Space 1,200 sq ft
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 1 - 2 nights

About the property

3 bedrooms 1 bathroom with Views and Convenient Location

Beautiful views from a three bedroom family home, with full kitchen, living room, and laundry facilities. The close-to-town, convenient location adds to the benefit of this accommodation.

We renovated this older home to retain its original charms, but also to satisfy our modern tastes and expectations. The result is quaint, bright, and utterly charming with enchanting views of Kachemak Bay, the Kenai Mountains and the Homer Spit. Every window at the front of the house - living room, kitchen, and laundry (!) offer the remarkable views we love so much in Homer.

About Kit & Phyllis Barnett

I was born and raised in Homer, my husband, Kit is from Scotland. While I have never moved away from Homer, I have done considerable travel. Kit and I have chosen (in my case re-chosen) Homer for our own love of hiking, fishing, camping, and boating.

We worked in Bush Alaska during the school year, I was a high school English teacher, Kit has worked as a VPSO (Village Public Safety Officer), alcohol distribution agent, and school bus driver, then Maintenance & Operations for the school. We are now living in Homer full time and loving it!

Kit & Phyllis Barnett purchased this apartment in 1987

Why Kit & Phyllis Barnett chose Homer

It was the views of Kachemak Bay and the snow capped mountains, the abundant natural light, the close proximity to town and the feeling of home I got from the house. I know the Banks' family that build the house, and it felt so right for me and my son. Then, when Kit joined me in this life adventure, he brought his own skills to bear on the property. It has been his carpentry skill that remodeled this house and his love of gardening that has transformed the grounds (always evolving!).

What makes this apartment unique

It is the flower gardens are what will catch you eye as you drive up the driveway. The showy Sitka Roses cover the bushes in July. Wild blue geraniums, Alaskan irises, blooming abundantly are accented by the vibrant Oriental poppy. Delphinium and pansies (the Great Dane and the Chihuahua of the garden) mingle and vie for attention. It is all a glorious blast of color in our short summer. Most of these beauties were on the property others have been given to us by friends and family (the Columbine and Chives came from my mother).

Then, when you turn around to look out at the view . . . the light peaking through the clouds to play on the calm morning waters of Kachemak Bay or the evening light bathing the mountains in shades of pink. Every time of day has it's own charms. Cloudy days create moods with the light and dark alternating over the water. Breath taking, exhilarating, calming and serene, on different days at different times.

We plant a small vegetable garden on the property which we gladly make available to our guests. If you are eating in, make use of the kale, swiss chard, arrugula, a variety of lettuces, and this year a new addition, asian greens - they are beautiful! Pick lower leaves first and the plants will continue to provide all summer. Later in the fall there will be a few potatoes. Just help yourself, you can't miss it as we have tied orange surveyors tape "ribbons" all around hoping to keep the moose out.

Amazing Rental

  • 5 of 5

This little cottage perched on the hill is perfect for a getaway with friends. This rental is just right for a crafting weekend. We love the layout and the well equipped kitchen. The location is perfect for a quick dinner out or morning coffee. We wish we could stay longer. We'll definitely be back in the future.

Classic charm

  • 5 of 5

This house was so cute! Very clean, beds just swallow you up in comfort! I am a lover of good linens and this rental delivered! Towels fresh, soft and in good supply! Sheets and bedding top notch quality. Furnished with a simple style that is reflective of the town and surroundings. The views are breathtaking!

Only suggestion would be more kitchen items, mixing-serving bowls, a couple extra knives and s few spices in the cupboard for those who cook.

The driveway was a bit slippery even with AWD and 4 wheel drive due an unexpected overnight snow!

Thank you for sharing this lovely house with our party. We were very comfortable.

Awesome Home!

  • 5 of 5

Needed a place to stay in or near Homer for 4 nights over the 4th of July week for a fishing trip. Kit & Phyllis's place was absolutely perfect! Spotless, comfortable in EVERY way you can imagine. (Beds,Kitchen, Living Room& really quite close to the Spit (just a few minutes). The view was something you want to capture and take home with you! Nice and private. We had a moose cow & calf in the yard to boot! Phyllis was so easy to work with! We told everyone we fished with what wonderful lodging we had. Look for us to be back!
