About MaryEllen "M.E." and Christopher Spogis

Having lived in Montana for 37 years, my husband Christopher and I welcome you to our Mountain Log Home nestled in the Bridger Mountains, a short drive from downtown Bozeman, Montana. I grew up in Bethesda, Maryland, moved to Montana for college, and have stayed ever since, raising our daughter in the nurturing community of Bozeman. We enjoy all of the culture this area has to offer, and would love to share our favorite spots for skiing, hiking, biking, boating, fishing, eating, libations, theater, shopping, visual art, and any other Montana experiences.

MaryEllen "M.E." and Christopher Spogis purchased this cabin in 1988

What makes this cabin unique

Without a doubt, our log home is town and country at its height! It has the best of both worlds, wherein one is able to truly feel away from it all, yet be a short drive west to the small city of Bozeman, or east to the small, charming Montana towns of Clyde Park or Wilsall, where burgers and beer & rodeos await. The 10 minute, 5.5 mile drive to Bridger Bowl Ski Area and Bohart Ranch Cross Country Ski Center are without reservation an awesome boon! The drives to all of these locations are stellar, with views of numerous jagged mountain peaks, and green, tree swept mountain sides, backset with our Big Sky.

Additionally, I have always loved how our home is just off the paved Brackett Creek Road, yet the driveway is just long enough to feel quite removed and cozy, nestled in the huge fir and pine trees!

Beautiful, scenic location. Lovely log home.

  • 5 of 5

Christopher met us at the cabin when we arrived. The rustic cabin was clean, cozy and warming up for us. Lots and lots of powder snow so we had great skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing. Cabin is well stocked with supplies and gorgeous views outside the windows including the bird feeder stocked with chickadees for our entertainment. Garage came in handy for our vehicle so we didn't have to brush off all the snow. We didn't nordic ski but there are trails close by. Cabin had a great game called Minotauer which entertained us for two evenings. I enjoyed my daily yoga routine each morning in the loft with the scenic view and morning sunshine warming my skin. We'll return again!

Perfect Christmas Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We were first met at the cabin by Christopher ( not sure if timing was perfect or if he greets everyone), he had the heat going ( which was great because we arrived in sub zero freakish cold), the driveway was plowed ( yeah, snow too), & quickly gave us an instructional tour, showed us the tree stand for the Christmas tree he told our 6 year olds they could cut & got out of our hair ( he wasn’t actually in our hair, but he left us to our own) . So, he was awesome.

There was food in the fridge for weary travelers, emergency toothbrushes ( for nimrod teenagers), & even some vodka for adults who spent too long in a car. In other words, needs were met.

The cabin is clean & cozy & just a 9 minutes drive ( on icy & snow packed roads) to Bridger Bowl & about a 25 minute drive on said crappy roads to downtown Bozeman.

Plenty of room on the property to play & roam & many amazing hiking trails within minutes from the cabin.

If you want simple, cozy & convenient, this is your place. Did I mention the owners are super cool?

Secluded & Quiet Cabin

  • 4 of 5

If you are looking to get away and really "unplug" this cabin is for you. Wonderful views and a quiet setting set back from the road. About a 20-25 minute drive outside of Bozeman, but close to great hiking and camp sites.

But if you need to stay connected to the outside world beware the data charges! There is a 1GB limit for your stay and you have to pay for additional usage. Checking email and texting pretty much eclipsed that limit within 2 days of our stay and we were told we were over the cabin limit!

I would definitely recommend this property to people looking to get off the grid! Owners were very responsive and their check in/out directions were very easy. You should really be staying here for the views from the porch and the secluded nature of the cabins location.

Quiet cabin with modern amenities

  • 5 of 5

Dark skies, quiet area except for sounds of nature, truly rustic log cabin with everything you would need. The cabin was a very welcoming sight after traveling and staying within Yellowstone park. Very relaxing atmosphere with great views. Loved being able to wash laundry to take home and grill our own food! Played games, read books, caught some sun on the deck while the boys went fishing, best part of our trip!

Beauty and relaxation

  • 5 of 5

This was my second time at the Five Firs cabin and I look forward to my next opportunity to stay there. The location is away from the road, private and absolutely beautiful. The cabin itself is comfortable and charming. We enjoyed watching the birds and other wildlife. I loved sitting on the deck outside with my coffee in the morning. In other words this is the perfect place to unplug and relax. Christoper is a welcoming and accommodating host. We had everything we needed.
