About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1.5 Bath, Sleeps 8

Fantastic place for a family get away or weekend with friends on Mirror Lake in the White Mountains. This 3 bedroom home boasts a large kitchen, separate dining room, inviting living room, game room, 1 & 1/2 bathrooms, screened-in porch, game room and farmer's porch. It is conveniently located on a main road, nestled between the two lovely town centers of Lancaster and Whitefield.

It is a great place to visit throughout every season. Go hiking or picnic at nearby Weeks Forest in the fall and enjoy the colors of the gorgeous New Hampshire leaves. In the winter, go skiing, snowboarding, or snow mobiling at one of the nearby ski resorts, visit Santa at Santa's Village, or simply snuggle up by the living room fireplace. In the spring, enjoy the tranquility of the lake, relax by an evening fire by the properties' fire pit or read your favorite book while relaxing in the hammock. In the summer, enjoy swimming, kayaking, or fishing on Mirror Lake, visit a local farmer's market, or maybe catch a show at the Weathervane Theatre located located less than a mile from the home.

The home shares 2.65 acres of land with friendly neighbors on Mirror Lake. The shared land includes a dock, picnic area, firepit, and adirondack chairs overlooking the lake. 3 single person kayaks, tubes, rafts, life jackets and lawn games are readily available for guest use. The home is situated close to the road and it is about a minute walk down an incline to the water's edge. The house has great lake access. The best lake views are from the adirondack chairs located next the fire pit. The screened-in porch, bedroom #1, and upstairs bathroom also offer lake views (see picture # 15 for view).

All three bedrooms and the full bathroom are located on the second story. All of the bedrooms have updated and high quality linens. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed and an adjoining bathroom. It also has a T.V./DVD/VCR player. DVDS/VHS tapes available for use (mostly children's DVDS). The recently renovated bathroom has a separate clawfoot tub and stand-up shower. Bedroom 2 has a full sized bed as well as a twin bed. Bedroom 3 has twin bunk beds as well as a separate twin bed (with toy drawers below the bed). The 1/2 bathroom houses the washer & dryer. It is located on the first floor and is off of the expansive kitchen.

The living room has a great conversation area as well as a fireplace, rocking chair, T.V. (streaming T.V. includes Netflix, Hulu, an app that streams the major networks-not NH affiliates, as well as cable channels like ESPN, Bravo, TNT, U.S.A. etc... Pandora, additional internet channels, & games.)

The game room includes a video arcade game (includes Frogger, Ms. Pacman, & Donkey Kong) as well as a 10 in 1 game table (includes foosball, air hockey, pool, ping pong etc..). The charming dining room includes a beautiful table, antique rug, a rustic chandelier, and 5 matching chairs (additional chairs maybe found throughout the house). The private screened-in porch includes a conversation area with 4 red adirondack chairs and dining table & chairs. The screened-in porch makes a perfect place to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an evening glass of wine while enjoying the view. (As the weather gets colder, we recommend grabbing a blanket from the living room and curling up with your morning coffee)

This is a family-friendly and dog-friendly home. It is a picturesque place to make new memories with your family and friends.

*If you are looking for a summer weekend rental or a smaller place in the same location, we have the place for you! We recently acquired and renovated a one bedroom unit on the same lakefront property with a great lake view from the expansive screened-in porch. VRBO # 1111528

FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. Is the map on VRBO accurate?

answer: Not entirely. The house is on the same side of the road as the lake and Mirror Lake is closer to the house than it appears on the map. It is less than a minute walk from the house to the edge of the water. Mirror Lake is a fresh water lake in the White Mountains. Please note that while we are on the lake, we are also on a main road and you will likely hear road noise while staying at the house.

2. Can we swim, kayak, or fish in the lake?

answer: yes, yes, & yes!

3. Is the house lake front?

answer: The house is on lake front property. The walk to the lake is pictured in the photos and depending on your walking pace takes less than a minute. While there is easy access to the lake, the lake view from the house is hindered a little by trees(picture #15 shows the view).

4. What do you mean by shared property?

answer: Our single family house is part of the Lakeside Condominium Association. It sits on 2.65 acres which is shared with 9 smaller cabins. There is land in back (Hammock area) and to the side of the house that only we tend to use. It is the best of both worlds. You have total privacy in the house and immediate area around the house and you often meet some great people (or have playmates for children) when you want to be more social.

5. With other cabins on the property, will we have privacy?

Absolutely, the house has space around it that provides privacy.

7. Are there other children on the property?

Usually there are other children there. Our children enjoy playing in the water with the other children, making smores by the bonfire, or playing a game of kickball.

8. During ski/snowmobiling season, who is responsible for snow removal?

We have someone who plows the driveway if there is more than a few inches of snow. We have shovels and salt available to clear paths. It is the responsibility of guests to remove snow & ice from pathways.

9. Is there a place to store winter gear?

Yes, guests may store their gear in the unfinished addition.

10. Is there a coffee maker? Yes there is a traditional 12 cup coffee maker. We try to keep coffee filters in stock and we recommend that you bring your favorite coffee with you. There are also several local businesses nearby where you can grab a coffee.

About Heather

I grew up in a small MA town that bordered New Hampshire. There were no stores or restaurants within walking or even biking distance from my home. There was however, a piggery behind my house and a farm at the top of my street and around the corner. I spent much of my childhood playing outside and exploring the woods. I went to college in Boston and fell in love with the city (& my husband)! After finishing school and living in Hawaii for a few years, we returned back to the city where we met. We live in Boston with our two daughters and our dog, Bruno. We both teach within Boston Public Schools. We enjoy spending time with our girls, traveling, kayaking, jogging, enthusiastically cheering on our New England sports teams, and getting away to the lake whenever possible.

Heather purchased this house in 2015

Why Heather chose Whitefield

We love this house! We love the age of it, the charm, the quirks, our neighbors, the land, making smores by the fire, and the lake access. Traveling to MirrorLake House takes less than 3 hours from our home in Boston and it is really close to hiking and lots of fun attractions like Santa's Village.

What makes this house unique

We have a private setting and there are wonderful, friendly neighbors nearby. It is ideal, we get our quiet time and there are often playmates ready to explore the lake with our girls. If you are traveling with extended family or friends, we also have a smaller unit (one bedroom with living room, kitchen, bathroom, and screened-in porch) available to rent. It is a minute walk across the property.

Another great stay at MirrorLake House!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year in a row staying at MirrorLake House for our annual trip north to Santa's Village to kick off the Christmas season and it was another absolutely perfect stay! Can't say enough about this fabulous house! Heather is such a pleasure to work with, and her and her family make sure you have everything you need to have a comfortable stay. They literally have everything you could need or want and then some - including the new addition - an incredible arcade game system!! I've never seen anything like it! We (adult children) played for hours - was a blast! This house is so clean, comfortable and inviting - you truly feel like you are in your own home. There were even lots of new things since our last trip - brand new washer and dryer and new shower. They take pride in this great house and it shows. The lake it is on is beautiful and so peaceful. Some day hoping to get up there during the summer to enjoy the lake in warmer weather! Location is great - about 15 minutes to Santa's Village. We ventured to Liitleton this trip too (maybe 20 mins away) which is a great little New England town and I highly recommend a visit there too! Oh and don't miss Santas Village at Christmas - it's magical and really puts you in the Christmas mood! So very happy that this fabulous house has become a holiday tradition for our family!!! Stay here - you will love it too! Thank you again!!!

Wonderful location for a family

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the Mirrorlake House; it is clear the home is designed for family use. Kayaks, tubes, and water toys were provided as well as foosball and an arcade table. Games like monopoly and life were there for a chance rainy day. Netflix was provided and internet speed was very fast. Up the road less than a mile is dollar general for any supplies you need, as well as a Redbox. Tvs were a bit small to our liking, but you don't vacation in New Hampshire to watch tv.

The biggest surprise was the noise level from traffic. The white noise machines help, but the occasional truck woke me up a few nights. We kept the windows open since it was warm and the house doesn't have air conditioning. (It's a old, beautiful, farm house). Washer and dryer was provided which is great for families, especially those flying in and limited on luggage. I went to dollar general to get some cheap foam earplugs which solved that problem completely.

So much to do in the local area; perfect location! Within an hour is storyland, kancamangus highway, fraconia notch, the flume, basin, mount Washington. There is a cute state park 5 minutes from the house, with a free watch tower that gives you unparalleled views. Santas village was 15 minutes away. Make sure you keep the screen doors locked if you have a toddler to keep them from wandering near the highway... the screen door locks work very well. Oh, the fire pit and adirondack chairs, we loved it and I took a nice nap on the provided hammock, listening to the leaves rustle. Biggest downside was the 3 pounds I gained from the nightly smores.

Overall, a wonderful stay. Heather was very attentive to our needs. Recommend you bring foam airplugs if you are light sleeper, but you will not find a better value, location, or amenities for your stay in the White Mountains. Thank you Heather.

Comfortable home in a convenient location

  • 5 of 5

The Mirror Lake House is stocked with just about everything a family needs. It is very family friendly, comfortable and in a great location. My kids found so much to do on the property including exploring the grounds, kayaking, lounging on the hammock and lawn games. The adults were able to enjoy themselves on the various porches and adirondack chairs while keeping an eye on the kids. The proximity to hiking, scenic drive, shopping and restaurant options added to the convenience. This is a great place for families to getaway and relax. There was some street noise but not a bother overall. We are used to it at home too. We didn't need to use the provided noise machines. Communication about logistics was excellent. The owners have really thought about how to make this as comfortable a stay as possible. I definitely recommend it.

Charming vacation home that met all of our expectations and more

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I (along with our two dogs, Charlie & Daisy) spent a week at this charming vacation home in beautiful northern New Hampshire. The weather didn't cooperate but that didn't put a damper on the experience. The home is warm and cozy with a beautiful gas fireplace. The game room was great fun. The lake was so peaceful and my husband really enjoyed fishing every morning and night. He caught 9 fish in 2 hours...the last one was a doozie! A 5lb large mouth bass. We went out in the canoe and kayaks in between the rain showers. It was so much fun and we hope to return again next year. A big thank you to our wonderful hosts!

Fantastic Getaway Spot

Cozy house with a lot of character and history set in a great spot for those who love the outdoors. My whole family loved kayaking on Mirror Lake, sitting out on the screen porch in the mornings taking in the surroundings and hiking and exploring the spectacular views of the mountains.
