This very large two story apartment is truly unique. It occupies two floors, with three bedrooms and one bathroom on the second floor and a kitchen, dining room, bathroom and great room on the first floor. The great room is two stories high with an exposed wraparound staircase. The building still retains it's original hardwood maple floors, with the exception of one of the bedrooms, which is carpeted. Both floors have private 4-season porches on the front of the building. The back door leads out onto a beautiful and rather large split level cedar deck. Some off-street parking is available at the rear of the building as well.
There is one master bedroom with a king size bed, cable TV and it's own private 4-season porch. The other two bedrooms are substantially smaller and feature queen size beds.
Both bathrooms have recently been redone and feature some beautiful custom stonework and cabinetry. The kitchen received granite countertops around the same time, and features a full size refrigerator/freezer, gas range, microwave, coffee machine and toaster. It is also equipped with cookware, dishes and utensils. The apartment has it's own laundry machines, which are located off the kitchen. The dining room is immediately adjacent to the kitchen and has a private 4-season porch attached.
The great room is part of what makes this rental so unique. It has a 20 foot ceiling with an open staircase that wraps up to the second floor. It's the living room of the apartment and features comfortable seating with a large flat screen television. It also has a hide-a-bed.
The apartment is equipped with free wireless high speed internet access, cable television and a dedicated heating and air conditioning system with it's own thermostat that the renter has control over.
This rental occupies both floors of the South half of the building, and was originally two apartments, which have been converted into one extra large single unit. Guests have three private doors to the apartment: First and second floor front doors, which lead into a common stairwell shared with the other unit in the building, and a back door, which leads onto the cedar deck.
I have enjoyed living in this location for over 20 years. I'm a life long resident of Minneapolis and look forward to being your host and local guide during your stay here. I have deep connections to the neighborhood and an even deeper knowledge of everything this vibrant area has to offer. Whatever you need, I'm your go-to resource.
Restaurants: Now this could be a truly long list. Minneapolis has in recent years become a destination for culinary explorers. Food & Wine Magazine has just named Minneapolis as "our favorite new food city", and we've received rave reviews for our high quality, creative and diverse food scene from Anthony Bourdain and Time Magazine to name just a couple. The property is situated just two blocks from a section of Nicollet Ave. which has been designated as "Eat Street", where you can find a wide variety of ethnic restaurants, including Thai, Vietnamese, Mexican, German and Malaysian, not to mention Glam Doll Donuts. Other nearby notable restaurants include Ice House, Heyday, Piccolo, La Belle Vie, Butcher and the Boar and the Bachelor Farmer to name but a few. (Like I say, this could be a very long list.) I'm a bit of a food explorer myself and I can make specific recommendations.
The Lakes: We are close to the South Minneapolis chain of lakes, which include Cedar Lake, Lake of the Isles, Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet. Sailboats, canoes, kayaks and paddle boards are available for rental at both Calhoun and Harriet, and there are multiple swimming beaches at Cedar, Calhoun and Harriet. Other boating opportunities are too numerous to mention. This is Minnesota after all. Again, let me be your guide.
Bicycling: Minneapolis is an exceptionally bike-friendly city with many miles of connected bike trails. The Greenway bike trail is located about 3 blocks South of the property and it connects to a huge system of trails. There is a Nice Ride bike rental station just 2 blocks away, and there are also a number of bike renal shops nearby where you can rent other bikes. Being an avid cyclist myself and someone who loves to explore, I can suggest any number of excellent bike rides. Just ask me.
Walking: I've already mentioned the incredible network of bike trails we have here, but there are also many great walks and hikes available in the area – and I know them all. From paved trails around local lakes to more rustic trails in the lush forests of the local river valleys, there are more beautiful trails than you'll ever be able to cover in one visit. I do a lot of walking on these trails and am intimately familiar with them.
Museums: We're just blocks away from two major art museums – The Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and there are also many other small art galleries and shops in the area.
Theater: Minneapolis is a well known hotbed of theatrical innovation. The world famous Guthrie Theater is located downtown and many other smaller theaters are scatter throughout the area, including the Jungle Theater, which is just a few blocks away.
Movie Theaters: In addition to the usual mainstream movie theaters you'd expect to find in any city, we also have a large number of art house theaters, including two that are only blocks away in Uptown.
Music: Live music is also big here with numerous local venues highlighting our rich local music scene as well as national touring acts. I have close connections with the local music community and can provide you with recommendations.
Winter Sports: Hey, it's Minnesota. We've got it all when it comes to fun outdoor Winter experiences. Cross country skiing is popular on the South Minneapolis chain of lakes, and as you move out of the downtown area, options for snowboarding, downhill skiing and snowmobiling abound.
(I could go on, but you get the idea. This is a vibrant thriving community with a lot to do and see.)
