About Irma Hinchcliff

For the past 40 plus years we have been living on the Big Island where we raised our children and now enjoy our time with our grand children. Originally from Kauai, I relocated to the Big Island to start a new life and where I met my husband.

Together we have owned many homes on the Big Island. We found Kaloko to be a type of sanctuary in that while we are close to all the amenities that the Kona Coast offers, we could return to our home where we enjoyed the cool temperatures and breezes that the area offers.

Irma Hinchcliff purchased this house in 2008

Why Irma Hinchcliff chose Kailua-Kona

This one bedroom, one bath custom home is situated on a property of some 3 acres with spectacular ocean views and beautiful sunsets. Centrally located one can enjoy all the amenities and activities that the Kona Coast offers as well as easy access to and from the Kohala Coast as well as Kamuela (Waimea) Town where you can take advantage of the beautiful beaches as well as shopping and restaurants. Kona has some of the most beautiful beaches in the islands. At 1900 feet, the temperature is approximately 3-4 or 5 degrees cooler than at the ocean level, for each 1000 feet.

What makes this house unique

While you enjoy the quiet beauty of the Kaloko area with the many lush plants and flowers that are unique to this area, you are but minutes to Kailua Kona town with many restaurants and shopping. You also can take a drive to Old Waimea Town, known as Kamuela, which means Samuel in Hawaiian and named after Samuel Parker who was a major landowner and businessman on the island of Hawaii, heir to the Parker Ranch estate. He became involved in politics at a critical time of the Kingdom of Hawaii, serving in its last cabinet. The Big Island is home to some of the best beaches and pristine waters. One reason that the beaches here on the Kona side are generally considered better is because it is sunnier on the West side of the Island. In fact, the Kona coast is considered the sunniest spot in the United States. As you walk along the coastal trails, keep your eye out for many of the plants that are native to Hawaii. Watch for the fragrant pua maia with its flowers of white which was used for medicine and to help set broken bones. Growing along the lava, you may spot the lavender pohuehue, a native beach morning glory. Walk under the shade of the gracious hala tree, whose leaves are used to weave mats and baskets. Native plants may be either indigenous, meaning that they are found in our island chain as well as other places in the world, or endemic meaning that they are found only in the Hawaiian Islands

The night sky on a clear night bring in the beautiful starry nights along with the cool breezes that are a welcome during the warmer summer months here in Kona.

Beautiful, clean and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was very enjoyable. Irma had everything available to make us comfortable and met us upon arrival. She was so friendly and informative and we felt at home right away. The gift basket was a very thoughtful touch. The house was very well equipped and we enjoyed our time very much. Thanks for such a wonderful place to visit.

Perfect for a getaway

  • 5 of 5

The property was perfectly clean and very well maintained. Irma made us feel comfortable and was available for anything we needed. The property is in a very quiet gated community and is very secure and peaceful. We really liked not being down in Kialua-Kona but still being only a few minutes from Ali'i drive. I would recommend Irma's place for a great getaway, especially for a couple. There are a million things to do in the area and I would recommend snorkeling, eating a whole bunch of good food, and just relaxing. We would love to come back and stay at Irma's! Thanks Irma!

Great nice clean property with a nice view

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this property. The house was very nice, spacious and clean with all the required amenities. It has nice view of the ocean and beautiful flowers/garden that is very refreshing to the mind. The host Irma is very kind and nice. She took out the time to greet us in the beginning and also on the day we were leaving she met us with nice hand made garlands. She was very helpful with any questions and concerns we had. The only thing that would make it a complete house is if it would have a full kitchen. It had microwave, refrigerator, gas grill but a cooking gas would make it more perfect. It really did not matter to us since we stayed there for 3 nights and mostly ate outside but people with longer stay might need a full kitchen. Other that that everything was perfect. My 6 year old son had enough space to play and he was very happy.

Regards

Immaculate, private accommodation with stunning ocean view.

  • 5 of 5

Irma’s suite is beautiful. This is an extremely well kept, modern and private place to getaway from the tourist scene near the water. The cooler temperature from the higher elevation is so welcoming. Irma is a very attentive host, with helpful suggestions. She generously provided Kona coffee, macadamia chocolates, fruit, and water on our arrival. I would most certainly stay here again when next visiting the Big Island.

Sunsets and Serenity, a perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed being here rather than nearer the water. What was particulary perfect was the temperature. It was very warm in Kona but at roughly 1800 feet we never felt overheated or uncomfortable.

Irma was a perfect host, her rental is spacious and spotless. You can relax here on comfortable couches or enjoy meals outside on the patio with a beautiful ocean view. Most of our dinners were during sunsets, the ambiance was fantastic. At night, stargazing is unbelievable.

It is very private, a must for us, in a nice neighborhood with lots of follage. You can walk around the area and there is a hiking trail further up Koloko Dr. Driving to town takes10 to 15 minutes and Costco located below the property about 10 minutes. Traffic can be heavy at times during the commutes but we planned around most of them.

Two nice beaches are near, Pine Trees and Ai’opio beach at Honokohau Harbor.

The kitchen is small but well equiped and a barbeque on the patio got lots of use grilling all of the available fresh fish .

You will love staying here, Irma will make sure of that!

My Husband and I absolutely loved staying in Irma's Guest House during our Honeymoon. THANK YOU Irma for the wonderful welcome and thoughtful extras! The house was SO clean, super spacious and very comfortable. We had everything we needed (and then some). We had total privacy and the location was very convenient, yet quiet and serene. We felt very safe and right at home. We are so excited to come back to Hawaii ASAP and would love love LOVE to stay here again!!! (Irma- Thanks again for sharing your slice of paradise with us; we wish you & your family all the best!)
