Overview

About the property

Modern flair in art-filled home in forest of E. AVL - 7 min. to Biltmore/dwntwn.

House is a 10 min. drive to downtown Asheville, 7 min. to Biltmore Village, 5 min. to BRP and US40. UBER is available.

House is full of beautiful original art from around the world, *including several nudes*, objet d'art and custom furniture and decor. A designer by trade, I lived in and worked on this house for more than a decade and poured a great deal of creative spirit into making it a one-of-a-kind property; contemporary finishes and unique details abound.

The house is not suitable for families with children under 10. There is open alcohol in the bar, there are adult touches here and there like an art collection with several (very tasteful) nudes, & fragile objet d'art on low shelves. There are also 'adult toys' like the dark-cherry pool table, and a functioning 1929 slot machine, as well as walnut furniture and white bed spreads. Please mention that you've read this if traveling with kids.

Well-trained pets considered on a case-by-case basis. This is an up-scale domicile designed for discriminating adults (who like to party); please read reviews to get a sense of what our guests think of our home.

HOUSE OFFERS - 4 private rooms; two with private baths and two which share a bath. Three of the beds are queens, and one is a king. Mattresses are comfortable, linens are provided.

PROPERTY OFFERS - screened-in sleeping/yoga room in woods, bog with deck in the woods below the house with salamanders, dragonflies, crayfish and endless ferns & flowers. Read more about bog below.

KITCHEN

The updated kitchen boasts concrete counter tops, and acid-washed copper back splashes with a granite island and a propane cook top. There are proper knives and dish wear for cooking as well as a gas stove and a double oven.

LIVING ROOM

There are wood floors and high ceilings with a contemporary Scandinavian wood stove as a center piece. The hearth is steel with a cultured stone/coral behind. There is a ceiling fan skylights (light-tubes) and comfortable seating.

LOUNGE

The downstairs offers a 4th bedroom and party space. Everything is completely custom - from original-design and custom-built 7' light fixtures, curved walled shower, and a bar made from steel, poured concrete and granite. There is a 1920 slot machine and a beautiful pool table, the downstairs has a private entry. The (2-car) garage is accessed through this space.

THE DECK

There is a 40' south-facing deck which is suitable for (private) sun-bathing and al-fresco meals at a travertine table below an umbrella. Deck has a fire pit AND a charcoal grill.

THE BOG

There is a deck in "the bog" down below the house, where 3-4 brooks and springs come together. There is rich (seasonal) world down there; teaming with crayfish, dragonflies, salamanders and their ilk. All around are plants, flowers, ferns, birds and lots of privacy. There is even a screened-in building "the temple" suitable for eating, sleeping, yoga, meditation, reading etc.

The driveway is *streets of San Francisco STEEP*, which is common of mountain homes in the mountains. In the rare occasion that we get a heavy snow, people all over the region tend to leave their cars at the end of the driveway near the road, so little to no shoveling is required.

About Trip Huxley

When people ask me where I'm from, I tell them I'm cosmopolitan homeless. I've lived in 7 states and all but 2 continents. I settled in AVL in 2003, drawn by the people, beauty, climate, art and music.

A designer by trade, I've poured over a decade of my life into this property making it unique and comfortable. My wife and I live a few miles away.

Trip Huxley purchased this house in 2003

Why Trip Huxley chose Asheville

The house on Bee Ridge has the five things that I look for in a house -

1. Buried in the woods

2. Seven to ten minutes to town

3. Wood floors

4. High ceilings

5. Fire place (wood stove)

6. Killer art collection

7. Lots of fun spaces to party

I've worked as a designer most of my life and hold a degree in Environmental Design and Architecture.

In addition to these amenities, I've spent a decade customizing it with custom touches in granite, poured concrete, steel and wood.

The location is ideal for exploring Asheville- all the major roads (240, 40, Blue Ridge Parkway and 74A) are just a few miles away, and East Asheville has the least traffic of any part of Asheville.

What makes this house unique

The house is full of original art and sculpture from all over the world and a very well-equipped kitchen.

There is a deck in "the bog" down below the house, where 3-4 brooks and springs come together. Visitors will find a beautiful setting for enjoying nature. All around are plants, flowers, ferns, dragonflies, birds and lots of privacy. There is even a screened-in building "the temple" suitable for eating, sleeping, yoga, meditation, reading etc.

Great house in the perfect location.

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfect, in excellent condition. The location could not be any better. So close to the city, but still very private and peaceful.

A terrific and welcoming place to stay. A "home away from home"!

  • 5 of 5

Our Asheville stay at your rental was really comfortable, relaxing, and fun. We enjoyed and appreciated the "modern flair in your eclectic art-filled home in the forest". You made some really good custom updates to the house to provide all the needed space and necessities to make it visitor ready. The pool table was a "hit" as well as the "bog". Your suggestions on the variety of restaurants and breweries, activities, and what to see and explore around Asheville were most helpful. Your home will be my first choice to stay when I return to Asheville again...which I hope is soon. Thanks for making our stay a welcoming Asheville experience!

Excellent location; beautiful well equipped home.

  • 5 of 5

Seven of us settled in comfortably for four nights. The home is nicely decorated and beautifully equipped. The selection of condiments and spices are extensive. Downtown is 12-minutes away by car; Biltmore Estate about 20 min.

The Asheville area is known for the Biltmore house, the fantastic restaurants, the dazzling selection of craft breweries, the artistic community, and the rich culture of art and music.

Oh, yeah, and a bunch of weird eccentrics, too, we got that in spades.
