About John and Laura Brummer

We are John and Laura. In our picture we are standing at the top of Sugar Loaf mountain just a couple miles outside Marquette overlooking Lake Superior. Great place to go. We have been married 19 years and live in Illinois and wish we could spend every day in the beautiful Upper Peninsula. While we are not able to do that we could not resist buying a property that we could begin enjoying now. We spend our summers and holidays here enjoying the Chocolay River, Lake Superior, the great town of Marquette and hiking and biking and kayaking and marveling at the open friendliness of people who are fortunate to truly be Yoopers.

John and Laura Brummer purchased this house in 2014

Why John and Laura Brummer chose Harvey

We love water. We love wildlife. We love biking and hiking and camping. We love fun people. These qualities cannot be better represented than Marquette, MI.

What makes this house unique

The property was designed and built by a couple named Jerry and Carolyn. We saw the property and loved it. They developed the property and built the home in 2007. We have benefited from their vision and tried to follow in their footsteps enjoying it like they did. The home sits on two acres and there is a mulched and gravel path that flows down to the river through beautiful red and white pines, fir trees and amazing looking cedar trees. And when you step out the back door you are not able to see a neighbor or even another light at night which makes it great for enjoying the fire pit down at the river. It is secluded and beautiful. We kayak and stand up paddle board right from the property down to the mouth of the Chocolay river and Lake Superior. Salmon and trout run in the river. Walk 200 yards out the front door and you are on a limestone and paved path along Lake Superior that runs into Marquette or you can take an adventure on your bike and pedal the 40 miles to Munising. And our neighbors are the best - retired NMU professor and a local businessman. Say hello and you will know what we love about the friendliness of the area.

This was a great place to stay in Marquette, Mi. The place was clean, spacious, everything in working order and set in a beautiful spot in the woods. The owners were super helpful when we had questions. I’d recommend this place to anyone.

Winter snowmobile get away

  • 5 of 5

Thank you to the owners. This is a beautiful home, with all the comforts of your own home. Love, love, love this place. Lots of room for a large group, with no tripping over each other. Snowmobile trails a stones throw away, and very good condition.

Marquette MI has it all. Sitting along the southern shore of the largest freshwater lake in the world and in the heart of the Michigan Upper Peninsula and home to Northern Michigan University. Way too much to list all the things to do. All the water and land outdoor adventure you can hope to find in one place is at your fingertips. Charter a fishing boat, go kayaking, camp, ski, snowmobile, hike up Sugarloaf Mountain for a beautiful view of Lake Superior. The list goes on. Marquette is also on the leading edge of the craft beer brewing scene with 4 craft breweries right in town each offering their own unique brews and fun attitudes. The university brings the flavor of academics, sports, and the laid back vibe of a college town. There are the maritime and iron ore museums to checkout. A premier national library. Multiple beaches. Biking/hiking paths everywhere. Did I mention the micro-breweries - worth mentioning twice. And excellent restaurants serving it all from whitefish and steak to all the pub food. There are Cajun, Mexican, Thai, Chinese and Italian restaurants. And don't forget to try the local pasty cuisine at places like Jean Kay's. And after dinner we highly recommend finding your way to the top of the historic Landmark Inn for an excellent cocktail while you look out over the Marquette Harbor. And can't be last because I know we are leaving things out, but Marquette is home to festivals like the Blueberry festival, the Hiawatha music festival, Arts on the Rock fine arts show, Marquette Blues festival, Marquette Trails fest, and more. Still can't be last......the shopping in downtown Marquette is outstanding for all things Yooper and excellent photography and fine art studios. Then stop by Doncker's to satisfy your sweet tooth with chocolates or some ice cream. Finally don't leave town without taking in the sites around Presque Isle Park and maybe leap off Blackrocks into Lake Superior. You can't do it all in one trip so plan to come back again!
