For those discerning guests who feel that quality and cleanliness are essential, this is the lake home for you! This home has been extensively renovated with quality and style in mind. The home is set on a beautiful, private and exclusive freshwater lake. Every room has water views. The property boasts 4 bedrooms and two bathrooms (one of the bedrooms is an adjacent, well-appointed sleeping cabin with queen-size bed just steps from the main cottage), a gourmet kitchen, and plenty of indoor and outdoor space to relax and enjoy the panoramic lake views. Also, we just bought a brand new Arctic Spa/Hot tub!
This impressive cottage was built for a U.S. Senator in classic arts and crafts style in 1929. The current owners have gone to great lengths to preserve the warmth, rustic charm and elegance of the original structure, while updating it it with every comfort and convenience. This is the quintessential Canadian cottage experience.
The main cottage structure is designed around a magnificent cathedral-ceiling great room with a floor to ceiling stone fireplace. Because it is located on a point, the cottage receives direct sunlight all day long, perfect for both relaxing with a coffee in the morning and sunbathing by the lake in the afternoon. And there are lake views from every window in the cottage.
The open concept kitchen has a large 14 foot central island topped with Douglas fir countertop and Bosch induction cooktop, an additional new gas range, sub-zero fridge and ice maker, a Bosch convection microwave and central vacuum. The kitchen counters feature soapstone tops, a large farmhouse sink and Bosch dishwasher. Laundry facilities are by Miele. Both the septic system and 200 foot deep well are new and state-of-the-art. We also recently installed an attractive new wood stove to add to the general coziness!
There is a full bathroom and two bedrooms located on the lower floor (one with a queen and one with a double bed) and a master suite with king-sized bed and ensuite bathroom with double vanity located upstairs in the large turret. The fourth queen-sized bed is in a comfortable, private cabin affectionately known as "the guest cabin" (50ft from main house).
There are two docks for relaxing at, one on the east side and one on the west, so you can always catch the sun! Both docks can hold many people. There is plenty of seating on each dock. The water around the docks is clean, deep and free of weeds. We also recently installed a new swim platform about 50 feet from the west dock. Kids love the privacy this separate area provides - and so do adults! The lake features great swimming in clear spring-fed water and very limited motorboat traffic. It is particularly good for canoeing, kayaking and paddle-boarding.
The cottage is located on a spectacular, private point of land jutting into the central part of one of Eastern Canada's most pristine lakes, There are almost no cottages in sight, the entire view to the west being taken up by Frontenac Provincial Park and a number of Crown-owned islands.
Devil Lake is one of the best kept secrets in the Rideau Lakes area and rivals the Muskoka Lakes on all counts. The lake has been home to cottagers from some of Canada's and America's wealthiest families. The lake is large, deep, clean and private. From Frontenac Park, to Buttermilk Falls, Crown-owned islands, our favourite jumping rocks, snorkeling, canoeing and kayaking, lookouts and hiking trails, this lake is sure to please any discerning cottage enthusiast. Devil Lake is about 9 miles long by 4 miles wide, providing guests with a large area to explore.
The lake is also known for its great fishing. Fish species include lake trout, large and smallmouth bass, pike, perch and crappy. There is a free government boat launch just 5 minutes away from the cottage.
We are located 30 minutes from Kingston, 1.5 hours from Ottawa and 3 hours from Toronto and Montreal.

This property lies directly on the James Auld Waterway, a 2000 year old native canoe route linking Frontenac and Charleston Lake Provincial Parks. It is also in the heart of the Frontenac Arch World Biosphere Reserve, the ancient granite bridge connecting the Canadian Shield to the Thousand Islands and Adirondack Mountains and recognized by UNESCO in 2002 for its incredibly rich natural environment and history.
Because of its location within the Arch, Devil Lake's granite bluffs and stands of white and red pines give it an "up-north" feeling that belies its southerly location. It's exactly the kind of landscape sought after by Canada's famous Group of Seven painters in the 1920s.
Devil Lake also immediately adjoins UNESCO's Rideau Canal World Heritage Site. The Rideau Canal consists of a series of beautiful lakes and rivers connected by canals stretching from Kingston, at the foot of Lake Ontario, to Ottawa, Canada's capital. It is is arguably the most scenic and historic waterway in North America.
