Overview

About the property

One Bedroom/One Bath Private Cabin With All The Amenities

If an alternative experience of Hawaii is what you're seeking then this is the place for you. Come experience this cute cozy cabin nestled in the woods, surrounded by tall Ohi'a trees and lots of tropical birds to serenade you. Situated on the edge of the Volcano National Park, at 2000' elevation (which means it might get a bit chilly at times), on a very private, peaceful, gated 20 acre piece of land on the Southern most part of the Big Island. Located half way between Kona and Hilo with grocery stores and restaurants nearby, 30 miles from the Hawaii Volcano National Park where you can view the lava going into the ocean, 15 miles from the famous Green Sands Beach and Punalu'u the black sand beach where you'll find Hawaiian Hawksbill turtles sunning on the sand.

The cabin has one bedroom with a queen size bed, a futon couch/bed in the living room, one bathroom with plenty of on demand hot water, a complete kitchen and is completely self sufficient and off the grid - solar power, water catchment, propane appliances. Linens, dishes, pots and pans, a blender, and a coffee press are available for your convenience. Since the power is from the sun, no hair dryer, curling iron, or things of that nature can be used. There's a DVD player with a variety of movies for your entertainment. Most cell phones work here and will pick up the internet.

Smoking permitted outside only. Please no outside guests or visitors or pets.

About Connie Flood

I've lived on the Big Island since 1976 and can't imagine living anywhere else. I'm an avid gardener and this place shows it. I'm also an animal lover and have 4 dogs who are my best friends. It's so nice to be able to share this amazing piece of paradise with others.

Why Connie Flood chose Naalehu

This piece of the island is very special because it's situated in an old forest untouched before I got here. Although it seems like you're in the middle of nowhere when you're here, you're not far from two small towns that have most everything you may need. The property borders the Volcano National Park and is not far from the famous Green Sand Beach and the Black Sand Beach. It's a perfect spot to be if you want to be away from the touristy places in town.

What makes this cabin unique

The cabin is completely private and peaceful yet not far from the nearest town.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Connie welcomed me with open arms and provided me with an experience I will remember forever! Her cottage, which became my home for four days, was cozy, clean, comfortable and ever so peaceful, surrounded by incredible plants and trees that went on forever. I have never been more at ease and happy in a new surrounding as this darling home. Connie made herself available, had everything one could ask for in the cottage, should I need, and was the finest host I have ever met! What a wonderful experience, thanks so much Connie!

Peaceful and beautiful.

We loved the open air feel of the cabin as well as the abundance of singing birds. The cabin is surrounded by a lovely forest that is alive with life and all kinds of colors. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

Quiet Getaway

  • 5 of 5

This home was the perfect quiet getaway we were looking for. The cabin is cozy but lacks nothing. We enjoyed cooking in the kitchen that had all the items we needed. The peaceful setting was exactly what we were looking for. And it was good to see what it's like to live off grid.

Amazing and away from the digital world! Beautiful and peaceful, Connie's cabin in the woods is great! Great location for exploring the south end of the island. My hubby and I enjoyed staying here.

Completely private cabin on absolutely lovely grounds. We really wish we had more time to explore the property. Our host could not have been more helpful and accommodating. We hope to come back soon

Peaceful, Secluded, and Inspirational Wonderland

  • 5 of 5

Connie's cabin is absolutely sublime! My husband and I stayed for a week's vacation and every part of the experience was perfection. Upon booking, Connie reached out immediately to confirm and send detailed directions from Kona. At check in, she was so warm and welcoming, giving a full tour of the cabin's facilities and offering help by just a phone call away if we needed it. We never needed to call because she was so thoroughly informative at the first meeting. She respected our privacy for the rest of our stay and we got to imagine that this little paradise was all ours for the week. The cabin's location in Naalehu is secluded and very private, accessed by a drive through a gorgeous tropical jungle-like garden on the property. As a launching point, it's ideally located for day trips in each direction, whether it be Captain Cook to the northwest, Southpoint and Green Sands Beach to the south, and Volcano National Park, Hilo, and Puna to the east. It's well worth mentioning that the very popular Punalu'u bakery is only 15 minutes away, so it's likely that every morning will begin with a malasada or two :) The piece-de-resistance is, of course, the cabin itself. It really is the perfect get-away and every feature of the space is a representation of the care and mindfulness of its owner. The cabin is entirely off the grid: electricity is solar, water is from a rain catchment, and the stove is propane. Each installation is an example of how excellent and plentiful these resources are. I was amazed at the solar reserves' responsiveness to the sun. Hot water is on-demand and never runs out; I had a wonderfully hot shower every morning. We cooked every dinner on the propane stove and made incredible coffee on the french press. There is no wifi, but cellular services reach there and I was able to occasionally check the internet. There's a TV and DVD player with a wide and really quality selection of movies - we watched "Broken Flowers", "What the Bleep Do We Know", "The Prestige", and "Bruce Almighty"...there's something for everyone. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of fresh linens. We spent every night talking on the patio deck which is surrounded by a nice sized grass area (perfect for morning yoga) and a lovely tropical landscape humming with crickets and local birds. I could go on and on but instead I'll say that, above all, I found Connie's cabin inspirational with the spirit of mindfulness and creativity evident in every nook.
