Come See for Yourself
The property takes your breath away. The cottage and home are unbelievable. The front porch with a porch swing and two rocking chairs, overlooking the Swan Creek. The family of deer that come within 100 feet of you as you sit on that front porch. The property is everything that it looks like, and more!!
The photos in this listing don't really convey the peaceful, wonderfully landscaped setting, or the meticulous and luxurious interior of this home. We stayed in the "main house", an airy, open inviting home with two roomy bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large living-dining space that includes a knock-your-socks-off chandelier over the dining room table and a gigantic, taxidermed rockfish mounted over the fireplace, plus a fantastically equipped kitchen that includes a professional 6-burner stove, with top broiler and two ovens. It's the perfect place for some serious cooking, should anyone be so inclined.
It is a many-windowed house that truly brings the lovely outdoors in, and the screened porch is a perfect spot to sit on a rocker or on the hanging porch swing and read, or just contemplate peacefully. We had regular visits from deer, including a pair of very curious fawns, just about every time we sat out there.
Jim, the owner, met us on our arrival, helped us settle in, gave us careful instructions for the DISH tv which we promptly forgot when he left, and was very kind and good humored about walking us through it all again via telephone from Florida, where he'd gone with his family.
The home is located about a 5-minute drive from the center of Rock Hall, where you'll find food markets, an assortment of restaurants, cafes and small shops, and marinas on practically all sides. There is even a small and charming sand beach, ideal for little children.
We used the house as a base for exploring some of the historic Chesapeake towns and cities not too far away. Beautiful Chestertown in only a 20-minute drive, and Annapolis and St. Michaels made enjoyable day trips. There are opportunities at all these locations, including, of course, Rock Hall, to get out on the water in all manner of craft-- it is, naturally-- unthinkable to visit Chesapeake Country without venturing into the bay.
We highly recommend this home!
Great spot for a family getaway. None of the other properties were rented so we had the entire 'end of the road' feel for our stay. Clean and nice amenities, but the frig will trick you if u r not patient. Grounds are beautifully kept and horse farm next door has evening grazing so it was nice to see the horses right there. Harbor shack in town was friendly spot for a bucket of beer and great local crab etc..My two USMC sons really appreciated the quiet comforts. Enjoyed a heavy rain from the screened porch. Jim and the house info sheet were very helpful, no problems, hope to return !!
My family stayed at the farmhouse recently. Beautiful, quiet, water views. Lovely property. Jim & Diana Thompson very accommodating. Nice place for family reunion. My family enjoyed their stay. Thank you!
We stayed here the week before the 4th and had a great time. We rented both houses with a party of 8 (2 kids). The yards are beautiful and very peaceful... Jim was a great help and very responsive before and during the visit if we had any questions. The town of Rock Hall is very quaint and peaceful.
This is a gorgeous property. We stayed in the main house because we wanted a full kitchen since it was Fathers' Day weekend & the kids & I were planning to bake a cake for my husband. The owners have thought of every comfort to make the house feel truly like a home away from home - even fresh cut flowers from the property! The kitchen is state of the art, the bathrooms are luxurious, and the bedrooms comfortable. I loved the screened in porch & the sound of the wind in the trees & the beautiful landscaping. We enjoyed the nature trail on the 10 acres. The views of Swan Creek are beautiful & add to the peacefulness of the property. But the view from the other side of the house of the horses at the stables is also amazing! The children & I even fed the horses a few carrots! The property is located 5 minutes from Rock Hall so everything you need is close by, but it feels very private & remote. We watched deer from the kitchen window & even saw a turtle in the yard (a favorite animal of mine.) We would absolutely plan another stay at this property & feel very lucky to have found it!
ABOUT ROCK HALL
We welcome you to the Pearl of the Chesapeake!
Settled in 1706, Rock Hall is a charming Chesapeake Bay village with miles of shoreline, public docking and many marinas. Our artistic community is alive and vibrant with constant inspiration from the unspoiled surroundings; musicians come from near and far for our enjoyment. The restaurants offer everything from steamed crabs served waterside to fine dining to take-back-to the boat selections.
Beginning as a small harbor town, Rock Hall has been an important part of the historical fabric of the Eastern Shore. Watermen and their families have worked the bay for generations which has created a wonderful cornerstone for this close, friendly community. In fact, our welcome sign lets people know that ‘Nice people live here!’
We welcome you to navigate our town and find the things that lure you, relax you, and refresh you. Fishing, boating, hunting, birdwatching, biking, hiking, sunning, playing, or just sitting back with your favorite drink – we’ve got it all in Rock Hall.
