About the property

Family Compound w Romantic Efficiency Cottage For Two

If the dates you are looking for aren't available at Jaquish Lane, please check out my other two properties that make up The Gills Group.

VRBO Property # 318909 (The Gills) which sleeps 6 and VRBO Property # 1063519 (The Red House) which sleeps 4. The Gills Group cottages can be rented together to accommodate parties of all sizes.

Perched on a stretch of rocky Maine coast, Jaquish Lane is a fully renovated oceanfront compound with stunning views of the sea from nearly every room. The property is well off the main road, and offers total privacy. Jaquish Lane consists of two separate structures (Jaquish House and #14) connected by an open grassy lawn.

JAQUISH HOUSE is a large, luxurious family home with a massive master suite and sweeping ocean views. (The house sleeps 10 with 1 King bed, 1 Queen, 1 Full and 2 Bunkbeds

“NUMBER 14” is a gem-like efficiency cottage for two (1 Queen) from the early 1900’s - when there was little else on the island.

Enjoy naps on the porch or walk to nearby beaches, restaurants and shops. Explore tidepools along the water’s edge or take advantage of the world class striper fishing from the rocks . Eat lobster freshly pulled from the sea by local lobstermen. Go sailing to nearby Eagle Island or kayak the miles of peaceful Harpswell coastline. Curl up in front of the fireplace with a book and a glass of wine.

Whatever you choose to do, it all comes back to the view. Crashing waves or perfect calm – the sea is a constant and ever changing presence at both Jaquish House and Number 14. Sit back and watch the ocean change with the weather. Hour by hour. Minute by minute. Always different. Always beautiful.

Jaquish Lane is a place to gather, surrounded by friends and family. A place for sharing meals and stories and remembering how wonderful it feels to truly let yourself slow down.

Both JAQUISH HOUSE and NUMBER 14 were completely renovated in early 2015. The chefs kitchen features all new appliances as well as high efficiency washer and dryer. Bedrooms all have brand new mattresses and are furnished with luxury bedding and linens. JAQUISH HOUSE features one King sized Master suite with en suite bathroom featuring an oceanfront jacuzzi soaking tub. One Queen bedroom with ocean views, one Full bedroom with 48" television and blu ray player, and one "bunk room" with 4 twin beds. Free wifi - high speed internet throughout. NUMBER 14 has one Queen bed, an ensuite bathroom with clawfoot tub and tiled shower, and a kitchenette with sink, stovetop, microwave and fridge.

NUMBER 14 is available from May 1st to November 1st.

Jaquish Lane is perfectly set up to host small weddings, family reunions, or other special gatherings, and can be rented with the property next door - The Gills (vrbo 318909) which sleeps an additional 6 and The Red House (vrbo 1063510) which sleeps 4.

Depending on the size and type of gathering there are additional fees for all events. Please inquire to learn more.

25 minutes from Brunswick and Bowdoin College. 30 minutes from Freeport and L.L.Bean. 45 minutes from Portland.

We are deeply in love with the beauty and vibe of coastal Maine...its incredibly peaceful and so special. And then somehow this home, its decor, and its location still managed to blow us away. We are very picky and hard to please...but Carter just gets it. Everything in his home is cozy and luxurious yet also authentic and natural. We wanted a slow week with our two young children and this was the perfect vacation for that. We hiked, saw seals, combed the beach for shells, took photographs, ate our weight in lobster, shopped for souvenirs + artwork, took a boat tour, read books, and cooked. Bailey island is so unique and its hard to explain, just go. Carter's home truly accentuates the Maine lifestyle and you can tell he truly loves this place. The giant bathtub overlooking the sea was heaven, the fully stocked kitchen was delightful, his library of Maine-based literature was clever, and the multiple outdoor lounging/dining areas was picture-perfect. I have many recommendations as to what to do on Bailey Island, too many to fit here. But mainly do this: have breakfast at The Driftwood Inn, walk down to Land's End for fun shopping, hike the Devil's back trail to see seals (Orr's Island), take the noon boat ride from Cook's Lobster house, sit on the deck at Jaquish Lane with a glass of wine and just relax. It rarely gets better than this. Thank you Carter!

The only thing we didn't like was leaving.

  • 5 of 5

We (with permission) had a very small wedding at the house on the deck overlooking the water. It was brief and perfect. You would think we planned the weather. It rained in the morning, but stopped early, the sun came out to to dry the world off and three was nothing but blue skies come ceremony and picture time. The house is even more beautiful and charming than it is in the pictures. It has many modern amenities while holding on to enough cabin charm to keep it cozy. No TV on the main floor and no dishwasher created the same collaborative family vibe I had on vacations as a kid. David (the point of contact) was on point, responsive and helpful. We had fun playing board games on the giant coffee table by the fireplace. I could go on forever about the views, the rocky shore, nearby hikes, etc. My suggestion is just book it, you'll be happy. I know we'll be back.

Stunning home and view!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of nine absolutely loved every minute of their time at this home! The layout is family-friendly for all ages. As well, the decor is reflective of the natural beauty around it! The property manager checked in with us a couple of times to ensure all was well; we felt tended to. Most likely this was our best family vacation ever; thank you!

Magic at Jacquish!

  • 5 of 5

I am still completely swept away by my trip to Bailey Island and my stay at Carter's incredible property, Jaquish. It was the most incredible location filled with the spirit of the island. It's rock cliffs and water views were completely mesmerizing. Jacquish proved the most beautiful setting for an incredibly peaceful retreat. Every inch of the property is so delicately and sensitively conceived, built and decorated with Carter's vision and brilliant and unique aesthetic. I have never felt so relaxed and in love with my surroundings. No detail was spared. There was a never ending stream of discoveries within the space and I truly felt lucky to be a guest uncovering a home so truly loved by it's owner.

Bailey Island proved to be quite special. Between delicious meals at Cooks, hiking at Devil's back, sitting outside Lands End to watch the sun set, enjoying David's delicious fresh lobster or drives between Harpswell and Bailey discovering outdoor quilt shopping, veggetable and cheese stores- there is tons to do on this magical island. I can't reccomend this property enough. It has my heart and cannot wait to return next summer. Thank you Carter and David for allowing me to visit and making the stay so special!

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

Just completed a week at Jaquish Lane with 4 friends and totally enjoyed every aspect of our stay. We found this gem last year and made plans then to come back. The corner view from the living room is amazing and watching the sunrise from the Master bedroom is indescribable. Cottage 14 has a unique charm and coziness (although we could never get the gas fireplace to work) and is perfect for a couple. We enjoyed evenings in front of the fire as the sun set. This place has all the luxury, charm and amenities you could want. We've already booked our stay for next year!

What a beautiful house! We hosted our wedding here & it was perfect

  • 5 of 5

We love Jacquish house! All the details of the house are as perfect as the pictures. We hosted our small wedding (36 people) at the house & it was just perfect. The ceremony was down on the lawn just behind the deck overlooking the ocean. We did an informal buffet dinner with tall cocktail tables set up all around the deck, which is plenty of space. The caterers used the kitchen & set up the buffet on the kitchen table with plenty of space. It's all around a great place for an informal event. Dave, the property manager, was very accommodating giving us recommendations on local contacts, letting us visit the house to take measurements & plan before our stay. We couldn't be happier with our special week at Bailey Island and the beautiful memories we made on our wedding day. Thank you Carter & Dave!
