About Marisue Hilliard

We moved to Asheville in 2005 from Denver, Colorado. We wanted to live out in the country and found our house in a small rural neighborhood south of Asheville. We loved the open floor plan and views of Mt. Pisgah on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Over the years we hosted many parties and overnight guests and received so many positive comments about the house that we decided to try the vacation rental option in 2015. We love Asheville and wanted to continue to use our home so this seemed like the perfect arrangement.

We have worked in the field of natural resources throughout our careers. I enjoyed a 32-year career with the US Forest Service that took me throughout the southeast and Colorado. In 2011 I retired from the National Forests in North Carolina. Bill continues his forestry career mapping forest resources across the US. When we’re not enjoying the Asheville scene, we live on our farm in Georgia. In the foyer is a charcoal sketch done by our daughter of our farm house that Bill built. We have three children and five grandchildren.

Needless to say, Asheville and western North Carolina have been a mecca for us with our lifelong interest in the outdoors. We know some of the best places in the area for outdoor recreation. For instance, we know where you can view up close wild elk in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We can direct you to some of the most outstanding waterfalls in the southeast and we know where you can go whitewater rafting and kayaking. Our favorite spot is Max Patch near the North Carolina/Tennessee border where you can hike a short section of the Appalachian Trail and picnic in an open meadow with panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

We know you’ll love your visit to Asheville. Your biggest challenge will be deciding what to see and do during your visit. There is such a variety of options! You will want to return time and again to see it all!

Clean, organized, beautiful location, plenty of room.

  • 5 of 5

I rented this property for a family get together in celebration of my son’s graduation from college. The owner was very quick to respond when I had a question about something. The owners have organized everything and labeled everything so their guests have ease figuring things out. The owners even supply some staples of you want it like coffee and water, salt and pepper among other things. The clean up was easy and painless. The location is beautiful. There is a wonderful balcony to eat off of. It was just an overall wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend them.

Wonderful week at Cold Moose

  • 5 of 5

The home was beautiful, very comfortable, and our every need had been anticipated and provided for. The cabinets were filled with a generous quantity of nice dishes, cookware, paper goods and even some staples and spices. The appliances are modern and in good working condition. Entertainment is easily found in the media room, large collection of books, movies, board games and puzzles. We were there one week and could have enjoyed staying longer. We hope to make this an annual event.

Lovely home with beautiful views

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I stayed here for a girls weekend/bachelorette celebration, and we had a wonderful stay. We found the house was even better than the pictures. Amazingly spacious but cozy, and so well kept and clean when we arrived. Marisue was very helpful and communicative after booking, and we happened to run into her and her husband as we left and they were coming in to get the house ready for the next guests. They were so nice, even helping us take a few group photos outside, and we enjoyed getting to chat with them for a few minutes. I highly recommend this property!!
