About Susan Divers

If you love the water, nature and serenity for good times with family and friends, this is the place. Sunshine Bay is where we gather whenever we can get together. The cottage can be rented separately or with the main house--perfect for family reunions or groups.

We take our skiff or the kayaks out to deserted islands for barbeques and picnics in the summer then come home for drinks on the porch, a game of croquet and crabs, corn, and tomatoes. In the Fall, we pick apples from the orchards and make pies. Winter brings oyster roasts and festivals at the local wineries. Spring is full of blossoms and nesting birds. The cottage is beautiful and comfortable--not cookie-cutter or sterile. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Why Susan Divers chose Parksley

Walk back in time to when life was lived close to the land and water when you stay at Sunny Bay. There are still working watermen and women in the village. Call and they will bring fresh crabs to the door. Neighbors are welcoming and love to gather on the porch. Stargaze at night with a sparkling display on clear nights. House has docks and a creek leading out to the Bay for easy kayaking or boating (bring your boat and put it in at our ramp and dock. Explore a different deserted island each day. Take the bikes out on the largely flat roads. Visit charming small towns like Onancock and Wachapreague, "the Flounder Fishing Capital of the World (!)" If you are looking for a cycling or kayak holiday, use Sunny Bay as your base. We wanted a beautiful and welcoming place for family and friends and this is it. Come and enjoy its unique charm.

What makes this studio unique

Quiet, peaceful but on the water and close to Parksley and Onancock. Cottage can be rented with listing 741218 for families and large groups, providing plenty of space for fun but privacy as well. Children love the ocean liner bunks, one of which pulls out and pops up to make a king size bed.

The Hunting Creek area of the Chesapeake features many deserted islands with sandy beaches. Kayakers and boaters visit a different one each day and fish, swim and sunbathe. The area has scenic byways and historic homes that you can reach by bike or car. The local restaurants are authentic, including the Club Car in Parksley that slow roasts ribs and the upscale Charlotte in Onancock that is Zagat rated. Local oysters come in many varieties. For the really adventurous, take you boat or kayak to Wachapregue and visit Cedar Island, one of the barrier chain that faces on the Atlantic and is uninhabited.

The cottage is near prime fishing spots where flounder, trout, rockfish and other fish abound. It's also 40 minutes by boat or ferry to Tangier Island, a community of 500 watermen and their families that dates to the 1680s. Ferries to Tangier leave from Onancock each day in summer. Chincoteague, famous in the lovely children's books about the wild ponies, is 35 minutes away. We almost always spot ponies when we go there. Wallops Island, now a major rocket center with a museum, is 35 minutes away for the space enthusiasts in your family. Stay at Sunny Bay and catch the next satellite launch.
