Cabin on 38 acres part of which is an active Christmas Tree Farm and the rest is wooded mountain. The property is bucolic, featuring an old barn, mountain stream and pond. Beautiful views of the Green Mountains. There is a fire pit w. plenty of wood and tongs for roasting marshmallows. Ideal for hiking, snowshoeing then realxing by cozy new woodstove in the great room. Or relax in one of the hammocks listening to the creek meander by. A short ride to Quaint Old Bennington and Charming Manchester. Please note that this is an active Christmas Tree Farm so there may be a farmer or two tending the trees while you are there- but you probably won't even notice them. #MountMeMo

About susan cicala

My husband and I have been married for 35 years and have 4 grown children who live around the country. We live full time in Delaware, but get to the cabin as often as possible. We have used VRBO many times and enjoy the personal touches that they offer.

susan cicala purchased this cabin in 2014

Why susan cicala chose Shaftsbury

We were looking for some land in charming Vermont, when we came upon this slice of heaven. We are so thrilled with the cabin and the area, that we just bought the house next door. We would love to have you experience the wonderful scenery and serenity found here.

What makes this cabin unique

Although the cabin is compact, it is comfortable for at least 6 people. There is one bedroom (queen) and a charming, private sleeping nook off of the kitchen (double). It has a large window that looks out over the property and the night sky. Up a steep ladder there are two small areas with 3 twin bds. (Please note, that it takes some effort to climb the ladder, so not suitable for small children or elderly) In addition to the refreshing outdoor shower there is a full indoor bath w tub/shower, laundry facilities and lots of vanity counter space for your toiletries.

The kitchen area is small but well equipped- my husband likes to cook so all the utensils are there. As are serving pieces etc. The eating area seats 6 comfortably, but you may find yourself eating at the picnic table by the pond more often than not.

Note that this is an active Christmas Tree Farm, so there may be a farmer or two tending to the trees. But no worries you probably won't even notice them if they are there.

Great property and cozy home

  • 4 of 5

We decided to take a ski trip last min to Vermont and couldn't find a place to stay local, but after searching HomeAway, this home came up.

We were a little concerned about the time it would take to get to Mount Snow, but all in all it was a beautiful ride and not very long to get there.

The house was cozy and had a very farm house feel to it which was great! the master bedroom was cozy and the bed was very comfortable. The Sleeping area in the Kitchen was cozy for teens or young adults, and the loft upstairs was on the smaller size and would only be good for young children. The stairs and access to the upstairs loft was a little tight and tricky so be careful.

the property was amazing with a stream and pond that was running constantly, it really created a great atmosphere and I could see myself sitting there for hours. There were also some great trails to hike.

couple of things to watch out for were the roads getting there, it was a snowy first day and then it rained which caused the roads to become soft and trenched. We actually saw a car stuck in the middle of the road while going out one night. We had a 4x4 so no issues for us, and I don't see this being a normal issue.

all in all a great stay and somewhere I would visit again.

Great, isolated location in VT

  • 4 of 5

This was our first extended trip to Vermont, and while it was a particularly warm, 80-degree Columbus Day weekend, the cabin at the Christmas Tree farm was a great place to stay. The layout is great, the amenities more than well kept, and the setting is fabulous. There's a multitude of places to explore and hang out just on the property itself. The area is great as well, nice and quiet without feeling too isolated. We even saw George RR Martin hunting while driving out to the cabin (thought my wife insists it was Santa Claus).

There were only two small caveats future renters should be aware of:

1. The ladder to the lofted beds is pretty steep; it may be dangerous for little kids, particularly if they need to get up during the night and pee.

2. There's guinea fowl on the property. While they didn't bother us the first day, they were all up in our business they second day. A little too close for comfort and they can get a bit noisy.

Beautiful Property, Homey Cabin in Green Mountains :)

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cabin and property! The photos don't do it justice! Is very homey and has all the basic amenities that you need for a weekend getaway. Susan was amazing, checking in with us periodically to make sure we had no issues but at the same time we felt we had complete privacy. Perfect VT getaway--right smack dab in the middle of the green mountains with tons of hiking/outdoor opportunities but close enough to some towns (manchester, bennington) if you wanted to go shopping or have dinner. You won't regret staying here!

Peace and relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

The cabin and surroundings are incredibly gorgeous! Did nothing but lay in the sun, eat, drink, walk amongst the trees, have fires and relax. The outdoor shower was a nice amenity. Home was fully stocked with the essentials and was quite comfortable. Highly recommended. My yellow lab Douglas enjoyed swimming in the pond. A little cold for humans but refreshing nonetheless. Surrounded by pretty yellow irises and blue forget me nots. A true outdoorsy dream!

Overall, what we were looking for

  • 4 of 5

The title of "Charming Cabin - Beautiful Setting" is aptly titled. The cabin was actually nicer than anticipated based on the pictures. The living room is huge and cozy with the wood stove. The creek and pond are very clear and you can hear the creek flowing from anywhere on the property. Property was perfect for the dogs to run around and explore. There is also a nice short hike up the back of the property. Only issue was the amount of flies in the cabin, but it didn't detract that much from our stay.
