars & any events that require a beautiful, well-maintained venue.

There are 2 bedrooms on the first floor, named 'Fitzgerald' & 'Twain'. Both 1st floor bedrooms have full private bathrooms. There are 2 upstairs wings. The west wing has 4 bedrooms ('Hemingway', 'Ellison', 'Dickinson' & 'Miller') that share 2 full bathrooms. This wing was part of the original construction and has original hardwood floors and details dating back to the early 1900's. The east wing has 3 bedrooms (O'Conner, Frost & Bradbury) that share 2 bathrooms. This wing was added in the 1960's, these rooms are smaller and are carpeted.

On the first floor, in addition to the 2 master bedrooms, there's a well-stocked kitchen, large dining room, a foyer / serving area and a good-sized living room with a bathroom, fireplace, library, flat-screen TV and sofas.

Outside the house is a heated pool with beautiful views, a gazebo, a pond, a fire pit, a grill and 17 well-maintained, private acres.

About Tom Eisner

This is my father and his wife's property. It's used year-round as a writers retreat. I've helped open it up as a venue for weddings, reunions, parties, ski trips, holidays, conferences, retreats and any other gathering that benefits from a beautiful venue in the mountains. I only help out with online coordination and do not live on-site. After booking, you'll be working with the property's GM, Jill and the owner, Steve.

Tom Eisner purchased this estate in 2012

Clean, comfortable, quiet

  • 5 of 5

We (group of ~10, corporate retreat) had a fantastic overnight stay here! The property is beautiful and serene, and we were greeted with warmth and a pleasant tour before being left to our own devices. The Inn is usually a writer's retreat, and each bedroom is named for a literary figure, which everyone enjoyed.

With a fire in the fireplace and 14 acres of snowy fields surrounding us, this was the perfect location for a team meeting. The next day, we were close enough to Sugarbush/MRG that everyone was able to have a leisurely cup of coffee before heading to the slopes for some skiing.

Would eagerly come back again.

Perfect VT Farmhouse for a large group

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful old farmhouse that very comfortably fit 15 of us. We especially loved the large dining room for meals all together, the living room with fireplace (and plenty of firewood) for games and conversation, and the spacious and comfy bedrooms. It was better than we expected! Definitely off the beaten path which we appreciated, but only 30min from skiing. Tip- bring bottled water, since the tap water had a strong iron taste.

5+ Stars - Amazing house, beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

My party and I had the opportunity to stay in this house for our annual ski trip. The home is beautiful and easily accommodated our large group. The property around the house is breathtaking and definitely provides the privacy needed for a comfortable getaway. Every detail in the house has been carefully thought out to make your stay enjoyable, from the individually themed rooms after different writers, to providing all the basic essentials (e.g. extra space heaters, slippers, towels, etc). The owner is very responsive and the property manager lives nearby in case anything is needed. The home is no doubt 5+ stars, and we're already thinking about coming back next year!

Perfect for a ski getaway

  • 5 of 5

This house had a true Vermont feel and there was more than enough space for our group of 20. We loved the house and property and would definitely recommend it to others looking to have a ski getaway in the Green Mountains.

Car: necessary

The house is in a rural, mountain setting surrounded by dirt roads that weave through the mountains between the forest, cow pastures and maple syrup makers. The closest town, Rochester, is 10 minutes away by car. It has a pretty well-stocked grocery store with a wide selection beer, wine and liquors. The town has a nice cafe / bookstore / bakery and a diner-ey restaurant and a bar. It's a beautiful, old town with a large courtyard and church and place to rent bikes. Further down the road are towns like Warren, Woodstock and Killington where larger, more upscale restaurants and shops can be found.

If you're coming for a ski strip, the house is about 45 min from Killington and Bread Loaf.
