Clean, excellent location and value

  • 4 of 5

This property is small, as described, but very nice and clean. The kitchen is a good size for this type of place and closet space is ample. I had an question regarding entry and the property manager was immediately available by phone...very responsive. The location was perfect for me as the 96 bus stop is less than 2 blocks away. The neighborhood seemed very safe and neighbors were friendly. Just one complaint, really is that since it is a basement apartment, there is a drain pipe for the building that runs through the closet in the bedroom. There is always a "babbling brook" sound, but when other tenants are showering, doing laundry or dishes, it becomes an all out waterfall. If you are a light sleeper, I would recommend bringing earplugs. Also note that there are several steps to get into the apartment and a large step up into the kitchen and bathroom. This was not a problem for me, but others may want to be aware. Overall a great experience and I would stay there again.

Lively neighborhood, walkable to Dupont Circle Metro

  • 4 of 5

We stayed for a week in Oct. 2017. The host, Arlene, was very accommodating -- promptly providing us an extra key to the unit and replacement batteries for the clock and TV remote. We walked to and from the Dupont Circle Metro station every day, often stopping at Firehook Bakery on Q St. to pick up bagels for the day's adventures. A 7-11 convenience store is nearby, but we found better selection at the Rite Aid at Connecticut and Florida. A Capital Bikeshare dock is on Florida Ave. It was a short, hilly bike ride to the National Zoo's southern entrance.

Two concerns about the unit: sound and accessibility. In the bedroom there's often the sound of running water through the pipes from an upstairs unit. To reach the unit from street level you either descend steps or a steep ramp. Once inside, the level of the kitchen and bathroom are a step and a half above the rest of the unit. This wasn't an issue for us, but may be for some future visitors.

Overall, the unit served our needs well.

It's a winner!

  • 4 of 5

Very clean, modern. Great kitchen. Bathroom is small, but nice. Neighborhood is fantastic! Enjoyable to walk around and explore the many restaurants.

On the was difficult for my husband to maneuver. There are steps going down into the unit that are charming but not very safe for a person with a knee problem. On the inside of the unit there is one really big step up into the kitchen and also one really big step up into the bathroom. This is something that a person with any sort of handicap should be aware of.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. But, not for someone disabled...

Nice apartment in hip part of DC

  • 5 of 5

Summary: I would definitely book again for my family of 3.

Pros: The is a nice, efficient apartment that comfortably fits a couple +/- a small child. The neighborhood is clean, quiet, and safe with a lot of nearby restaurants and fun night-life. (Ankara in Dupont Circle is excellent!) It is within walking distance of the metro and you can easily get to all of the DC attractions. A large grocery store is also with walking distance. We managed well for a week without a car/taxi/shuttle.

The apartment was easy to book with clear instructions on how to get in. It was clean and comfortable. The kitchen had all of the needed appliances. There is a nice washing machine and drier in the unit as well. The host leaves dish washer tabs, clothing detergent, and shampoo/soap as well, which is a nice touch. Definitely a fair price for what you get.

Cons: The apartment is small. It worked very well for us but I don't think it would comfortably fit 3 adults or a larger family unless all you are doing is sleeping there. This is mainly because the bathroom is off of the bedroom and the 2nd bed is a fold out couch in the main room, which you have to go through to get to the kitchen or go outside. We did not have a car but I can imagine that parking would be very difficult. (You don't need a car though unless you are travelling outside of the metro service area. The metro is easy to use, very clean, and safe in DC.)

If you plan to cook, make sure you plan on buying (or bringing) oil, salt, pepper, etc. The kitchen has pots, plates, cups, etc. but don't expect ANY type of food, spices, etc. This varies from rental to rental and I don't see it as a huge negative. Just be aware when booking/shopping for groceries.

You can hear the water running through the pipes in the walls from the other apartments. We noticed it but weren't bothered by it. If you are a light sleeper, it may bug you so bring ear plugs if you think it might bother you.

These cons are all relatively minor and more of an FYI when booking. I would definitely come back here if I needed to go to DC again.
