Overview

About the property

4 bedrooms 2 bathrooms, Sleeps 10

Welcome to the Black Dog Beach Club! This is one of the nicest and newest family cabins on Grindstone Lake. We built it in 2005 and have made major updates every year since then. Each room has a theme! Two bedrooms are on the first floor (known as the Bear Den and the Mooster Suite), as well as a bathroom (the Fishing Hole), a spacious kitchen. Dining area and living room. This rustic chalet with pine walls and maple floors also has a loft that sleeps an additional 4 people. A third bedroom (the Looney Bin) is in the cozy finished basement, along with a second bathroom (the Dock Diving Academy) and large family room (the Birkie Lounge). The Mooster Suite has a king bed, the Bear Den has a queen size and the Looney Bin has a full sized. The home also features two fireplaces on main and lower level. Conduct business in paradise with wifi, private desk and laser printer. Enjoy the game or watch movies on a rainy day on the two flat screen tvs with charter hd cable, surround sound, blu ray players and Xbox 360 in the loft. The kitchen will support your largest family meals. It has granite counter tops, large full sized stainless appliances, an eat in kitchen island and dining room space for 8-10 people. Venturing outside, there is a spacious outdoor deck, outdoor grill, firepit and gazebo if bugs are bad. A few short steps down to the lake leads you to a large 60 foot dock and sand bar frontage on beautiful crystal clear Grindstone Lake. A perfect spot to swim with the kids, set up a volleyball net, or teach Fido how to dock dive. The Black Dog Beach Club has the perfect location for all your summer activities.

One thing to note. Like many glacial lakes throughout Wisconsin, Grindstone has sections of high lakeshore elevation. This does make for spectacular views, but it also means guests must traverse steps to get down to the lake level. The BDBC has 66 well built and safe stairs to get you to the lake that will give you a great workout, no matter what your age.

Relaxing, cozy, beautiful, spacious, and dog friendly!

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely, quiet, private, and welcoming home with lots of natural light and a great view of the lake through just the right amount of trees! What a bonus that our dog was welcome, too! Thank you for providing a tie-out by the porch for the dog to explore the yard. We loved both of the fireplaces and your generous choices of coffee and tea. All your amenities made us feel special and welcomed. The kitchen had any dish or utensil we could wish to use.The bath towels were thick and soft. The bed was very comfortable. The room themes were fun and beautiful. It was an easy walk to explore the lake access and venture out onto the frozen lake. The location was perfect to relax as much as we wanted or to be as active as we wanted. Even the drive to town was easy and scenic. We will need to come again to enjoy the fire pit, BBQ, and screen porch in different seasons! Thank you for sharing your home with us. It exceeded all of our expectations and provided the relaxing and inspirational retreat we were seeking.

Great Cabin in a Great location

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed staying at this lovely cabin. As soon as you walk inside, you feel like you are home. The cabin has so many nice personal touches. I liked each bedroom having a theme! The property was very clean and the owners were pleasant to work with. Overall, a 5 star rating and would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone that is thinking of staying up outside of the Hayward area.

A Beautiful cabin on a beautiful lake

  • 4 of 5

Our family had a great time staying at this cabin. The cabin was clean and comfortable with very nice new appliances, TVs and entertainment systems. We all seemed to sleep well in the beds. It's around 6 miles to Hayward so it was easy to go out for dinner or get to the grocery store if needed. The cabin is located in a nice neighborhood and it was very quiet there. Grindstone lake is a beautiful clear lake. I wish I could have fished it but was too busy skiing and just bobbing about. It never felt crowded either. The only challenge with the lake was that it has very dramatic depth changes. I highly recommend getting a lake map.

There were 2 negatives for our family about this location. The main thing for us was the 72 steps down to the lake. We wound up trailering the boat at the public launch(a couple of miles away) every night rather than making the stair trip. As a result we didn't go out on the lake as much as we usually do. The other item is that I wish the gas grill was a better quality. We grill a lot and this one worked poorly.

The positives for this cabin were: It's location, It's comfort and size, the kitchen and appliances were nice and new, it had 2 full baths that were nice size, a quiet neighborhood, and it is on a really beautiful clean and clear lake.

About Steve and Julie Pyle

The inspiration for the Black Dog Beach Club comes from our two black labs, Pablo and Monty and our grand dog Stella. We live in the Twin Cities but used the cabin as a second home for the past 10 years. Many dogs have stayed with us and when we decided to rent the cabin, we wanted to have a place where families could vacation with their dogs. So many memories have been made at this beautiful place with our two boys and our dogs and we wanted other families to be able also make similar memories with their kids and their fur kids. We do not charge a pet fee; only a small supplemental security deposit that is refundable.

Steve and Julie Pyle purchased this chalet in 2005

Why Steve and Julie Pyle chose Hayward

Hayward is an international destination. We love the thrill when the church bells start to ring, the deafening roar of the clanging of cow bells, and the loud cheers as the leaders of the American Birkebeiner approach Main Street for the final sprint. Our family has participated regularly in the Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival which takes place in September. We have countless festivals and the cleanest, clearest lakes in all of Wisconsin or Minnesota. Like to fish? Chase after the next "world record" musky on Grindstone Lake. (Louis Spray caught the World Record at the time on Grindstone in 1939). World class mountain biking on the CAMBA trails are a fun challenge for even professional bike riders. With cross country skiing and fat biking in the winter, plus miles of groomed snowmobile trails Hayward is also a great winter destination. It does not matter whether you are a sportsman, an art lover, a foodie, a music lover or just love the sound of loons and eagles calling in the evenings, Hayward has it all!

What makes this chalet unique

The gazebo is one of our favorite spots to enjoy the outdoors. It is large and comfortable and provides for great views of the lake, as well as protection from the bugs. We enjoy outdoor dining and grilling on our deck. The neighbors are extremely friendly and welcoming. Perhaps the biggest benefit is that Grindstone Lake, as large as it is, is seldom overly busy. Pontoons like to tie up to each other on the sandbar. Even on the 4th of July, there will not be the congested boat traffic of a Twin Cities lake. You also can boat or drive to Waterfront restaurant. They are known to have the best Friday fish fry and Saturday night Prime Rib in the Hayward area! If you like unique adventures, take a jet ski or kayak through the channel between Grindstone and Lac Courte Oreilles. It does get shallow in places so be sure to walk through your jet ski in the more shallow spots. This adventure will give you access to two resorts that have great food and drinks on the lake: Trails End Resort and Anglers Haven Resort are hot spots on Lac Courte Oreilles. Trails End has awesome burgers and Anglers makes the most interesting and tasty pizzas in the area. Do you prefer a supper club experience? Try Fireside, The Ranch, The Steakhouse, the Chippewa Inn and Italia. All are excellent and reasonably priced.
