About the property

1 Bedroom/1 Bath, Full Kitchen & Living Room With Private Entrance

G & Z Upcountry Bed & Breakfast Cottage, situated on half an acre in Kula Maui is adjacent to the hosts' 6 acre farm, was completely renovated in 2015 and beautifully appointed.

A large jacaranda and two avocado trees shade the wide open lawn. At an elevation of around 3,000 feet, guests welcome the day as the sun rises over Haleakala and watch the sun set in the ocean or behind Mauna Kahalawai (West Maui Mountains). Guests might even see the green flash when it sets in the ocean.

G & Z offers a rural tropical atmosphere and its convenient location makes it easy to access all that Upcountry and Maui has to offer. It's a place to relax and 'get away from it all,' yet still be within an easy drive to beaches and surf spots.

There are five restaurants just 5 minutes away and another 10 within a 15 minute drive. Kula Country Farm, a two minute walk away, sells local produce and homemade Upcountry products and has the best Halloween pumpkin patch and fun activities for the keiki (kids).

G & Z has on-site free parking and a private entrance. The fully equipped kitchen has a full size range and refrigerator. The dining table can seat 4 comfortably. The bedroom has a King Size bed and the living room has a Queen Size sofa bed. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower. There are two flat screen HDTV with satellite DirecTV service and free wireless internet accessibility. A large shared deck has a BBQ grill and is a perfect place for outdoor dining.

The B & B Suite can accommodate 2 adults and 1 child that is over the age of 5 years old.

On those cool winter evenings, guests will enjoy the warmth of the electric fireplace that comfortably heats the cottage and creates a cozy atmosphere.

G & Z Upcountry is a Bed & Breakfast and your hosts will provide your cottage with seasonal fruit and scones or breakfast breads, coffee and tea daily. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, stove, coffee pot and toaster/oven which enable guests to enjoy breakfast at their leisure.

For guests that would enjoy an agritourism experience, G & Z hosts are happy to share their farm where they grow avocados, lemons, limes, pomegranites, pears, figs and coffee. Although the trees are young they are already harvesting avocados and lemons.

Guests that would like to experience planting will be encouraged. Progress photos will be sent to the guests as their plant(s) mature.

G & Z Upcountry looks forward to welcoming you to their B & B cottage. When you stay with G & Z you'll be within minutes of everything Maui has to offer.

G & Z Upcountry Bed & Breakfast does not allow smoking in doors. Accommodations can be made for smoking out-of-doors.

About Marsha

Your hosts have lived in Hawaii for over 40 years and have always called Kula home. Recently retired, Marsha and John are enjoying their farm and family and look forward to sharing their knowledge about Maui with their guests.

Marsha spent over 30 years in Hawaii and Maui's tourism and hospitality industry and loves to 'talk story' with visitors about the islands and especially Maui.

Jeanne The Bread Lady (their sister) has a commercial kitchen on the property where she makes the most delicious scones and breads. Guests will be able to enjoy many of her products while at G & Z Upcountry.

Why Marsha chose Kula

G & Z Upcountry Bed & Breakfast Cottage is centrally located to everything upcountry has to offer. Its rural country location is laid back and relaxed. It's far enough away from the resort areas to be peaceful but close enough to be able to enjoy all that the resorts have to offer.

Guests will love waking up to the sunrise over Haleakala and enjoy the views of the ocean, South Maui and the West Maui Mountains (Mauna Kahalawai).

Friends and family that visit Kula report that the unique ambiance, lifestyle and views are truly something that everyone will enjoy.

Just perfect!!!

  • 5 of 5

Really love it, thanks John and Marsha for all your hospitality. You guys are awesome, my wife and I stayed for a week during our sons wedding in Kula, HI and love this piece of paradise. You made us feel like family, the fresh fruits, coffee, scones and lilikoi jelly (Pasion fruit) are to died for. The cottage is in a perfect location, very relaxing and calm away from the noise and traffic but at the same time not far from the beach, airport and shopping. The fresh cool air at night and the scene are just perfect, we highly recommend the place. Looking forward to stay there again in the future. Best regards!!!!

Thank you John and Marsha for such a lovely stay!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at G & Z Bed & Breakfast was lovely. They are located in Kula with a lovely view of the ocean as well as the low countryside of Haleakala. John met us when we first arrived to welcome us. John and Marsha were so hospitable. They had scones, fruit, water, and coffee for us. The B & B was clean and homey.... My wife and I were made to very much at home, but given full privacy. The friendly welcome and clean accommodations made our decision to come back a necessity when in Maui. I am not one to normally write reviews, but for John and Marsha and their G&Z B&B, I was happy to. I am confident you will enjoy this place.

Amazing hospitality and great location!

  • 5 of 5

We arrived at the cottage after several flights and many hours in transit from the East Coast. John was there to greet us and get us settled even though we were late in the evening arriving. The cottage is very spacious and clean, and John and Marsha always made sure that we had fresh fruit and (amazingly good) breakfast pastries for the mornings. The land is stunning, and we spent more time than we expected to just sitting outside enjoying the views and all the fruit trees. We stayed here primarily for its proximity to the NP for sunrise, but we have decided that the cottage/area is our favorite spot after two weeks of travelling around Hawaii. Thanks so much, John and Marsha!

Quiet, peaceful, enormous, clean property with the most epic vista space you will ever see!

  • 5 of 5

Marsha,

The most gracious and attentive host. Where to even begin.. the land is epic! Between the smell of fruiting trees, the beautiful vistas of the entire island from the front porch, to the most exquisite stars overhead every night, all on the foothills of Haleakala! Up country is where it’s at! The space itself is gorgeous with new, spotless appliances that aided us in cooking a few great meals at home. Fresh fruit and savory baked goods from the land were both very nice touches that allowed us to focus our days on adventure knowing we’d have bellies full of breakfast each morning. Can’t stress enough how quiet the space is at night! We had some of the best sleep we’ve ever had here. This soot is ideal for both traveling all over the island, as we did, or if you’re looking to spend time relaxing in the sun in the enormous, perfectly kept yard. Polipoli hike is so close, and is an absolute must do. And watching the paragliders from the kitchen window was nearly surreal. About 25 mins from Paia and just a few more to Wailea puts this space at the most accessible part of Maui. And- the road to Hana basically ends at the house, a delightful surprise after the most incredible 8 hour drive. We can’t wait to book our next trip here! For two people, you’re unlikely to find anything more lovely with this much accessibility. Mahalo!

A great choice!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Marsha and John’s cottage for two weeks during a Christmas visit to our family in Makawao. The cozy cottage has all the comforts of home: a well stocked modern kitchen, comfortable bed, huge walk-in shower, two TVs and comfy sitting room with an electric fireplace. The delicious baked goods and breakfast makings were a bonus.

Mornings in Kula are chilly but the fireplace soon warmed us up. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful and no roosters to wake us up (unusual for Hawaii)! John and Marsha were wonderful hosts, I would recommend their place to anyone.
