About Robert

We have been travelling to St Lucia regularly for over 10 years. The island quickly became our favourite Caribbean destination and we fell in love with the island, the beautiful scenery, the friendly people, and the consistent winds as we are avid kiteboarders. This led to the purchase of a lot and the opportunity to build our dream home, a modern style concrete structure with expansive spaces which are one with the outdoors. We employed Architect John Hix, well known for his Caribbean projects, to design the house, and used local contractors to build it.

Why Robert chose Micoud

The lot inspired us from the moment we set foot on it. Perched on a peninsula overlooking the serenity of the Atlantic Ocean it has an instant calming effect. The captivating views in every direction, the neighbouring sandy beach and the constant cooling sea breeze all conspired to convince us to purchase the land.

We wanted a vacation and that is exactly what we'd got!

  • 5 of 5

All the good things you read about this place are beyond true. We fell in love with the place the minute we saw it online and it is even better in person. Yes, it is out of the way and we are glad we stayed elsewhere on the island before coming here to get a taste of st. Lucia, but our 5 nights here were the highlight of our trip. Yes, I would suggest renting a car. But, don't hesitate to rent this place if you want a relaxing vacation in an amazingly designed home. We stayed in one of the studios and it was perfect. We cooked every meal in the well equipped kitchen, swam frequently in the pool, sat in the loungers, listened to the waves all day And night, slept with the breeze, admired the stars, and went on long walks among breathtaking scenic paths (the best of which is walking out of the driveway and taking the first path you see to the left). We just barely wanted to leave this place. This was unlike any other place we have stayed and we loved every second of it. Lucy and the guards, as well as the friendly dogs, are all wonderful and are unobtrusive, yet kind, helpful and welcoming. You are away from it all, but the airport is 10 minutes away, good supermarket, massy, is about 20 minutes away, and gorgeous beaches, anse Chastanet and anse mamin, are an hours drive, easily done as a day trip. Highly, highly, highly recommended place to stay!

beautiful and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

we had the most amazing time staying at the ocean studio. it's quiet, romantic, and perfect for a couple. we always felt safe based on the 24/7 security, and we were even allowed to take the dogs on walks! even without air conditioning the ocean breeze kept us cool and comfortable the entire time. it's easy not to leave, but if you plan on exploring make sure you have a rental car as this place is off the beaten path, down a long bumpy dirt road, and not easy accessible by cab. bed was comfortable and luxurious. my only negative feedback is that the wifi only worked in a small section of the studio (couldn't access it from the patio area and barely on the bed). we would stay here again!

Beautiful beautiful beautiful!!!!

So.. we spent 5 days at this wonderful beach house and absolutely loved every second of it.

Pros: Lucy picked us up from the airport and drove us to the location. The security guy Loui was awesome with this local recommendations. The pool was wonderful, the view was wonderful, the house absolutely wonderful. This is an ultimate relaxation/ lovers/honeymooners nest. We had a massage which was arranged for us which was an absolute dream. This place really is a slice of heaven. The outdoor shower is also perfection. 24 hour security. Front and back view breath taking! Self contained.

Cons: The location is really far if you do not have a car like us. The road to get into the area is rocky as hell so if you hire a car get a 4x4 You may want to reconsider this place if you do not hire a car, we spent a HELL of alot of money on cabs which dappened the experience a bit and it felt like the first taxi driver we were given was quoting us random prices because we were foreign.

If you dont drive and stay here just buy lots of food and water as its relaxation bliss.

Two days out of our stay electricity went out which wasnt exactly fun... we went for a walk in the day time when it went out which was fine but in the night time when it went out we had no choice but to just go to sleep.

No local shops so do a solid stop off before you go to the house. There was no where we could just get food or snacks quickly ..make sure you do shopping before hand or if you go out so u have something to eat.

The door of the toilet didnt 100% close properly & some of the glasses in the room were broken which wasnt a problem but could have been checked before hand.

We didnt have a local phone so we heavily relied on the use of whats app to get hold of Lucy on the two days the internet went out we had to ask security what had happened as no one informed us.

Just be mindful that lucy isnt on hand 24 hours so if you need her you may have to wait or have all questions for her when you see her.

An Iconic House

  • 5 of 5

First of all, this house is an architectural masterpiece, an iconic design by John Hix. We spent five days with dear friends and the design of house, centered around a restaurant-quality kitchen, a gracious sitting area, and of course the exquisite pool, made for some very special times.

Lucy and Gibbs, the local managers, took excellent care of us and clearly take great care of the property as well. They arranged for a local chef to prepare dinner for us for several nights. The cost was $100US + the cost of food (about $40, depending on the dish). So for four people this was quite affordable (and very good).

The security guards, who occupy a small guard house at the front of the house, are friendly but non-instrusive, and are not allowed to the rear of the house, where guests lounge by the pool. We felt very safe and untroubled by the wider world. We left the sliding glass doors to our room open and lowered the screen to sleep.

The house is relatively isolated: Vieux Fort is about a 20-minute drive away, including about a mile of rough unpaved road to reach the main road (which is very good). And the setting, while spectacular, more resembles a Scottish heath than postcard Caribbean beaches.

Bottom line: this is a great place to gather with some friends and hang out in a beautiful house with a great view. But inertia kicks in very quickly, and you won't want to leave the house.

Stunning views, thoughtful architecture, peak relaxation vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Note: We actually ended up staying in the main unit but would recommend the studio units as well.

My wife and I decided to visit St. Lucia specifically because of this house. We had previously visited Hix Island House in Vieques (same architect) and fell in love with the modern approach to green design that takes its setting into consideration. Positioned with the trade winds with walls of glass doors that open up fully on the north and south sides of the house, there is a constant breeze that eliminates the need for air conditioning and keeps the bugs away.

The views on both sides of the house are to die for; it's impossible to tire of them. The pool is lovely and the kitchen has just about everything you could imagine needing.

We cooked all but a handful of our meals at the house and honestly enjoyed them more than just about any other meal.

Lucy was absolutely wonderful. She greeted us at the airport, drove with us to the house and then back into town to show us the fish market and the grocery store. She was very sweet and was always available by phone if we needed anything.

Jonathan and Luke, the two security guards, were also very nice and helpful.

The beach, which was a five minute walk from the house is totally secluded and picturesque. The dogs accompanied us down to the beach and showed us how to dig for crabs in the sand.

We leave St. Lucia, relaxed and ready to face what's left of winter in NYC.

We are also already planning return visits with family and friends.

Spectacular

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the big house which had one of the most comfortable coaches and beds you could ask for. The views and the walks on paths stretching from either side of the house provided breath-taking views of the landscape and majestic ocean. The pool was very refreshing and having the ocean to swim in a few minutes walk away was a huge bonus. Oscar, the resident dog, was a special addition as were his neighbourly furried friends - well behaved, very loyal, and sweet - they love the treats you feed them. Jonathan, the day security guard was always respectful, yet friendly and helpful whenever you needed him - we really enjoyed meeting him. You will want for nothing and simply delight in the sounds of the ocean and nature that surrounds this house from all sides. Advice: check out a beach close to the house that has huge waves - we only found this beach towards the end of our stay, regretfully, but if you like riding the waves, you will very much enjoy this beach and you will have it mostly to yourselves except for the few horseback riding excursions that might go by (look for sign about wine a few minutes drive from the house off the main road or ask the owner as I am sure he knows of this beach). Lucy and Gibb are wonderful caretakers and answer any questions you have promptly. A real pleasure to deal with such nice people! We were also fortunate to meet a wonderful couple who lived close by on the beach one morning which resulted in a dinner invitation with four other couples who have residences close by to our home away from home. To conclude, we loved staying here and highly recommend coming here.

St. Lucia is famous for its scenery. Rent a car and drive along the coastline. You will be amazed how many bays with little islets and hidden beaches you will discover. Take some time to hike and explore the tropical rainforest that covers a large area of the island.

St. Lucia is an ideal kiteboarding and windsurfing destination with consistent trade winds and conditons which will satisfy everyone from beginner to expert.
