Family-Friendly, Pet-Friendly, Tree-Surrounded Tahoe City Vacation Home

Bedrooms 3
Property type cabin
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom With Mountain Views And 6 Person Hot Tub

With room for 8 - 12 guests (and two dogs), this newly renovated Tahoe City vacation home offers a comfortable homebase in the desirable Talmont Estates neighborhood.

This tree-surrounded cabin has been completely remodeled: our kitchen now has granite countertops and new stainless steel appliances. We updated the bathrooms to have new vanities and all beds have been replaced to ensure a more comfortable stay.

This elegantly-rustic cabin in the woods features a private, six-person hot tub, a river rock fireplace, WiFi, and a flatscreen TV. Best of all, Lake Tahoe beaches are a short four-mile drive or bike ride away!

Located along the west shore of Lake Tahoe, Tahoe City is an easy 20-minute drive away from Homewood, Alpine Meadows or Squaw Valley resorts for skiing, and near hiking and biking trails during the other times of the year. In dry, sunny weather you can walk to Paige Meadows to view wildflowers or head to the Tahoe City Golf Course for an afternoon out on the green.

When you're not off on a Tahoe adventure, this lovely vacation home in the woods offers slanted, wood-beamed ceilings, an open main level floor plan, and a full kitchen for preparing vacation meals. Out on the spacious deck you can soak in the hot tub while the snow falls down or in drier weather, use the gas grill to make some steaks for dinner.

The three bedrooms at this Mountaintop Lounge home are all on the lower level and include a master with a California king bed and private bathroom, an additional queen bedroom, and a bunk room for the kids! We have extra mattresses available for additional guests :) And if you do want to bring along your furry family members, two dogs are welcome with a $10 per day, per pet fee (with a $40 minimum fee per stay).

Additional amenities include a brand new washer and dryer, Netflix streaming, a DVD player, board games, cable, and a stereo with a CD player. All of the comforts from home, but in a beautiful vacation rental just minutes from gorgeous, blue Lake Tahoe!

This Tahoe City retreat is just perfect for a family getaway - dogs included! Year-round there is so much to do (please note that in winter a four-wheel drive or AWD may be required to reach the vacation home safely), that you may even have trouble deciding how to spend your vacation days!

Whether you visit North Lake Tahoe to ski and snowshoe or hike and golf, this Tahoe City vacation home is loaded with great amenities and is just minutes from both skiing and beaches.

Good property, but frustrating first night

  • 2 of 5

The house itself is lovely, and once inside, we had a very nice stay. We have no complaints at all about the house.

The problem was getting in the first night. There is only one non-stop flight to Reno from NYC, and it arrives late. We got to the house at 1am, exhausted and ready to sleep, in order to get up the next day to ski. We were given a 4 digit code for the lock box, but when we tried to apply it, we couldn’t push the buttons in, and some buttons were already pushed in and wouldn’t come up.

We didn’t know what to do. We were tired, and it was 6 degrees - we would take turns to warm up in the car, while someone tried to push the buttons in with a screwdriver. We started to wonder if we had the wrong code or if it was simply broken. We tried to call the property manager, but understandably, she didn’t answer. At this stage, now around 2.15am, we thought the four of us would be sleeping in the car with the engine on.

We drove to a gas station to try one last thing and got a large cup of hot water. 45 minutes later, back at the house, the hot water did the trick. We got in at 3.15am.

The property manager and the owner have been sympathetic and respond promptly, but have been clear that this was a one-off problem beyond their control. Their view is that this is just "one of those things" that is part of the risk of booking a rental property and arriving as late as we did.

As customers, we paid for the night, and we were entitled to trouble-free access to the house (no matter what time it is). Even if we had immediately worked out that the lock was frozen, it was still a 45 minute trip to get hot water. We were cold and exhausted. To have the property manager act like our inability to get into the house was our problem and not hers was, to us, unfair.

It's my belief that a partial refund for the first night would have been reasonable. I had a 30 minute phone call with the owner, and I appreciated he took the time to make the call. He did not, however, share my view that any sort of compensation would be appropriate. I'm not sure, but I think he felt I was being unreasonable in my expectations.

I do recommend this property, as it's comfortable, clean and convenient to ski fields and Tahoe City. It's extremely likely that if you choose this property, you'll have an excellent experience. My complaint is entirely with how the property manager and owner responded to our first night difficulties.

Owner's Response: Hi Daniel, I apologize that you were not 100% satisfied with your experience. The cabin owner and I did our best we could to accommodate you and provide the quickest and best customer service. I am glad to hear you loved the cabin and would recommend the house to any guest in the future. Thanks!

Sweet Cabin close to Lake Tahoe!

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was great for my family vacation. It has just about everything you need for a fun-filled time. The hot tub was a big hit for the kids and adults (it was worth the extra $100 fee), and the fireplace makes for a cozy conversation (but bring your own wood). There are beautiful views right outside of your windows, and the lake and the town are very close to the house. The Property Manager was friendly and very easy to deal with. The only advice I have for anyone who stays here is to make sure there are enough beds for everyone, the couches upstairs both pull out into beds but as far as actual beds (in bedrooms) there are only 4, so make sure that works for your group. We hope to stay here again in the future!

Great Time at the Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 11 had a great time at the cabin. The living room and dining area were spacious, which was great for everyone to fit for hanging out and playing games. Bedrooms were nice, and the kitchen was too. Would stay here again. Thanks!

Beautiful Location, great cabin

  • 5 of 5

We had 10 people stay and had a wonderful time! The house was very accommodating, the kitchen was fully stocked. Everything was very clean. The best part about the place was being so close to wilderness. There are trails a couple houses down where you can cross country ski, snowshoe or hike. Very beautiful terrain and peaceful. Overall it was a wonderful place to rent. I'd go back and stay there again!
