Idyllic Views

  • 5 of 5

Our expectation of solitude at this rental was met. The views and relaxing decks and shoreline occupied much of our stay. We observed eagles, otter, deer and water fowl, in this quiet space.

We certainly appreciated the unique architectural design and interior décor. The spiral staircases were somewhat challenging, but not a deal breaker. The village of Winter Harbor offered pleasant dining choices, and a convenient market. We were pleasantly surprised with the welcome gift from the owner.

Peaceful and beautiful

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay here - 5 adults fit comfortably. A few steps down to the ocean, and a front row seat to the sun setting over the trees across the ocean. Beautiful tide pools. Close to Schoodic and beautiful hikes, a bit farther of a drive to Mount Desert Island, but not too far, and it was nice to have the quiet. The bedrooms and beds were comfortable, view from the upper deck perfect. We watched lobster fishermen haul up their catch from up there. Saw loons and cormorants fly by, and saw two porpoises breach right off the shore. The bathroom is big and the shower is really nice! The only complaint we had was that the windows don't seem to stay open by themselves any more, we had to prop some of them up with pieces of fire wood to get the nice ocean breeze going through the house. But that wasn't enough to subtract from my 5 star rating. Thank you for a comfortable stay.

Loved the property. A bottle of wine and other goodies waited for us as we entered. Great spot, about 45 minutes to Bar Harbor. Wonderful views. Nice cookware. Clean.

Wonderful retreat

  • 5 of 5

My brother and I were looking for a retreat from which we could paint pictures of the Maine coastline. This "Tree House" as we dubbed it filled our every wish. We hope to come back! People with physical difficulties might find the spiral staircase up to the house a bit difficult to maneuver, however, for anyone without such problems, it is lovely, with breathtaking views of the water, lovely grounds and easy access out to the rocks. Privacy galore.

Most amazing house we've ever stayed in!!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! That's how I would sum up this house in one word. It was absolutely amazing. We came up to this area of Maine to explore the coast and visit Acadia National Park. We chose this house on a whim, based off the pictures of how cool it looked and we were not disappointed. As we drove up, we were a little nervous as it gets very desolate and in the evening it looks a little spooky. But the house is truly something magical. You ascend a spiral staircase which was a bit of a challenge for 2 kids and a lot of luggage, but once we were up it was wall to wall ocean and outdoor views. You could even see a lighthouse in the night. The breezes from the ocean and the roar of the waves filled the whole house. The house was comfortable and there were a lot of cute little details that were delightful-like puzzles, Checkers/Chess, old books about Maine and homemade quilts on the beds. We were traveling with 4 and 5 year old children and I wouldn't recommend this house for kids younger than this as the stairs are steep and there was a lot of trouble they could get into if they weren't closely watched or mischievous which ours are not. (Balconies, spiral stair cases, rocks by the ocean.) You can walk down to the ocean rocks and we spent hours there every day. The kids explored the tide pools (their favorite part of the trip) and we had amazing sunset views every night. We saw dolphins, a seal and eagles. At night, after the kids went to bed, we went stargazing on the top balcony and could literally see the Milky Way, shooting stars, and planets.

The garden house we called the Fairy House. It was adorable & a nice bonus space!

We drove to Acadia one day and it really is far. It was close to an hour and 20 minutes with traffic each way. But there's a smaller, quieter side of Acadia - the Schoodic Peninsula- and for our needs, we were able to go hiking there the other 2 days of our stay which was great bc it was much less crowded and just as majestic. I recommend Fisherman's Galley in Winter Harbor for a really good meal (lobster tanks where you can pick your own lobster) as well as A Pickled Wrinkle which felt authentic. We will dream about this house now that we're home. It's for you if you are looking for peace, quiet, relaxing, and self entertaining. It is not for you if you have very young children, can't walk up stairs easily, or are looking to go into town and be entertained. It's QUIET. And wonderful. Thanks so much!
