About Tami Morton

Johnny and Tami Morton purchased this little paradise in 2010 to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Both involved in multiple business ventures, it was a gift to come home in the evening and unwind in this beautiful serene setting. It was like being miles from nowhere yet close if necessary. We loved the cabin so much we decided to share it with others. We live very close and take much pride in ownership. We hope you love it and care for it the same as we do.

Tami Morton purchased this cabin in 2010

Why Tami Morton chose Marthasville

Rebecca Lane is in the middle of nowhere, but actually close to everything. St. Louis is 45 minutes, Washington is 10 minutes, and downtown Marthasville which has practically everything you would need in 3 minutes. Why not this property????

What makes this cabin unique

Only log cabin of its kind in this area. Built from 10" logs. Large and spacious, lake front, woods to wander in, chimanea to watch fires in, firepit to have open fires for roasting hotdogs, smores and more, berries to pick, fish to feed, wildlife such as deer, fox, raccoons, herons, skunks, turtles, muskrats, hummingbirds and wild birds too numerous to name. A real outdoor paradise for nature lovers.

IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE: The cabin is filled with taxidermy animals. WE DID NOT KILL ANY OF THESE. They were victims of traffic accidents, purchased at auctions, or donated to us by conservationists. We thought this would be a great way for adults and children alike to see wildlife up close without ever feeling the need to harm a live animal. They are also unable to grow new hair so we ask that you do not handle of pet. If taxidermy animals bother you, the cabin is probably not a good fit. Thank you.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My birthday gathering was at the cabin. It was so wonderful. I highly recommend this place! Cozy, comfortable, serene! The view of the pond is so calming. I can't rave about it enough. Stay here. It's great!!

This awesome cabin is close enough to something for everyone. St. louis zoo, Shaws Nature Reserve, Grants Farm, Six Flags, as well as Daniel Boones' Monument, Daniel Boones' home, and an historic village being reconstructed with 2 miles of cabin. There is also the katy trail, shopping, eateries, wineries and more. The other services listed above are booked and paid separately by traveler. You can even hire a limo for a day to tour the wineries. Great way to spend a safe carefree day in wine country.

Great cozy log cabin for the family!

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful cabin and was excellent for our family's Thanksgiving getaway. The pictures currently on the listing actually don't do it justice. The cabin felt right at home for all of us. My niece loved being able to sit outside on the canoe reading a book and enjoying the morning sunshine (in short sleeves on Thanksgiving morning), while another ran around the pond flying a kite, and someone else shooting arrows nearby. One of us sat on the roof to get 4G (because anywhere else on the property the cell service is poor), and others enjoyed being able to relax on the deck or in the gorgeous rustic living space, or take a walk down the lane. The kitchen and bathrooms were well-stocked. The whole place was nicely decorated, too.

Tips for guests:

- Bring your own drinking water. The water here is safe to drink. but the hot water smells like sulfur. This also applies to the showers as well. The upstairs shower hot water smells more like sulfur than downstairs.

- Be careful (especially if you bring kids) with the couches in the living room. They slide very easily across the wooden floor.

- There is a lot of taxidermy. It didn't bother us at all, but just be aware.

- Indoor fireplace is not safe and thus not functional. When I booked this property, I did not see this on the listing, and found this information to be hidden as it would only display when I hovered my mouse over the Fireplace category.

- Cabin has DSL internet and it is not reliable at this time. When it does work, it is very slow, almost like dial-up.

- Cellular service is very poor in this location, but it's great to have a landline phone.

- Front door can be a little hard to lock using the keypad, but it's not a major issue.

- During our stay the outside air smelled pretty foul at times, kind of like a farm. I didn't notice any farms nearby. Not a big deal, but just FYI if that is going to bother you.

Despite the above issues, the cabin was so great and we had a nice time being together as a family. Tami was great to work with during the booking and preparation. Wonderful family memories made here!

Owner's Response: Sorry for the slow thank you. Your nice review and rating somehow got lost in the holiday season. thank you for all the helpful feedback. We have corrected everything that we can control. No control over water table or internet. Petticoat Junction is a beautiful place but has a few disadvantages:(. Thanks again for the 5-star. That means alot to us. We hope to see you again.

Loved our stay

  • 4 of 5

Our daughter got married at Lake Creek Winery (literally 5 minutes from the cabin) and this cabin was PERFECT!

My daughter and son in law did not want to leave! It was everything they love.

Tami was very helpful to our needs.

Bring your own shampoo and conditioner though! Not one of us packed any as I was used to having it provided.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback. We are glad you liked the cabin. Even though we thought we had thought of everything, we did not think of shampoo or conditioner. I guess I assumed everyone has their own hair care preference. Luckily, there is a small store a mile away for those that don't. Sorry if this caused you any inconvenience. Have a great day.

Incredible property in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

This property was everything we needed it to be for our 3 night stay to relax and unwind from a pretty intense business event we attended the previous 3 days. Absolutely loved the Master Suite with the amazing view....and a great little nook area to even get some work done overlooking an incredibly serene setting (from both the kitchen nook and the master bedroom nook). We visited several vineyards & wineries and were bummed we didn't have more time to see them all as we were quite impressed with how many there were! So it's on the list to come back to check them out and we'd certainly love to stay here again. Internet connection is spotty in different spots of the home and inconsistent amongst different devices, but hey we wanted to get away from it all anyway, right? LOL! The only disappointment was the fireplace not working as we actually had the first cold day of the season that would have really been nice to have a fire crackling. No throw blankets around, but we turned up the heat and it was absolutely fine and cozy no problem. Kitchen stocked just fine and we were glad to have a washer & dryer available. Our bed in the master suite was amazing comfortable with super quality linens...upper level bed not so much (very squeaky & small per the couple who joined us and who considered switching to the other bedroom on the main level). Typically you worry about water pressure or hot water availability out in rural areas, but NO issues with that whatsoever and that was much appreciated. It's simply just a beautiful area and a beautiful property! Definitely check out Augusta Winery for an incredible Chambourcin both in taste and pricing...we loved so much we'll probably have them ship it to us! The closest vineyard, Lake Creek Winery, has great wine and a FABULOUS menu and we thoroughly enjoyed a full dinner there overlooking an incredible view as it sits high on a hill! We highly recommend this place and would certainly book again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback and for writing such a nice review. The fireplace thing IS really a bummer as I also LOVE fires. We were going to have it cleaned and repaired but when we put the cabin in VRBO the insurance refused to insure the property if we made it functional. We have three different types of coverage (with 2 different companies) and they all said the same thing. After thinking about the rule, it kind of made sense that not everyone (over 2000 guests so far) is knowledgeable and cautious about fire safety, popping embers, burning trash, green wood, gas, charcoal lighter and the list goes on........especially in a dry seasoned log cabin. There are a lot of throws in the linen closet upstairs and I apologize for not realizing it was time to bring them down. Have never heard that about the upstairs bed, but will certainly look into and take care of it and it will be ready for your next stay. lol. You were great guests and we do hope to see you again. Have a great day.
