2 bedroom, 1 bath hillside home with a northern view of the Aurora Borealis!

Relax in this peaceful setting year round. Just 10 minutes from the airport, this log home offers secluded hillside accommodations with a northwestern view of lovely sunset colors. You may spot a moose, ruffed grouse, a fox or ermine! This is a good place to bird watch as well. In winter, you will see Black Capped Chickadees, Wood Peckers and more. In January and February, you may hear Great Horned Owls hooting. On a clear night you can enjoy star gazing and satellite spotting. When the aurora borealis are dancing, they can be seen from all three decks. Enjoy the sauna and grill your steak on the deck at -25 or +80 depending on your calendar. Summers are glorious and if you choose to stay home all day consider yourself lucky. This is simply the nicest location for starting and ending every day while visiting Fairbanks!

You have the entire house on 2 acres to yourselves. Two couples are very comfortable in this 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house. Each bedroom has a queen bed and the master includes a large closet. The bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs with the kitchen, dining and living room on the main floor. The kitchen is cozy and pleasant, the dining table seats 6. The living room has a leather couch that opens to a queen size sleeper. Slip out of the living room via the glass door to the viewing deck with chairs and barbeque. The big lower deck has a table and chairs, bench, and a sauna for the bold during the winter. The entry area has a collection of dvds, magazines and games. There are books about Alaska throughout the house. Have refreshments at the tall bar and throw a few darts. This is Classic Alaskan hillside living. Welcome to Chena Ridge. Welcome home!

Why Gus Bystedt chose Fairbanks

We have owned this beautiful log home next to ours for many years in this hillside neighborhood. Having just completed refreshing the interior and exterior we offer this house for you to enjoy real Alaskan living. This is a beautifully decorated house which makes you feel right at home. The Chena Ridge area is beautiful all seasons of the year. You will feel very secluded and away from the town yet its only 10 minutes to all of the activities Fairbanks has to offer.

What makes this house unique

This house is so easy to relax in and enjoy your time. We have included everything expected to make you comfortable during your stay and a few extras. You can take a safe walk in the small neighborhood. Our hillside trail is a short walk for exercise and Aurora viewing and you can be back to the house in a jiffy or take it easy on any of the three decks.

Lovely host and beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was homey and welcoming! Owner's property was beautiful, full of snow where the kids enjoyed sledding. Gus and Gari were very hospitable and kind hosts! They were kind enough to allow the kids and I to ride on their snowmobile. Even let us use their soy sauce when we forgot to buy some from the store! Unfortunately, the weather wasn't cooperating when we were there and was unable to see the Northern Lights. There was a beautiful deck to see the back and sunset can be seen through the deck or living room windows. An FYI to those who have a preference in mattresses, the rooms have firm mattresses. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here and definitely would like to come back in the future. Thank you Gus and Gari for you hospitality.

The details made it amazing

  • 5 of 5

This is a super cozy cabin in a forest setting with a (gas) fireplace and a real wood-burning sauna and a nature path out the back door (just make sure the moose aren't around first). But it's the thoughtful details that make it even more special, from the beer in the fridge, to the free use of bikes and snow shoes, everything was painstakingly thought through to make sure our trip was great. It's one of those VRBO's that you are so happy you picked once you get there.

Cozy perfect home in a pristine setting

  • 5 of 5

This was a great space....perfect for 2 couples. Loved stoking up the sauna and sweating after a cold day out and about. Gus and Gari were away they had their daughter and son in law check in on us and were always there to answer a question or turn on the generator when there was a brief power outage. Jesse even plowed the road out after a heavy snow. Thank you...couldn't ask for more

Wonderful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

The best part of our Alaskan vacation was getting to meet Gus and Gari! My family and I were blown away by their kindness and hospitality. Their cabin was perfect for our needs (there were six in our party) and was stocked with the basics we needed. I highly recommend staying here if your destination is Fairbanks!

GREAT PLACE, GREAT HOSTS

  • 5 of 5

We highly recommend the house. Since it is in the woods, you really feel like you are in the middle of Alaska forest, but it is very close to Fairbanks and Gus and Gary live in the next house, so you feel very safe. Gus and Gary are very nice persons, they are kind and always trying to help and making sure that we feel comfortable. My kids enjoy the snow machine's that Gus lend them. They are the best hosts we ever had!

The house is really great, it is just how you would imagine a house in Alaska, made of wood and very cozy.

The furniture is very beautiful, and it comes with everything you may need in the kitchen, baths, bedrooms; they did not miss any detail! It is very clean, impeccable. The fireplace is great!

We really loved and enjoyed the house.

The location is great. The roads are in very good conditions and well maintained so you can ride safe even with the extreme weather condition's. We had the opportunity to see wonderful Northern Lights in the Murphy Dome close to Fairbanks. My kids enjoy skiing in Skiland and Moose Mountain. We learned how to ride the dog sleds. Chena Hot Spring is an amazing experience, swimming in the exterior hot water with weather conditions below zero degrees. The North Pole Town is beautiful and has an ice museum and ice slides.

For those with scientific spirit you are going to experience the surface base temperature inversion that happens only in Sub Arctic regions, but I am going to led you to investigate about this natural phenomenon.

So it was a beautiful house, very kind hosts, and a great location with a lot of things to do and tons of fun. The best vacations ever!

1st Class!

Beautiful cabin and property. The cleanliness, friendliness, solitude, and wood-burning sauna made this the perfect getaway for our family of four. Perfect base camp for the many activities the area offers!
