About this property

Spectacular Ocean Views, Privacy and Resident Managers!

Perched 200 feet above the blue Caribbean, where the tradewind always blows, with panoramic views of St. Thomas, St. Croix, Buck Island and French Cap Cay as well as Crown Bay and the cruise ship port to the north, this charming, romantic hideaway will provide an unforgettable vacation in Paradise! Water Island is just a short ten-minute ferry ride from St. Thomas and its shops, restaurants and other attractions, yet completely insulated from the busy tourist destination when privacy and quiet is what you crave. Relax knowing that Rachael and Doug, our managers, are available 24/7 to address any special needs or requirements when resident managers are not in residence. Honeymoon Beach, Heidi's Honeymoon Grill and the ferry dock are all a half-mile walk away, but renting a golf cart from Rachael when booking is highly recommended for easier access and island-wide exploring.

Hated to leave
Our family of four (with adult kids 19 and 21) stayed for 11 nights over Christmas. We left Water Island just a couple times to explore and get food, but spent most of the time at Honeymoon Beach, which is perfect. Go early to snag one of the free palapas. The house is well stocked for beach and for cooking, but plan your food purchases well. Renting a golf cart was worth it. There’s a Pueblo grocery store 3 minutes walk from ferry in Charlotte Amalie. Heidi’s was great food but limited hours. Dinghy’s was good too. The views from the house are amazing. Doug was great, immediately took care of the one minor problem we had. Highly recommend. They even had a cribbage board!

The Perfect Getaway with Breathtaking Views
This is definitely part of our top 5 family vacations in the past 20 years. My husband and I with our 3 young adult children, 21,19, 17(now 22,19,18 after our vacation) traveled to Water Island to take a step back from our busy lives and spend quality time together as a family. This is the perfect location to do just that. Tony was the best host!!! Doug, the resident manager, was very pleasant and attentive. He texted us to make sure our flight was on time and met us at the ferry. The transition and getting settled in the house was very smooth. He even shared details of life on the island and told us where to go to find whatever we needed. There were a few minor issues, but he rectified them immediately and the “act of God” we experienced - sargassum seaweed was out of his control. -Internet went out(Doug came right up to the house and reset the router and showed us how to restart it if we had any other issues with the internet) -Needed paper towels(Doug apologized for the inconvenience and brought them right away and even left an extra roll 😊) Something to consider: If you are afraid of bugs or small reptiles then you should probably consider staying in St Thomas at the Ritz Carlton or a tourist location. We saw plenty of tortoises and small lizards at the property and on the island. The only con: The ferry ride back and forth to Water Island can be costly if you are traveling with a large family. Overall great getaway with spectacular views. Hoping to return soon.

Unbelievable views!!
Outstanding location for a panoramic view of the Crown bay area. It’s elevation ensures a solid Caribbean breeze which you can channel through the home via large sliding glass doors. The home is build to withstand the elements. A fabulous vacation spot that did not disappoint. The host and property manager are very knowledgeable, accommodating and responsive. Tips: 1-Gold cart rental for your stay is a must. It’s the only way to explore the island unless you really like hills. 2-The ferry schedule to and from water island can dictate your activities unless you opt for a private service which will cost you. 3-Take advantage of the on island eating locations.

Great place
You will love the view and the house. It has everything you need to get away and the view is awesome being able to see the St. Thomas, parts of the Water Island and looking out into the sea. It is just beautiful to wake up and go to sleep in this beautiful house.

Why they chose this property

Caribview's owners have a fifty-year connection with Water Island; they purchased Caribview in 2002 as their second home in the winter. They believe that Water Island is uniquely blessed both in its proximity to and in its isolation from St. Thomas, as well as in its small and close-knit community.

What makes this property unique

Caribview is a unique island house. Unlike many Water Island reinforced concrete structures, which date back to the 1940’s and were built by the U. S. Army as military housing, the design of Caribview was based on a novel concept when it was built in the early sixties. Instead of specifying small, rectangular windows closed by glass or wooden jalousies, Caribview’s architect borrowed from modern skyscraper design principles to utilize a framework of steel columns supporting glass jalousie curtain walls, featuring spectacular views from its vantage point high above the Caribbean. Wrecked in Hurricane Hugo in 1989, Caribview gained a new lease on life in 1992 when its owners restored the architect’s original concept in new construction meeting or exceeding Dade County, Florida, building codes. Gone are the fragile glass jalousies, to be replaced by heavy floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows and sliding glass doors that can withstand 200 mph winds. While Caribview affords several comfortable outdoor seating areas, including what may be the most beautiful outdoor dining area on the island, it is upon entering the house that one’s breath is taken away. Panoramic views sweeping from St. Croix on a clear day, forty miles to the south, to several smaller islets and cays in the middle distance to the southeast, to St. Thomas and the busy harbor of Crown Bay in the north. Guests will see the world’s largest cruise ships enter and leave Crown Bay, transiting West Gregerie Channel, while East Gregerie Channel, separating Water Island from Hassel Island to the east, accommodates a constant flow of local smaller vessel traffic. At Caribview, one feels surrounded by extraordinary views and intimately aware of the endless variety of maritime weather experienced from dawn to sunset.
