Picturesque Colonial Cape

Bedrooms 2
Space 125 m²
Property type house
Minimum Stay 4 nights

About the property

Down a quiet country road, not far from Route 1 but set back from the bustle of summer traffic, a traditional cape style home awaits your vacationing family. This home, one of the oldest on Schoodic Peninsula, has been recently remodeled with an upgraded kitchen, two beautiful bathrooms, washer/dryer, and comfortable sleeping quarters for 4. The addition of a sleeper sofa affords an extra guest or two. The original post and beam construction, built in the 1700's, contrasts beautifully with the skylights, Oriental rugs, and local art gracing the walls.

The neighboring organic farm offers fresh vegetables, eggs and meats, as well as the opportunity to roam its splendid grounds and meet the farmyard animals. Further down the road is Jones Pond, a gorgeous location for swimming or kayaking. Just a few short miles to the Atlantic Ocean and the breathtaking coastal loop road at Acadia National Park, visitors can enjoy picnicking, hiking on any of the trails, sunning on the massive rocky shoreline, and capturing numerous opportunities for photography and sketching.

Visit Grindstone Golf Course in nearby Winter Harbor for dazzling scenery while you practice your game, or meander through the galleries and shops in the quaint fishing village of Winter Harbor. Several excellent lunch and dinner opportunities are available in the surrounding village restaurants, and of course lobsters can be purchased right from the boats at the nearby lobster pound. Or take the ferry to Bar Harbor, Maine's most famous tourist destination. Whatever you choose to do while vacationing on Schoodic Peninsula, returning to your beautiful vacation home will always be a pleasure and a comfort.

We totally enjoyed our stay. The light filled rooms were wonderful during the day when we chose to stay in. We slept well and enjoyed the amenities. Thank you Christine.

a sweet home with a history

  • 5 of 5

This is quiet, renovated home off the beaten path but with easy access to Bar Harbor, Winter Harbor, Acadia National Park and artist studios. An organic farm with fresh produce and a potter both are easy walks from the house. It was a great place for the 4 of us, all mature adults. If you are looking for a good place to stay in this area I would highly recommend this home.

Great quiet location and cozy, comfortable home!

  • 4 of 5

Very comfortable home with charm and character. It was on a quiet little street and was perfect for the four of us. We usually cooked one to two meals a day there and found the kitchen furnishings (i.e. knives, cookie sheets, measuring cups & spoons) to be a bit limited, but it still worked out fine. We really enjoyed our stay!

Colonial Cape

  • 3 of 5

We had a good time at our home away from home! It was nicely furnished and stocked with nearly everything you'd need if you have to cook. We were disappointed that it wasn't clean when we arrived - moldy grounds in the coffee pot that former renter should have cleaned out, sink and floor hadn't been cleaned very well either.

It was a quiet place to stay which was great. We had to turn up the heat and were quite happy that the furnace worked well once the maintenance man came (within a very short time of calling) and got it going:)

It is a great place to stay if you have a family as the upstairs has two single beds. Fun to see the old beams that were used in the remodel.

Very friendly host to work with over the phone and internet.

Short drive to the ocean.

Maine is beautiful and Home Away is the way to go!
