My partner and I own the wonderful vacation home. I was born in NY, NY, grew up in Florida and Texas. My partner was born in Lebanon and spent his life all over the world. I am in the real estate business as well and if you are visiting to purchase a home I would be glad to assist you. If you purchase a home through me I will credit one month stay on your closing statement.. I hope you enjoy visiting the Lake Chapala area as much as I have enjoyed living here the last 12 years.

Why Michael Rosenblum chose Ajijic

We bought this property because of the location first off, the home is on the best street in Ajijic, close to everything but away from the noise of the village. The home has the Mexican charm so many people are looking for with a little urban loft feeling with an open stairway, steel beam detail, and a small steel floored library. If you are here to look at real estate I am a realtor and will be happy to show you properties and if you purchase a home through me while staying in my home I will credit part of the cost of your state at closing. At times there are questions about things the home may have included. Consumables such as soaps, toilet paper, paper towels etc are not included. When you arrive you will have enough of these items to last you anywhere from 3 days to 2 weeks. To clarify this statement: there is toilet paper, paper towels and soap in the home, when you run out it will be your responsibility to purchase additional consumables.

Rental house located at 87A Lazaro Cardenas, Ajijic

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ajijic. The facilities were great. The house is spacious and fully equipped with all kitchen and laundry appliances. It is centrally located up a hill at the end of a cobblestone street. It includes two bathrooms on two floors as well as two bedrooms on the second floor. A nice balcony/sun room is located on the third floor with a very nice view of the neighborhood. Its central location made it easy to have access to grocery shopping down the street as well as to various restaurants that are nearby or located about 15 minutes' walk away.

Mr Rosenblum, the owner, is a very amiable person who lives just a few blocks away. He was always available when we needed to get in touch with him.

The cobblestone streets are not easy to walk on but we got good walking shoes and got used to it after a few days.

All the mod cons and a gorgeous view

  • 4 of 5

The house in Upper Ajijic was a delight: great and well-supplied kitchen, perfect internet service, cool and airy, decent beds, and with a fantastic 3rd-floor view of both Lake Chapala and the lovely mountains behind the town. I loved the Roku service for the TV, something I had never experienced before. A very nice cleaning lady comes once a week, too. It is situated on the corner of the only paved road in Ajijic--the rest of the town's streets are made of really difficult volcanic-rock cobblestones! Michael is the perfect landlord: there when you need him, and not when you don't. Unfortunately, when we were staying there, a construction site next door made terrible noise every day, so for us it was not the peaceful hideaway it could have been. Let's hope that they will be through working very soon! This is not a place that would be good for a family with small children, unless they were carefully supervised at all times, since the staircases are precariously perched. The only other drawback is that it is about a 2 km walk down a steep hill to the center of town; if you have trouble walking up and down steep cobblestoned hills, it is worthwhile to consider renting one of the golf carts that so many retirees in Ajijic have, or getting a car. All in all, a very nice house!

Lovely home, well maintained

  • 5 of 5

Lovely home, well maintained. We wanted to stay in a real (ie, not institutionalized generic Holiday Inn!) home in Ajijic - this place was just perfect. From the great location (easy walking distance to anywhere in the village), super-clean property including clean windows!, well equipped kitchen that had everything if we had wanted to cook, modern bathrooms, and comfy bed, well, we felt perfectly at home. I have 2 favorite memories: sitting in the 3rd floor room that overlooks the mountains and reading as the hummingbirds visited the potted flowers outside the window sills, and listening to the clip-clopping of the cowboys riding past the home every morning and evening on the stone streets.

Michael was an excellent owner, taking the time to make sure we understood all the features of the home during our stay. He provided a list of recommended restaurants and things to do. He also took the time to show us some properties as he is a realtor.

All the way around, it was a most relaxing visit and we look forward to renting from him again.

Overall -- a pleasant stay and a great personal service!

  • 3 of 5

This review is mixed and simply honest. The house is charming, convenient, roomy, lots of kitchen conveniences, and reasonably priced. Michael was good enough to take time to drive us around the area showing us neighborhoods.

The "mixed" part of the review: Just be aware that you are expected to provide your own toilet tissue, Kleenex, fresh (not someone else's used) hand and bath soap, and bottled water. Unfortunately, we were not aware of those conditions, and we didn't find out until my wife was sick with dysentery and we ran out of toilet tissue in the middle of the night. Don't expect bath mats or bath rugs, or nice soft hotel quality bath towels. One of the beds is backache hard but the other is quite comfortable.

Also, $25 was held back by the proprietor because we left shortly after the maid completed her final cleaning. We were all packed up and placed our luggage in the garage before she completed her cleaning and then we left to look at one final house for sale. We returned, shortly thereafter, gathered our luggage from the garage and were off to the airport to return home. There was no reason for the maid to return on our account. I explained it to the proprietor but to no avail. It was just $25 but what with the tissue, soap, etc., it was just irritating -- not exemplary customer service. Penny wise and pound foolish comes to mind.

A GREAT PERSONAL SERVICE: When my wife did get sick, I called the proprietor on a Sunday morning asking for a referral for medical attention. Shortly after speaking with him on the phone, a friend of his, an RN, called and said she was bringing over medicine, electrolytes, and would check my wife's condition. She did just that and she helped a GREAT deal. So, what the proprietor did for us in referring his friend was VERY much appreciated -- the other issues pale in comparison. We are very grateful to Michael Rosenblum, the proprietor, and to his friend, Gabrielle.

I do recommend his house and Michael -- they will always hold a special place in our hearts. Michael was very nice to our little canine companion, too. Oh, we bought a home in Lakeside!

Owner's Response: I am glad the Brownings enjoyed their visit to Ajijic. As a realtor I always like to show off our village, that is why I also refund at closing the cost of one week when staying at my rental home if a guest buys a home through me. To clarify a few things. This is a vacation rental by owner, we rent out our home furnished with everything a visitor might need, from pots and pans, linens, etc. We do not maintain an inventory of consumables during the entire stay of our guests. We are not a hotel. When a guest arrives they will find the consumables such as toilet paper, paper towels, plastic bags, dish soap, laundry soap, dish washer soap, bath soap, drinking water (10 gallons) etc to last at least 3 to 5 days. We do have a checkout time of 11:00am, this assures our next guest a clean and comfortable stay. If a guest needs to stay longer than an 11:00am check out, notification helps me schedule the maid accordingly. I am glad I could take 8 hours out of my Saturday as a real estate agent and give him a tour, take time out for lunch and then take him to the grocery store. If I had been told he had another real estate agent scheduled in the next few days I would not have burned my gas and wasted my Saturday. Thanks for being our guest.
